Assuming he passes his physical today he will be ready to practice in the second session today. He is a big body who can play minutes at Center this isn't much, but it will probably help out more then you would think.

No word yet on the contract.

The man is old... does he have anything left in him, to Start for that matter?

I assume this will be a min. 1 yr. Well at least Diaw doesn't have to worry about gaining weight now.

i hope it is just because Bismack is not cleared yet and if Ely gets contract it would one year and hopefully not fully guaranteed to let Bismack take his spot later once his Spanish adventures come to an end.

Well, if it's a 1 year minimum deal then who can complain? He's a big body who is familiar with Charlotte. He will provide minutes at C and aide our tanking efforts I guess. Welcome aboard Ely.

If you guys didn't already know how popular a free agent destination Charlotte is then now you know.

His NBA career highlight probably was getting in an altercation with Kobe.

BTW, did anybody know that he used to be so slim??

This is even more ridiculous than Diaw's weight gain.

Makes me nervous that we're going to try and be better than we actually are/need to be.

I refuse to accept this news. This is a bad dream. I will wake up and there will be no Ely on the team. I would sooner crap my britches.

Horrible horrible decision by management. Terrible. Just can't understand it.

He saw Kwame get paid and now he's trying the same.

I like the move. I might order a Melvin Ely jersey and hang it on my wall.

Depending on the contract, I don't mind the move at all.

I wonder if Super Mareo is available? Primoz? Linton Johnson?

Ryan Hollins a free agent? According to Higgins, he would make a great training partner for Diaw.
