Boris Diaw

This guy is one of the true enigmas on our team. One game he looks awesome the next game you forget that he is even on the floor. What do you guys think our plans for him should be? Do we let him expire? Do we resign him? Is he a deadline deal waiting to happen? If so what can we get for him? What say you? (Lord of the Rings Return of the King reference )

i think at this point we simply let him expire and use his cap space. any trade we make at the deadline would involve us taking back salary which might impede any tiny tiny chance we have a luring a free agent here. i guess if we could get a future late 1st and take back a crap player on a similar expiring deal that would be ideal.

something tells me diaw will again beat out tyrus for the starting gig.

I think you need Diaw in the second unit because he's the 2nd best PG on the team.

I hope LB would want him in Minny to start over Love :)

SWEET!!
If LB gets there we should consider how to reunite 2 of his fav's for some seriously good return:

Diaw and DJ for Love and a veteran backup PG not named Calderon

The Love Machine on this new squad would be awesome, especially with BiBo, Kemba and our hot shot SF rookie to come in next year's draft!

Doesn't he hate DJ?

Yeah I thought that DJ didn't come up to Larry's high pointguard standards.

Oh and Bassman if the Wolves are dumb enough to trade Love for Diaw you take the janitor back if they insist.

I think DJ would rather retire from basketball than play for LB once again

He may escape to Europe. With his luck he would play in France and LB would catch him there later bvia his ties with French NT.

Diaw/DJA to NY for Billups?

Billups in to mentor Kemba.

No thanks man. I'd rather let Diaw expire. Plus Billups would help us win too many games while taking time away from our youth (not to mention removing one youth completely).

^updated by adding Bill Walker in and making them take Najera's contract. Walker good size young 23 yo 6'6" cheap backup for Hendo.

Diaw/DJA/Najera to NY for Billups/Walker?

Would do with an added protected first or unprotected second from New York.

Edit:

Would do that deal. Walker adds depth at SG and we remove the logjam at PF.

It's just that I don't think Losing DJ for Billups (the two best players in the trade, obviously the focus) will help us at all. And I don't think they want to give up Billups. Walker's not bad though. Maybe we could do a deal not involving either DJ or Billups, but I don't see anything standing out to me. I also don't think they need Diaw as much, Stoudamire is probably tired of him from Phoenix.

Yay! If he can do that to Canada's starters, he shouldn't be much worse against Toronto's bench!

how bout Diaw/DJA to Clips for Kaman/Bledsoe?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=3hlfr3f

breakup jam at PF; don't need to sign Kwame if gets pricey; Bledsoe the kind of long term backup pt for Kemba that Thunder/Spurs would pick up; DJA not going to want to lose PG1 spot to Kemba; would make us worse short term with 2 yg pt guards.

I'd do it, but I'm pretty sure the Clips like Bledsoe so I don't know if they'd do it. Diaw doesn't have a spot there unless you expect him to play SF? The difficult thing about possibly trading DJ is that there just aren't many teams who need a good young PG right now.

ATL--Teague... BOS--Rondo... CHI--Rose... CLE--Kyrie... DET--Knight... IND--Collison... MIL--Jennings... NJN--Deron... PHI--Jrue... TOR--Bayless... WAS--Wall... DAL--Barea... DEN--Lawson... GSW--Steph... HOU--Lowry/Dragic... MEM--Conley... MIN--Rubio... NOH--Paul... OKC--Westbrook... POR--Felts... SAC--Tyreke/Jimmer

That leaves 8 teams.

Heat? They say no if they like Chalmers.
Knicks? They say no if they like Douglas.
Clippers? They say no if they like Bledsoe.
Phoenix? They say no if they like Brooks.

That leaves 4 teams.

1. Magic? They have Arenas, Duhon, and Jameer. That's a ton of money invested in the PG slot and I don't know if they can justify paying another.
2. Lakers? Blake and Fisher suck, yes. DJ would fit nicely next to Kobe, yes. But they have absolutely nothing we'd like other than maybe Goudelock, and he's not worth DJ.
3. Spurs? If they want Neal to be their PG of the future then I don't see a deal. If not then they're a possibility. They have a couple of nice young pieces I like and would target in Kawhi and Splitter
4. Jazz? They have Devin, but I don't see him being there past his contract so they could use a nice young PG. They're supposed to be shopping one of Jefferson/Millsap, so there's a possibility considering both are relatively young (26). Other than those two, Burks and Hayward are obvious targets but I doubt DJ has that much value.

I've always liked deals involving DJ and Al Jefferson, but now that we have Bismack I'm not so eager to do that until we see what he is capable of.

And out of this list:
ATL--Teague... BOS--Rondo... CHI--Rose... CLE--Kyrie... DET--Knight... IND--Collison... MIL--Jennings... NJN--Deron... PHI--Jrue... TOR--Bayless... WAS--Wall... DAL--Barea... DEN--Lawson... GSW--Steph... HOU--Lowry/Dragic... MEM--Conley... MIN--Rubio... NOH--Paul... OKC--Westbrook... POR--Felts... SAC--Tyreke/Jimmer

I think DJ is better than Collison, Jennings (Jennings kinda fell off after a good looking start), Barea, Jrue, Lowry/Dragic, and Felton on a good day. More upside than Felton that much is for sure.

Collison kind of fell off too after filling in for CP3. Didn't really do much at Indiana. 13 and 5 ast with 2.5 turnovers (so an A/T ratio of just 2). Dj had his 14.4 and 6.1 with only 1.9 turnovers so an A/T ratio of over 3. To be honest though I could see good arguments in favor of either player's upside and current skills.

It's true though. DJ is an asset, and a good one, but this league is saturated in part due to the last two drafts. Some of these youngsters will flop though, so DJ will be more valuable.
