Players to Watch this Year (around the league)

Post#1 » by penquin11 » Thu Dec 8, 2011 2:55 pm

There are always several players that have unforseen breakout seasons around the NBA who do you guys think will have a "breakout season" this year?

Here are some guys Im looking for to show out (non rookies)

Evan Turner: It would be hard for him not to improve vastly on his previos years #'s.
Tyrus Thomas: Eventually he will figure at least part of the puzzle out, and with Silas in year 2 of coaching it could be this year.
Reggie Williams
DeAndre Jordan
Greg Monroe
Jordan Crawford
Shaun Livingston
Patrick Peterson
TWill
Derrick Favors
Jarret Jack
Eric Maynor

Those are just some of the Guys I could see really having good seasons this year

I say that with Brandon Roy leaving Portland, Wesley Matthews emerges and has another season of improvement, goes from 15 points per game to about 20.

Alot of it depends on opportunity. I still think Terrence Williams has great potential to be a very good player but if he spends another season buried on Houston's bench, it wont happen. He needs a change on venue.

BTW, fantastic job on the '94 Shawn Bradley vs. Shaq time capsule video from a few mos ago Lamar. I just stumbled accross it a couple days ago and really enjoyed, Shawn never gets his due from the younger gen who only know him from his last 2-3 years on Dallas' bench.

I'd take a 23 yo Bradley for our starting 5 today over 85% of the other centers in the league.

No-one has, actually if Im correct their GM has expressed that they will NOT use the amnesty on him. By the way does anyone here think that there is a small chance that Roy could possibly become the player he used to be despite his injury?/ Some how overcome the injury or is that just the hidden NBA fan within me rooting for a player who looked like he was going to be really good early on in his career?

If only he himself would have actually liked basketball and getting better during the off-season, the general NBA audience would remember him as the guy who blocked all possible poster dunks, instead of getting dunked on all the time (even though it isn't completely true). Thanks for the comment.

I thought that it is a sure thing, although it seems like I have missed out on the fact that he won't get amnestied.

I have a feeling we've seen DeAndre Jordan's ceiling already.

I am very curious to see how the JJ Hickson and DeMarcus Cousins combo works out in Sacto, that's a lot of beef.

Brandon Roy has announced retirement, so I guess this could indeed be the year for Wesley Matthews.

What about rookies? Apart from our duo, VeselĂ˝ excites me the most, no matter how many minutes he plays he is bound to produce some highlights from seeing the lane and finishing alley-oops. Wizards are light, quick and young. They may not be good but may be actually fun to watch if they can handle Blatche.

You don't have any sort of bias, in saying Vesely, do you?

I have :D but you can't blame me, we don't produce those often. Last time a Czech was in NBA it was Welsch...that training warrior on Celtics, you won't remember him... We then have two guards, one of them could make it into first round, the other may not be drafted at all and it will be a nuclear winter of talent for some time again.

But really I wanted two players from this draft him and Biyombo. As Kemba is not too shabby pick either (last tiome I checked he was winning a pres-season ROY poll on nba.com), I am more than content how things went in June. If we couldn't get VeselĂ˝ (I wouldn't pass on Bismack for him I guess), he at least got into a situation where he is a good fit.

Williams screams Beasley 2.0, Valanciunas is yet to come, I'm not unarmored with Kanter who nobody could have seen playing for some time. The top picks are not so sure bets and some later picks will be pretty good based on when picked, e.g. Faried will get a lot of burn on that shorthanded Denver team, even if they would keep Nene.

Jiri Zidek and his famous hook shot deserves a shout out as well.

Yup, that was the first one, then Welsch and now VeselĂ˝ is only third Czech ever in NBA. We succeed more in old style basketball when no dunks etc. were around. Not a major sport here as well.

(sorry for an off topic step)

Welsch was the man when he played for my team Olimpija.

But back to the topic if doc picks Vesely. I pick Goran Dragic. If Paul trade goes through and he goes to NOH with Jeret Jack as his only competition, watch out. He just needs playing time to show what he learned from Nash and Lakovic (on NT he is one of the top all time euroleague scorers). He's got the speed, quickness and hoops to excell in the NBA and the NO situation would be perfect for him. I'm picking him up in my fantay team you should to! :D

Gerald Henderson
Marcus Thornton
Wesley Matthews
OJ Mayo

I really feel it's going to be the year of the two guard.
