"No No No, Don't Shoot" - The Byron Mullens Thread

Bobcats acquired Mullens from OKC along with Cash considerations for a second round pick.
Mullens is a 7 footer who will come off the bench. Looks like Boris should stop eating because he is playing less and less center this morning.
He did not play in last nights game so this deal must of already been in the works.

Bobcats have traded for C Byron Mullens. Gave up a second round pick in 2013.

It is a second round pick in 2013. Mullens is scheduled to make 1.3 million this year and 2.25 next season

BOOM!!
At least he has some upside I guess? Wasn't a fan of his 1 season at OSU but he's a big body at least.
Oh, and I am sorry Fats..........

Dang, didn't realize he was 2.25 next year. I guess that's not terrible if he produces anything at all. Probably has the potential to be a decent big man off the bench. If that is what he becomes next year, then he is worth 2.25.

Decent center. Anyone think Jordan would hire BJ Armstrong to be an assistant.

I really like this trade. Mullens was a highly rated prospect coming out of high school. At 7'0 & 275lbs, he's very servicable. On top of that it only costed us a 2nd rounder.
Mullens > Fesenko

A 2nd in 2013 is fine with me. Kid still has some potential. Good job Cho. Getting some cash also to help pay some of his salary. Smart.

He was a big time recruit out of high school and played pretty well in his one year at OSU. He shouldn't have come out after his first year though because he didn't have enough time to develop.
We've done well with the last big who never got playing time out of OKC, so hopefully this one will go well as well. I just see a bit too much Robert Swift in him for me to hopeful. At the worst though, he's a big body. We pretty much have our front line shored up now.

It's not bad for the value. Works out for both teams.

At least we have another real center on the team now. Maybe he can be this year's Kwame Brown.

Mullens > Fesenko
Mullens has yet to show that he's anything other than a big stiff.
That said, he's 22 yo, has legit center size, has a good pedigree and as you mention, only cost us a second round pick.
I would have gone for Fesenko or a Kosta Koufas (both of whom I think are far more talented offensively) but for a 2013 second rounder, I'm fine with this and anxious to see what Mullens can do.
If he shows some promise, we can pick up his option and keep him around next year. If not, we'll show him the door and be no worse for having test driven him.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/72402 ... io-inmates"With two armed guards by his side, Byron Mullens walks with several friends toward the inner perimeter fence, the two feet of barbed wire curls running along the top glistening in the sunlight.
They have already handed over their cell phones and keys, gone through a metal detector, signed in the log book and walked through a series of locked doors that won't open until the previous one is shut. Now Mullens and crew must go through another round of security, pausing as they get to the gate and holding up a badge....."
Interesting read.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if BJ starts at least initially. I can't imagine Diaw playing center minutes or even TT for extended amounts of time.
