#Bobcats coach Paul Silas has been given no indication from front office whether he'll be back next season. Says he's OK with that (cont.)

Silas, 68, does want to coach here next season "in that I wouldn't want to leave things as they are.''

But why would we want to keep him? :dontknow:

i read that, just seems like typical responses from a coach.

what else was he going to say?

If Cho want's to build a "culture" here, like they apparently have done at OKC and Pops has done at San Antonio they need a coach who will introduce and enforce it.

Its time for Silas to move on and hopefully his son doesnt get the job. Paul was supposed to be the "bridge" between the Larry Brown veteran/playoff team and the youth movement we are in now....its time to let whoever they see as the coach of the future be it McMillan, Van Gundy or some young assistant come in and install his system which hopefully is anything other than the 1-4 offense. This team is obviously built for the future, we are gonna have a top 3 pick, which like it or not is gonna be the face of our franchise just based on where he will be drafted. Let the new coach develop the young core of this team to play his style.

:o   No need to Worry about our coaching staff.. They are all gone.. I do have to say that Paul has been a good coach during his career, but its time to retire. MJ/CHO will bring in an entire new culture and an entire new coaching staff. I'm sure they are just waiting for this disaster of a season to end. Who they select will be monumental to whether "The Plan" survives longterm. We need Davis out of the draft, a FA point like Dragic, FA center Hawes, and Mags or Hendo to put up 25 a night.
No more 12-15 point quarters EVER!

The rebuild really must start next season with a new regime. Teaching and method has to build over time. While we may stink next year I do not believe it will be an intentional tank. Pieces will be added that must be part of the solution, so you've gotta train them up and get the team on the right path toward growth.

Please enjoy retirement Paul, and best wishes to your son and the other assistants on finding a job with another team.

i share the sentiments with those that believe a new coach is needed for next season. paul was great for what he agreed to do last season. he was the perfect coach for that team last year after LB was fired, someone who had respect in the NBA but at the same time would allow the players to play and let the young guys develop.

this year, obviously paul was dealt a crap team to work with, but he accepted the reality and was very professional this season. his attitude is commendable.

that being said, changes need to start happening sooner, rather than later. paul is perfect for a veteran team that knows how to play. he will give the players freedom, while still commanding professionalism. he will also allow younger guys to play without fear of being replaced. however, paul is not a the first coach anyone would think when you want to develop young talent. he isnt much of a teacher and isnt much of an xo's guy and he has always carried a staff that is very light on experience.

i think there are better coaches out there for what we will be trying to do in the upcoming few years, which is to develop talent, teach, install and offense that caters to kemba and our team speed. i dont think we can wait another year to get moving towards these goals. another year with silas will be more of the same in terms of boring offense, bad defense, little growth from the young guys and players seemingly not giving 100% every night.

we dont have to bring in an experienced high profile coach, although that would be nice. obviously there are many coaches who wouldnt even think of coming here now. however, i am sure there are still a bunch of ex-coaches and top assistants, maybe even some college coaches who are itching to get back in the league - even with the understanding that developing the young guys is the top priority.

paul, we thank you. you have been great. now go enjoy some fishing.

i have a feeling there will be lots of coaching talk over the next few months, so i am going to make this a general coaching discussion thread to discuss silas, his son and potential replacements.

I don't think hiring a top level coach next season will do much to change the tanking, the talent level just isn't there yet. But a new coach will help player development, especially in the rooks and sophs as well as instill a better culture at the club.
I'd personally want to see an offense orientated coach come in. If the team is going to stink again next year then there might as well be some good offense to make the games watchable. Plus if Davis does get picked then only the worst coach of all time couldn't make a defensive team with Biz and Davis developing to hold down the middle in the future

I'm leaning towards his son. Even if we hire a good coach this summer, this team will still be so bad next year that all the fans will be calling for his head as well so we'll just be wasting money.

1 of Sam Cassell, Brian Shaw, or Jamahl Mosley...someone young & looking for a start as head coach that may inject some energy into this bunch. I don't want to see no recycled head coach like Nate McMillan or Maurice Cheeks.

I agree. You see teams like Chicago, OKC, and Miami, instead of hiring coaches who been head coaches for 2-3 teams, so far went and hire coaches who are trying to prove themselves. Brian Shaw should be an obvious candidate. Kobe and his teammates were begging the front office to get him the job there.

If Davis is taken first by the cats, what about giving Ewing his first head coaching job? He has been chomping at the bit for a while now and should be great for developing the young bigs.

I like the idea of a fresh head coach, I like Nate McMillan but we need something new.

I like the idea of Bryan Shaw and Sam Cassell but I'd be intrigued by Mike Malone.

Also as I've stated many times I'm down for the stephen silas as HC bandwagon.

somebody mentioned one of San Antonio's assistant coaches. I can't remember the name, but I would love someone from their program, they really know how to build a winning culture and how to adjust to the players you've got.
