Opinions on Tyrus Thomas

What are the general feelings on Tyrus Thomas among Bobcats fans?
Is he a definite keeper? So much so that PF is not an option with the 9th pick?
Would you prefer to trade him?
How do you feel about his contract?
How do you feel his future looks?
I appreciate the shared opinions.

Surely a keeper. Maybe on bad contract, was injured ab it this year, but locked on long contract providing hustle from the bench and some minutes as 5 right now with Diaw at PF in the starting lineup. I guess the feeling is he can still become more than he is and that'll show what he really is or isn't. Plus health could be a factor. I don't think you would find many supporters of trading Tyrus away on this board. At least for now. Diaw being often very frustrating is making Tyrus bandwagon populated too.
Draftwise is not that much about Tyrus. There is Diaw, Thomas, DJ White and Najera under contract as PFs for the upcoming season. in addition Cunnigham is bit of a SF/PF tweener. Quite a logjam already, thus those are helping at center spot where we are really thin having only Kwame healthy after trade deadline and having only Gana Diop under contract for the next season (stil injured anyway) although Kwame should be back. Important factor is that Diaw is an expiring which makes him a tradeable asset no matter how he plays next year.
So definitely PF is far from a need, quite the exact opposite but I wouldn't say we would oputright pass on a PF especially if that player would be able to play multiple positions i.e. either forward tweener of PF/C.
Check draft board consensus result threads for better insight what this board thinks about BPsA (Bobcats needs weighted in).

next years is do or die time for tyrus. he MUST take that starting pf spot from diaw. there are no more excuses for him.
if he cant get healthy, then i fear he is injury prone.
if he doesnt improve, then he never will.
if he cant stay out of foul trouble, then he will never start.
my gut tells me that he wont be getting any better and that at this point in his career he simply is who he is. and right now he is simply nothing more than a high energy guy off the bench who can provide some defensive highlight, mid-range jumper, lots of fouls and some ridiculous turnovers. on his new contract that is a biter pill to swallow.

I really like TT. Even with his bad contract. He is my favorite Bobcat right now, but I would trade him in a package for a difference maker.

my shred of hope lies in the fact that tyrus was seemingly hurt all season, even before the knee problem he was having injury problems under LB that was keeping his minutes down (maybe?).
he has to find some consistency in order to give us 30 minutes a night.

Same with DJA. It's do or die time for both of those kids next season IMO.

Yep, feel the same way about TT. Put up or shut up time for TT. I REALLY REALLY hope it's the opposite though, because that contract is killer if he doesn't show any improvement next season, or at least the ability to stay on the floor and not wake up to find that he's injured himself while sleeping?
Higgins number is up too.

Yes. The only PF I see being drafted at #9 would have to be a godsend on offense to be drafted.
Would you prefer to trade him?
I don't think I would, he likes it here and I like the young nucleus we have forming with him, DJ, and Hender.
How do you feel about his contract?
It sucks but that's today's NBA for yah.
How do you feel his future looks?
It could be really bright if he stays healthy. I know that's it's a big if but I have to believe that a full training camp under Paul Silas will reap big dividends. We had an injury plagued Chandler and gave up on him and you can see he's now having the best year of his career arguably. What I saw of him last year you could tell that the midrange J is really coming along and he's showing more patience with his low post offense. However, you could tell that he didn't have the usual pep in his step he used to due to injuries and/or time off.
It really is a make or break year for him I think.

I was actually a big fan of Tyrus and was quite happy when they made the trade for him. After seeing him play here though, and the fact they gave him a pretty huge contract without much proof he will be worth it is definitely concerning. They essentially invested their money in Tyrus instead of Felton at the time and so far it has not made the Bobcats better and we took a step back this season. I know they've wanted an impact PF since expansion and are hoping Tyrus can be that guy.
I'm starting to think he's a much better fit for a more talented team where he can come in off the bench and provide energy with rebounding/blocking. Relying on a guy like that to be your primary post player is most likely a failure.
If I were GM, I would shop him around for a lottery pick while he's still got some potential. Or simply see if another team would be willing to swap him for an expiring deal if they feel all they're missing is a guy like that off the bench to make them a strong contender.

Tyrus is a talented energy player who tries to do more than he is capable of (offensively) and that helps to create the tease relative to potential. But...T2 just never gets close to reaching the consistency needed to become a force. I agree he's talented and a tremendous athlete, but we still need a true POWER forward who can command the post and provide some rangy shooting and defense. I also prefer to deal Diaw BUT I'd be open to trading Tyrus for the right situation.

Tyrus just has that plays whcih make you a big fan. He plays with heart. You just wait till he becomes consistent in what he is doing excusing some subpar games with bit fully healed injuries and hoping that all is not just a tease. It's like that from the begining.

As I told my fellow Bull fans when TT was a Bull:
Tyrus is an athlete who plays basketball. He is not a natural basketball player.
However, he is far from being a bust. He does contribute but he is inconsistent.

Tyrus Thomas will be a bust, I still regret the Bulls trading LaMarcus Aldridge for him on draft night.

I really feel that Tyrus gets a bad rap. I think the real problem is that everyone including Tyrus expects superstar performance from him when he is not a superstar. What he is a very gifted player capable of hints of superstar play. I think that when he matures a little his play will stablize into something we will be glad we held on to. My preference is to keep Tee, and trade Boris. I expect that his nine million dollar expiring will net us some nice peices next winter. Another reason why I do not want to give up the nine this year for a late pick next year.

I don't care about his musical attempts at all.

pretty sad when we are still waiting on a player going into his 7th season to "mature".
maybe tyrus wont really hit his peak until his physical tools start to slow him down and he starts to approach the game using his experience and brain. he could lose 5% of his athletic ability and still have plenty.

That's what I'm saying... he is what he is at this point. He's a little pricey but worth it to the right team. If we had the other pieces needed to contend, having him come off our bench would be huge. But I think we want him to be a star quality starting PF and he'll probably not ever be that. I think they should ship Diaw off ASAP and let us give TT the chance to see what he's made of at least though.
