Tyrus Thomas and amnesty

I'm tired of debating CBA/BRI so....
What are some thoughts on using the proposed amnesty clause on Tyrus?
I know he is way more productive than Gana and the remainder of his contract would be a big bitter pill to swallow but, in looking at the long term cap situation, we are not is position to spend or attract any quality free agents for the next 2 seasons, so cutting Gana with amnesty, really doesn't net us any value from a long term planning perspective. However, cutting TT will mean that for the 2013/14season our only contracts on the books would be Gerald Hendersons 4 million dollar qualifying offer and the rookies deals of Kemba, Bismack, and next years rookie pick. We would have a young nucleus and as much cap room as anybody else in the league.
Again, I know that Tyrus is way more productive than Gana but, I think the long term cap benefits could outweigh the on the floor benefits.
Thoughts?

I understand your angle, but considering we gave up a 1st rounder for Tyrus and he is still young with considerable upside I don't think it would be wise to pull the chute on him yet.

There is a cap floor too you know. I don't want us forced to sign a bunch of floppy retards to fill out the books.

Hell no!! Tyrus got a lot of upside & his deal is bad but not horrible.
I'd rather his 14/8 than just cutting him.

Well, it depends on when this should be decided. If we get Drummond, it would be a right thing to do.

Analysis: The Bobcats' roster is teeming with players making too much dough. Question is: Which one should Michael Jordan cast aside?
Diop made nearly $6.5 million last season, played 13 games and averaged 1.3 points and 2.5 rebounds, resulting in a player efficiency rating of just 5.4. With two more seasons totaling $14.2 million left on the books -- and with Diop having never posted a PER higher than 12.4 in his nine seasons -- Jordan surely won't be able to resist shedding that contract. There will be calls to oust Carroll, Diaw and Maggette, too, but Diop is one of the easier calls on the board.

Davis' hometown Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks, sources say, are the two teams he's always dreamed of playing for.
Davis also still has a good relationship with the Charlotte community, Bobcats coach Paul Silas and Bobcats assistant coach Stephen Silas, all of which would likewise make the Bobcats an option if Michael Jordan is interested.
Honestly, I'd probably do it. I'd be so happy if Kemba could give us the same kind of production Baron did in his time here.

I agree. Paul has experience with Baron and I'm sure he would be on his best behavior. Besides, he's an actual mentor for Kemba. DJ isn't going to mentor him because DJ wants to keep his job just as Felton probably didn't do much for DJ when he was here.
Diop will get the cut. The only people that will miss him are the tailors that get free advertisement for their suits.

At first I was confused about why we might amnesty Diaw but I thought of one plausible reason, and that simply being trading/signing once lockout is over. We might want to take a decent sized contract and need cap space to do it. Otherwise we'd just wait for him to expire.

Well, that's the point. We have no room for Baron. I want to keep DJ.

I don't think we'll amnesty anyone. I was under the impression that an amnestied player doesn't receive his full contract payment but I was wrong, as it's only reduced 75% as a cap hit. Seems like more of a concession to the big market teams that are way over the cap than something that helps us.
And since we're far enough under the cap to not need the space, we'd be better off getting something for Diop than just paying him the same amount to go somewhere else. We have a long enough window to where we can amnesty Diop or Tyrus later on if we need that extra cap space. It doesn't serve a purpose for us now.
