OFF Season Thoughts to get better for 2012-2013

Its looking more and more like we aare going to get 25% of the ping pong balls and probably at worse a top 3 draft pick. Davis is the concensous #1 on all 2012 mock drafts. At 220 6'10" he is a power forward.
If we get the #1(or 2 or 3) pick I think we could do better trading it with DJA and TT to Portland for their 2 early first round picks 6 and 11 ,Batum and sign/trade on Felton who become FA July 1.
Then Sign Spencer Hawes or Jason Thompson with Diaws salary as our starting Center. :D :o
KW Felton
Hendo Rwill Carroll
Batum Mags UPS
DJW Henson TJones
Hawes,Biz ,Mully, Diop
Solid players at all positions ......10-11 in rotation.

I think we'll end up with the 4th pick in the worst case scenario. Portland is building around Batum and Aldridge. I'll stop rooting for the Cats if Felton's fat ass is brought back. Spencer Hawes or Jason Thompson are okay players but they'd only make us marginally better, just good enough to likely disrupt our tanking efforts next year.

I want to see them:

Draft Anthony Davis (or BPA b/w Robinson, Beal, Drummond, Lamb, Barnes, etc)

NOT resign DJ White or Higgins. (Brown and Najera are fine if still cheap)

amnesty Tyrus if he doesn't improve dramatically (is there a deadline for using the amnesty?)

Turn Maggette, Reggie Williams, Diop, and Carroll and their expiring contracts into picks.

Tank like hell again and continue to add talent around DJA (if resigned), Kemba, Henderson, Bismack, and 2011-2012 draft picks.

?????

Profit.

I really hope we can get the #1 Pick Anthony Davis if not we should target Andre Drummond. I would like to see the Bobcats to sign Antawn Jamison, he played for North Carolina and wants to end his career in Charlotte. He could be cheap for us. Andre Miller should be a target as well, he is a good PG, hopefully not expensive and can be a mentor for walker. Maybe we can trade DJ Augustin for a Top 15 pick so that we can add a Sg or Sf like Austin Rivers or Jeremy Lamb. Tyrus Thomas is a problem i mean he is still 25 years young and can improve but i dont know if he is worth 8 mio a year, maybe use amnesty. Just keep Maggette, Diop and Carroll they could have some input next year which is a contract year for them. if not trade them at midseason or release them. Another PG which could be interesting is Ish Smith a Charlotte nativ.

PG K. Walker/A. Miller/I. Smith
SG G. Henderson/A. Rivers/M. Carroll
SF C. Maggette/R. Williams
PF A. Davis/A. Jamison/B. Mullens
C B. Biyombo/T. Thomas/D. Diop

looks not to bad, nice mix between young and old. Jamison, Miller and Maggette are great character guys which cho likes

1. I hope we resign Dja I like him a lot and hope we move forward with him and trade Kemba for a lottery pick. Also hope we resign Derrick Brown
2. I hope we sign Beasley and Terrance Williams
3. I really hope we draft Anthony Davis and get the #1 and with our 2nd take Scott Machado
4. Amnesty Tyrus
5. I hope we aquire another lottery pick to get Drummond. I know if we get Davis and still have Biz but our back up bigs suck and Drummond has been said to be an Amare/Dwight mix. A 3 man rotation of Biz/Davis/Drummond would be sick and sure up our front court for 10-15 years.
6. Turn Maggette/Diop/Carroll expirings into lottery picks.
7. Take on extra salary for unprotected picks in 2013 draft.
8. Hopefully end up with Shabazz Muhammad at the end of the season.
9. Amnesty Tyrus
10. Sign Jamison
Dream 2013-2014 lineup
pg DJ Augustin/Scott Machado
sg Shabazz Muhammad/Terrence Williams
sf Michael Beasley/Derrick Brown
pf Anthony Davis/Antwan Jamison
c Bismack Biyombo/Andre Drummond
Man I hope the basketball Gods make my dream come true

In Cho we trust... to make any moves if necessary

As far as offseason management:

1st priority is to bring in a permanent coach because this team needs leadership

then....

1st half of summer - bring in all the greats to mentor and teach these young players how to play

2nd half of the summer - bring in Usain Bolt after he wins 20 gold medals and run this team like herd of cheetahs

This post is so out there I'm not sure where to start. Why in God's name would we pay someone big $ to be our starting C and Biz is our starting C? Why in the world would we bring in Hawes or Thompson and take away from Biz's minutes? Why on earth would we win the #1 pick and trade Anthony "frickin" Davis?? I'm not sure by these posts but you guys do realize Cho is making the decisions now and not MJ and Daddy Higgins. Also we are not trading Kemba, it is Dja's days that are numbered here. (With the interest we saw or heard of in him at the trade deadline there is no way we are able to sign him long term, about the best we can hope for is he signs his offer sheet and trade him before he expires at the end of next season) I know Tyrus is pretty bad but we can only amnesty him once! Edit: How do you get rid of Hendo and not even explain what we got for him? :dontknow: Also if things go as planned and the lottery doesn't totally screw us over and we get Davis then we would have no need for old azz Jamison.

   :o :o :-? :-? OKC just wavied Ryan Reid to make room for Fisher.
At 6'8' 235 a Rookie from Florida State. Is he worth a look right now as option to TT? Ask Mully.
If he works out trade TT with DJA in offseason NJN,LAL,PHX, Hou, Dal or NOH may have interest depending on where Dwill lands(probably Dallas where hes building home.) If they need DJA bad enough they will take on TT. Absolutely do not amensityTT. Group him and trade him.

This offseason will be about a new coach, lottery success and more trimming of the deadwood. Previous poster is correct; we will make some steps next season but it will be another year of serious rebuilding. The young ones (Kemba, Biz and even Hendo) must come back from this summer with some serious progress added to their games. I could see DJ being back for a year but we cannot make a mistake and overpay for him.

We seriously need the 1st pick to grab the mighty Unibrow. Pairing him with Biz will produce a very unique front line one day. Then, either this offseason or next, we must find a top-flight scorer at either the 2 or the 3. Lastly, I'd love to have an A-Grade point guard who can dish and score. Kemba is more ideally suited to being a 6th man.

We've got another year of really bad basketball in front of us before they're ready to make their move to get back to the playoffs.

Even if the best case scenario plays out and we land the brow and can insert him at the 4, the team will still be lacking in the scoring and playmaking departments.

With the FA market looking pretty anemic (Chandler now re-signed with Denver, Hibbert likely a lock to go back to Indy, I love Batum but he's not a go-to scorer perinial all-star type guy and some team will make the mistake of paying him $10mil a year), we'll probably have to address the above deficiences in the 2013 draft.

I don't understand the signing of veterans. We're going young and we're also trying to get rid of long unwanted contracts so obviously signing veterans doesn't make sense.

The most important thing we should do is obviously a coaching change. If we get the chance to draft Anthony Davis, then obviously we would need a coach that has experience in dealing with defense and raising young big men. I don't want D'Antoni if we have one of the best young defensive front courts in the league because obviously he would know nothing about dealing with that.

I agree with what has been said in posts before. I don´t think we should go to the FA market this summer, overpaying someone like JT or even Batum (though I really like him, I think dmutombo is right about 10M per year as overpayed, because I can´t see him playing more than one All Star during his career). We also have Rick Cho as our GM, and if he follows the same steps he took with Oklahoma City Thunder we will try to improve with smart little moves, good drafting and sucking badly for one/two more years...

So our plan this summer would be something like:

1) Drafting Anthony Davis.
2)Resigning DJ Augustin. I like the guy and I think that having him for six millions per year wouldn´t be a bad deal. But I suppose we will move one of our PGS along with an expiring contract to collect another pick, I hope it´s in the lottery.
3) Using those expiring contracts to land more picks or having a shot at a superstar, but I seriously doubt Cho will take this last way if we end up with Davis.
4) Amnesty on Tyrus and tanking again but with a core of Kemba/DJ-Hendo-Davis-Bimbo and, probably, a top-5 pick next year.

If we get rid of Tyrus, Maggette, Diop, Caroll and Augustin/Kemba and we end up with 4 picks in 2012/2013 drafts I would be really happy.

It's sign, not sing. We will not be singing anything, I hope.

Also, I don't really like any of these ideas. All your free agents are a big no for me.

We're in complete rebuild mode and I'm not expecting us to do things much differently than we did this past offseason (i.e. Reggie Williams / Bryon Mullens type deals).

Having said that, I would like to see some improvement with this team. I don't think it would be good for the franchise to finish in dead last again. With the lottery in place, as long as we're in the bottom five, we'll still have a good chance of landing a top draft pick.

So many things could play out, but here's my plan. If we draft Davis or Robinson, then amnesty Thomas. No reason to keep him around. Bring in Nate McMillan. Try to resign DJ to a reasonable deal (the better the contract, the more trade value he'll have) if not we'll have to bring in someone and if it comes down to it I wouldn't mind signing a vet to a short-term deal. Then fill out the roster with young players on the cheap (not unlike the moves we made last offseason).

I would let DJA walk. Then try to sign George Hill, because I like his toughness and team play, and see him as a good compliment to Kemba at PG, though Hill's restricted so I don't have high hopes we could pry him from IND. If Hill doesn't work out, oh well, save that money to sign Stephen Curry in 2013.

Try to sign Courtney Lee, also a restricted free agent who I doubt we could snag, but who I like as a defender/shooter/team player who would be a great SG tandem with Hendo.

Offer a contract to Ian Mahinmi, an unrestricted FA who would be a decent, inexpensive big alongside AD and Biz.

Resign Derrick Brown.

Hire a medical team/physical fitness guru for Tyrus. He was good before he got hurt last season. WTF happened? Figure it out and get him back.

Talk to Maruice Cheeks about the head coaching job. He's seen the OKC machine work.

If Tyrus can't be figured out, amnestyze him.

Hire Hakeem Olajowan to work with Biz over the summer. Bring back Oakley.

Fire both Higginses.

Get Matt Carroll the head coaching job at UNC-Charlotte.

Perhaps we could commission Stanley Roberts, Oliver Miller or Priest Lauderdale as a consultant to help Tyrus' manage his weight in the right direction.

Eddy Curry's available after the season is up.
