wishful thinking?
politically correct bolonga?
naive?
for serious?

“I don’t want people to think we’re not willing to spend,” says Jordan. “I want to spend money for a team that’s going to get us in the top four (in the Eastern Conference), the top three.”

He adds: “We haven’t put ourselves in position to do that yet because of some of the stipulations of our contracts. And now this is the first time we feel like we’re going to have a pretty good summer because we have some flexibility. We want to invest. To get where we have to go, we know we have to.”

for serious, the plan is to sign CP3, then sign Howard.. if Plan A fails, all the alternatives will put us in a better spot then we were in 2 years ago. Cap space is needed to build a winner, and patience is the key, we shouldn't just spend for mediocrity, MJ is saying the right things, even though the fans don't wana hear it.

Here is the supposed Plan A for the Bobcats:
1. Sign Chris Paul or trade DJ Augustine and a few other pieces away except Hendo.
2. Sign Dwight Howard

I understand that this would be great, but I do not want to panic if this is not what happens. I think if CP3 wants to play for Charlotte we should go after him sometime between after playoffs and draft. I do not like the scenario of us waiting and hoping in the end that we sign him which leads to us signing Howard.

Some back up plans that would not be bad.....
For the Center position: Sign Deandre Jordan or trade for Kaman. or trade for Robin Lopez. Sign Greg Oden. Resign Kwame. or Draft a Center.

For PF: Do nothing. Trade Boris. Trade TT in a package deal to get something better.

For SF: Draft a SF. Sign Jeff Green.

I would not mind trying to see what Philly would want for Evan Turner. I think he would be a nice combo guard off the bench and he could play in a three guard lineup with Hendo and DJ. I would offer Philly Diaw and our first round pick for Turner and their first round pick.

I do not think this back up plan would be bad even if you only got Jeff Green or Deandre Jordan.

Our Lineup would be:
Starters: DJ-Hendo-Jack-TT-Jordan
Bench: Livo-Turner-Green-White-?

Then we would still have 2 picks between 16-20 range most likely. You could take a SF to back up Green once Jack is gone and then possibly Biyombo if he falls, Jordan Williams, Jajuan Johnson, Jeremy Tyler or Tristian Thompson.

I don't recall the Hornets being a big-time FA destination when they were here. Like I said, I think the biggest acquisitions in Charlotte NBA history were David Wesley / Bobby Phills. I remember them courting Horace Grant, but he went to Orlando.

As for his comments, (1) he'd say it regardless and (2) I wouldn't be surprised if he believes it. He probably does think, "I'm Michael Jordan, everyone wants to play for me." But that certainly hasn't been proven thus far. Once players get here, they may think it's a cool bonus to have Jordan around, but I haven't seen anyone come here specifically for him.

ham is right, although you can add derrick coleman (who was coming of a 17 and 9.9 season) to the list. coleman, phills and wesley were the biggest names to sign with charlotte. thats not saying much. they went hard after danny manning as well and the deal to bring him to charlotte was all pretty much done. they were going to trade gill to LA for manning and manning was going to sign an extension to stay in charlotte. at the last second he changed his mind the deal died and he ended up signing with the suns and gill was traded to seattle instead. like paul, the hornets always thought they had the inside track with manning since he was from north carolina. in the end, it didnt help.

most of the success the hornets had can be traced back to them winning the lottery 3 times (#1 larry johnson, #2 alonzo mourning, #3 baron davis). they landed alonzo and baron with slim odds. larry and alonzo directly and indirectly led to glen rice, anthony mason, eddie jones, jamal mashburn, pj brown (credit to the genius bob bass)

    Heres the facts:
Both CP3 and Howard are FA after next season so both the Hornets and Magic will try to trade them before the 2012 trade deadline to get something in return.

The pending off season Player/Owners agreement will dictate what they can be paid Max.

The Bobcats have no 2012 1st round draft pick and not alot to trade other than DJA, TT, JAX,Boris
DJA/TT/Boris for CP 3 could be a possiblity if He wants to come to this market. The only large market I see going after him is NYK, LAL or Dallas. The others already have point guards.

I don't see Howard coming here even if CP3 is already signed here. He wants a ring. Chicago Noah /Dang/1st and LAL Gasol/Odom /1st are his most logical stops or NJN if Williams stays and Lopez/Outlaw/1st is traded.

Our best bet is to rebuild resigning DJA, Trade Jax/Liv to Dallas fo Kidd/2012 1st, /Cash
Draft T-Jones 2011 number 9 so he and Cunningham can replace GW
Resign Kuwamee and trade White to Houston with 2011 pick 20 for Houston 23 pick/Terrance Williams
Then select with 23 the best young center left on the board. Nicola Vucevic or Keith Benson?
Frees up alot of cash with Kidds expiring in 2012,gives us extra cash to sign DJA, Cunningham, and Kuwamee in 2011, Young Team simliar to OKC and also a 2012 pick. Make 2012 playoffs

This is a worse team then we have now.

I don't know. Chicago is going to be over the cap no matter what the new agreement looks like, and Deng + a 1st for Dwight Howard is a Joke. The bulls are good enough now to pass on killing their chemestry by trading Noah or Booze which is what aquiring Dwight would take. Gasol and Bynum would be interesting if one wasn't 32 and the other one of the most injury prone players in the league. New Jersey is garbage. Dwight is not going there.

Yup, most of the time the draft is what leads to success. Once you draft a player the odds are in your favor that if that guy becomes a superstar you will keep him no matter what city the team plays in. I think people put too much into the city sometimes. With the way the current cap setup works, the alternative route to building a winner is to do something like what the Heat have done. But it's risky, remember this has been done before (T-Mac + Grant Hill). If it doesn't work out, you might have to wait a LONG time before you can rebuild.

I know it's been beaten to death, but we had the chance to acquire Paul for cheap and passed on it. He would've played here, we would've had way more success, and he would probably spend his whole career in Charlotte. If he would have played here under those circumstances, why wouldn't he sign here if the money is right and we're willing to build talent around him?

I'll give Jordan some credit, he is adamant about not being content with the 7th/8th seed and I can appreciate that. There's a lot of owners who can care less where their team ends up as long as payroll stays low. I just wish Jordan had better people around him to help maximize their assets to get the best talent. I'm worried about what we'll do in this draft and I think if they were smart they would ditch Higgins and get an assistant from San Antonio in here to be the next GM.

The Hornets had their most success through the draft, because they kept hitting paydirt year after year. Larry, Zo, Kendall, and Scott Burell would have dominated the nba had Larry's back held up and they stayed together.

First the Bobcats were not targeting Paul when they contemplated trading up. The deal was supposed to have been with Atlanta, so that the cats could take Marvin Williams. I don't know where the Paul talk came from. Second there was no way of knowing before the draft that Paul was going to be that much better than Felton. Third the mistake was not that we did not give up both picks for Paul. The mistake was that we picked Sean May with the second pick. We should have walked away from that draft with Felton and Grainger.

Give Higgins some credit. Dude turned a pathetically underweight draft pick into Jason Ricardson, and two over the hill role players into Captain Jack. True everyone wishes that we had snatched up Brooke Lopez the other year, but DJ hasn't exactly been a throw back either. Especially since Felton defected DJ is looking like the right choice.

Overall I like his approach. We can't foolishly spend money on overrated players just to say we are willing to spend. Jordan is trying to build a contending team. This takes patience and a little luck in the draft. Also takes money, which is why clearing cap space makes all the sense in the world. 1 key player could open the flood gates. I hope the CP3 thing happens, though I wouldn't be crushed if it doesn't.

:D  Hornets want alot for CP3
This might get it done at draft time.
DJ,TT, Diop and 9th pick 2011 draft for CP3, and AAron Gray
We draft Chris Singleton at 19 6'8' 210 GW type SF and Darius Morris at 39 6'4"190 pg/sg
CP3,Liv,Temple
Hendo,Morris,Carroll
Jax,Singelton, Cunningham
Diaw,DJ White, Najera
Kuwamee,Gray, Dmac

Gets us to the playoffs and we still have Diaws expiring contract we can use later to trade in 2012 if Cunningham or White works out at the 4
Should win 45 with this team 6-8 seed 2012 playoffs

Aaron Gray? Anyway we could sneak Ariza or Benelli in that trade, and sign our own center? lol
