I just came across this on interbasket and didn't see it posted here. If it is, my apologies and mods feel free to delete. Apparently his mom is from England so he got a British passport and will be joining Luol Deng and Ben Gordon in playing for Great Britain in London this summer. Thought that was pretty cool.

He tweeted he was going, I didn't realise he was actually playing.

He needs to go hang out with Lennox Lewis while he is over there and learn how to take some severe contact. Watching him begin to post up 5 feet from the basket and end up near halfcourt once the possession is over is painful to watch.

Great Britain must be in dire straights when Luol Deng has to approach Byron freakin' Mullens about playing for your national team.

Is that a rhetorical statement? England is known for basketball like they are flavorful food. That being said a top three of Deng, Gordon and Mulley will be pretty decent offensively.

That's nothing. They ran add in newspapers recruiting people to play for their handball team in olympics where they qualified as hosts (but they had no national team when London won its bid). True story.

When we are at it, per wiki Mokeski is assistant coach there. That's another Bobcats connection.
Good for Byron, I guess he wouldn't be thrilled to join them for competition like Eurobasket but Olympic games are special event and this year is probably his only chance to be part of that. Good for him.
BTW, will Brits have Pops Mensah-Bonsu again?

Mullens should try out for that team too. Might be soft enough for him to handle.

I think the Aussie handball team in 2000 was pretty similiar. Thats when I found out that you qualify for all sports when you host the Olympics, no matter if you played them or not. Handball isn't played in Australia at all, so they had to grab some random athletes.

Well, one thing handball could benefit him would be toughen him up. I am no expert in handball but the defense tend to be very physical (especially for centers disrupting defensive line) and kind of a heck fest. Either way I don't think the game would suit him as height doesn't matter as much (although it helps) and agile players with finesse tend to succeed (and then there are goalies which is mostly reflexes and mental strength I guess). The game is big in Germany, their bundesliga is kind of what nba is for basketball. This guy is 6'7'' and one of the best of his position to get you a better idea:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... Om0#t=256sSachmo: I think it depends on the sport, FIBA wanted GBR to be competitive first and voted on their participation in London 2012. I guess it was easier for Britain to make a completely new handball team through newspaper adds in advance (first games of national team in 2008 after decades of hiatus) as most of new players started playing professionally and play in leagues in continental Europe - on the contrary i doubt there are any leagues in reasonable distance from Australia.
However back to basketball.

does this mean he has less time to actually work on his game in the offseason??
He could do with some work

You don't think that playing against some of the best teams in the world is "working on his game in the off season?"

I do agree about his lack of tone, or muscles. His body looks like a boiled chicken.
