In honor of the new 2k12 "legends" I thought it would be fun to do a scavenger hunt that was limited to retired players. Sign up now for this HALL OF FAME edition of the draft.

Same rules as last time, just different player pool and different categories.

The rules/criteria
- You have to fill out all the roster spots by selecting one player for each category.
- You can fill the categories in any order you wish.
- You must tell which category your selection is for at the time of the selection.
- No player can be selected by two different teams.
- Player selected must be retired, either didn't play in 2010-11 in NBA or any other league or officially announced retirement ala Shaq.
- Players selected are assumed to be in their prime, not the old washed-up version from late in their careers or the raw version from their rookie season.
- There is no "do not draft list"

Draft
- Done via message board. Dont sign up if you dont plan to visit the board several times per day.
- Serpentine draft, except round 3 will be reversed to give the guys picking last a little bonus.
i.e. 1st round: 1>10, 2nd round: 10>1, 3rd round 10>1, 4th round, 1>10, 5th round 10>1, 6th round 1>10 etc...
- There is a time limit on picks. Each person gets 6 hours to make their pick. Hours only count between 8AM and 1AM EST. (example if it becomes your pick at 10PM then you have until 11AM to make your pick). If time expires and you have not made your pick, the next person can go ahead and make their pick. The person who was skipped can make their pick at any time after.
- People who go several days w/out making their pick will either have their team given to someone else or their team will simply be shut down.

Winner
- After the draft each team will vote for the team that they think has the best chance at winning a league comprised of the our teams. Tie breaker will go to team with most 1st place votes, then 2nd place votes. If still tied, tie-breaker will go to team that has my favorite players ;).
- You cant vote for your own team.
- You get 3 votes (first, second, third). first is worth 3pts, second is worth 2pts, third is worth 1pt. most points wins.

Source
- Use basketball-reference.com as the source for your city data, such as college, city of birth. This site also has search for uniform numbers under the "frivolities" section and you can find career leaders for minutes here as well.

Just wondering how serious I need to get in making my championship lists.

A couple of these categories are tough though. The executive one, in particular, is hard to find guys for other than the obvious big name ones. It's been tough to find those assistants/special assistants of the world.

I might also suggest expanding the cats to 15. I know the fear of bogging down is there, but the Scavenger Hunt did go by rather quickly.

i'd be cool with 15 rounds. i had to trim some good cats to get down to 12. anyone have a problem with 15?

if not i'll come up with a few more.

some ideas for the last 3 categories (assuming we go to 15 players)

1. triple double - players with a certain number of triple doubles
2. homegrown - NC/SC
3. journeyman - played for a certain number of teams
4. high draft pick - selected in top 5
5. nickname - has an established nickname (i love this category, but feel it would be very blurry to define established nicknames)
6. early entry - came out of college early
7. knucklehead - the return of a fave, player been arrested
8. way old school - played in the 50s
9. international - born outside US
10. dunks and 3s - participated in all-star weekend dunk contest or 3pt shootout.

thoughts?

The first two are ones I had in mind, but I also like the journeyman, olympic roster, and international.

And Fred, if you can only participate part time, I'd be glad to let you be a part owner of the championship squad. I'm sure there are going to be a couple of times my picks will take longer than usual as I'll be busy in class, so having a partner in another hemisphere would be a luxury.

(only if it's allowed, of course)

Sign me up. For some reason there were internal server issues and I couldn't even see the forums for the last few days. What happened?
