2011/12 NCAA Prospect & Game Thread
I would love to see us get the number one pick and take Anthony Davis. Then I would like to make a deal for another lottery pick like we did this summer, and take Quincy Miller. This kid reminds me of a little bit slower version of another pretty good high school player. His name was Kobe somthing or other.
Kemba
Hendo
Quincy
Anthony
Bismack
I would try that line up for a few years to see what they could do.

Anthony Davis would be a luxury on this team that we don't need. Miller though, I agree with. Or Barnes would be pretty good.

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?
Without seeing many of them play yet how could we know?
We will need a wing who can score by creating his own offense and draining the long ball. We will also need a big who can score in the post.
Using that criteria, Barnes, Miller, Sullinger and Drummond all sound like possibilities.
But again, it's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early to know.

it's not like we are going to win 30 games. We currently have Corey Maggette as our leading scorer. How does that sound to you

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?
Big fan of:
Harrison Barnes--SF, UNC (Perfect fit for our team. Great attitude, gym rat, smooth scorer, and plenty of size)
Andre Drummond--PF/C, UConn (Would be a fantastic fit next to Biyombo. Tons of athleticism and defensive potential)
Brad Beal--SG, Florida (pure scorer/shooter that shows a willingness to play defense)
Fan of:
John Jenkins--SG, Vanderbilt (Super smooth scorer that will make a ton of noise next year. One of my favorite players in the college game, really reminds me of a taller Steph Curry)
Jeff Taylor--SF, Vanderbilt (Super athletic wing that has seen his stock rise with the development of his jumper. Will be a lotto pick)
Terrence Jones--SF/PF, Kentucky (Plenty of size to play SF and PF in a pinch. Can really be a complete and dominant player if he works on his right hand)
Stay away from:
Anthony Davis
Jared Sullinger
Perry Jones
Quincy Miller
Austin Rivers

You keep talking like that and Maggette is going to lead us to 40 wins.

From the high school and Duke games I've seen, I really can't say I'm a fan. He's of average height for a SG and doesn't have a frame that looks to stand up to a beating.
Sure he's athletic and exciting, but he makes far too many dumb decisions with the ball and doesn't play team ball at all. He takes dumb shots, hounds the ball, and pouts when his teammates don't pass it to him. He's a classic me-first guy.
Or to put it simply, I just don't see anything about him that puts him above Brad Beal in my eyes.

Apart from the athletic part, switch out "Duke" with "Davidson" and that reminds me a lot of Steph Curry when he was at school.

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?
The main difference between the two, other than athleticism, is feel for the game and holes in their game.
When you watched Steph you went, "Damn, this dude is super smooth and smart."
When you watch Austin you go, "Damn, this dude is quick, but boy is a bonehead."
He's certainly a great talent who will put up some big numbers, and will definitely be an NBA player. But, he's going to be a difficult player to build around

I'd be cool with Barnes or Drummond. But it's to early tell what kind of work the Tank Commander can do for us.

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?
I like what Draft Express says about Michael Gilchrist (6'7" SF Kentucky) . . .
"He starts playing defense as soon as the opposing squad inbounds the ball, getting up in his matchup's chest, attempting to deny him the entry pass, while also maintaining the presence of mind to be ready to help out his teammates if needed. He's phenomenal on the ball, active and intense, yet fundamentally sound, smothering with his length, and extremely physical.
He's just as good off the ball, though, with his anticipation skills in the passing lanes, and ability to rotate as a help-side defender. Showing big, strong hands, and the willingness to make his presence felt on the glass, Gilchrist is an excellent rebounder who will go well out of his area for extra possessions.
Constantly talking, directing, leading by example--whether on the court or standing up cheering from the bench—Gilchrist looks like exactly the type of player you'd want to have on your team.
Offensively, Gilchrist was extremely aggressive, making a couple of shots both with his feet set and off the dribble from the perimeter, and doing a good job posting up his man. His advanced ball-handling skills remain improvable and his shooting mechanics are still not ideal, but his ability to bring the ball up the court, beat his man off the dribble and find the open man with pinpoint accuracy allows him to play multiple positions on the floor. He's always looking to set up his teammates, but has no problem asserting himself and taking a big shot himself if the situation calls for it."

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?
When Gilchrist steps on the floor for the first times, he'll already be one of the best defenders in the college game. The problem with him is that he's a very mediocre offensive player and we desperately need guys that can score the ball.
We have Hendo for a wing defender right now and Biyombo/Tyrus for the post. Who do we have to score? Kemba?

True Cats mentality - the season hasn't even started yet, however we're already looking forward to tanking and the next draft.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'll be watching the games hoping we win, and watching the season knowing we likely won't. I probably won't think about draft stock until January at the soonest. I feel like this thread is more about next year's draft prospects than it is about tanking. We could pick some of these guys well after the top three.

I don't think that's the case here at all.
Some people, like myself, are jut huge fans of college basketball and like to talk about prospects and how they can potentially affect our team.

Re: Next Year's Draft: Who are we hoping to get?

What I would like to get- a top 3 pick. Yeah, right! That'll be the day! If there is no NBA season, our chances of getting a prime pick for this coming draft will disappoint Bobcats fans. Not that the pick will be bad, mind you, but the potential greats won't be calling Charlotte home. So, we get a pick in our "normal" range, which is somewhere between 9 and 11. All I can say is, I hope Cho can work his magic again and turn that 9 to 11 sow's ear into a 1 to 3 crown-- because as I see it, that'll be the only way we get the TALENT we need. (Insert Harrison Barnes' name here.)
Our best option is to wait and see how well our luck will look (assuming of course that labor negotiations are treated with seriousness on BOTH sides) once we see where we will draft. We should get a good pick. And if something is done to give the lottery boys an extra pick where it will do some good (read that somewhere, but forgot where)... things might just be looking up for us eventually.
I think that the League and the Union getting a new system in place will get me to dream about who I'd like to get. Until then, I'll keep my stats and dream!
Claw on Cats Fans!
In loving memory of Barbara Hickman Taylor 07/20/1955-11/27/2010. Rest in Peace Sweet Lady!

OK Swedd, why do you want to stay away from these guys? Especially the firt two. Have you not seen the way these two completely dominate on offense?

Not at all what I was intending with this thread. I started this thread, because of my excitement about this said to be super draft class.
