Review of 2011 Draft and more.....

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:35 am

First off its nice to be back posting guys....

So..... as soon as I stop posting you guys let us go on a legendary losing streak....smh

Anyways back to business. I was thinking knowing what we know now and after watching the Bobcats and other NBA rookies would you guys draft the same as we did last year?

As in would you still take Bismack and Kemba in same spots or would you draft other players if the picks in the front of them stayed the same?????????

What if you take into account the guys in this years draft.... say for example would you still have taken Biz last year knowing the odds of grabbing Davis? or take Kemba if you knew how Augustin played and could of had Kawhi Leonard for example....

To me the only guys I would consider doing the redo for would be possibly Leonard and Klay Thompson....maybe Shumpert, Brooks, Faried.... what about you guys?

Also, how would a possible change affect what you would do in this years draft or trading possible guys away. Try to avoid the obvious like trade TT for a first rounder or something else unrealistic.

title says 2010, did you mean 2011?

draft do-over i would take klay or faried over kemba. i would still take biz.

but in any draft there is always one or two guys who you would take over your guy. i am still fairly happy with the draft.

I'm still pretty happy with the draft. The only other player I would consider drafting is possibly Klay, he has really started putting some good games together.

I am starting to become a Klay believer since he's been starting but it could be the Warriors system but nonetheless the guy can stroke it. I would still take Kemba at 9. *surprise, surprise* As much of a beast as Faried is it would have been hard to justify drafting another forward after already drafting Biz and still having TT's $$$ stealing azz.

Reggie Williams put up better numbers as a starter in Golden State than Klay Thompson is. Gimme Kemba.

I'm with everyone else and would do the same but I'd seriously consider Kawhi Leonard at nine though I can understand why we didn't want to go after a guy that is Gerald Wallace at best.

Would probably do the same thing again.

Last years draft was pretty pathetic though, so that isn't saying much.

I am very happy with Bismack Biyombo.

I wish we hadn't drafted Kemba. He has been better at defense and rebounding than I expected, and his attitude will help tremendously as we try to climb out of this hole.

BUT I didn't think our biggest need was PG. DJA seemed passable, until we could bring in Steph Curry or someone else later. I just thought Kemba was too small and redundant to DJ. I wanted Leonard or Thompson at the 9 spot, and still wish we had done that.

In hindsight would love to have Faried instead. I even prefer Vucevic or Shumpert - though I don't think they're better players, just better pieces.

Whether you think Kemba is great or not, I also think that drafting him undermined DJA's yr. DJ looked really great when the yr started, but we HAD to start carving out minutes for Kemba. That's what you do when you have a #1 draft pick. DJA started to pout, gave in to ticky tack injuries. I'm not excusing him for doing that, just saying it was a contributor to the terrible season, and to destroying DJ's trade value. Just seemed like we had bigger needs.

All I know is I was watching an NCAA tourney game and an announcer said, MJ loves Kemba's Swag, and I thought . . . guess it doesn't matter who makes the most sense for this roster, I know who the Cats are drafting.

debatable.

klay as a starter 27 games, 18.2ppg, 3.2rpg, 3.0apg
reggie as a starter (rookie season) 10 games, 16.1ppg, 5.6rpg, 3.6apg

klay is taller and a better shooter, reggie is a better rebounder. klay is younger as a rookie (2 years in college vs 4 years for reggie). reggie played in the #1 paced offense, klay is in the #10 paced offense. reggie had a higher PER 16.0 to 14.9.

regardless, reggie had a great rookie season, but obviously it was a fluke (at least based on what we have seen from him this year). just because klay and reggie played the same position as rookies for the warriors doesnt mean that klay's rookie season is a fluke as well.

Do the same deals, get Bismack. Kings were DESPERATE to get Jimmer. I would've leaked a rumor prior to the draft about Jimmer and the Bobcats. Thanked my lucky stars he and Kemba were still on the board, and seen what the Kings were willing to do to switch picks (9 and 10). Even if was just Jason Thompson or Donte Greene and 2nd, it would've been worth it. To be perfectly honest with you, i would've just taken their 2nd. Taken some guy like Chandler Parsons and hung onto Jermemy Tyler or some Best Euro Player Available that I can store overseas. Team was set up to get really young again and I think they missed the bus on some moves.

If nothing else do what they did in the 1st and getting Maggette, but don't sell Tyler to the Warriors. A young big is still a young big and I doubt a half million (or whatever it was) is a better fit for this team.

Its all some crazy scenario, but it might've worked.

I definitely wouldn't take Kemba. Maybe use the 9th in a deal for future picks instead, that draft was weak.

I loved the trade that got us Biz, but at the time, I thought that we should have sold high on DJ Augustin and traded up for a pick around #20. Doing that, I was hoping we'd draft Biz, Kemba, and Faried. Without that trade I was hoping for Biz and Kemba, which was exactly what we got. Looking back, I'd take Biz all over again, but I'd take Faried, Klay, Shump, Kawhi, or Marshon Brooks over Kemba.

We shouldn't have sold Jeremy Tyler. We needed all the center help we could get, yet we sold him. That was stupid.

I was also hoping we'd trade for a 2012 pick, which never happened.

It's hard to review these rookies after a shortened season and barely a offseason for them to acclimated to. So far though, I would not change a thing from the draft. The guy that I really liked the most was Marshon Brooks. I was hoping we could've pull a deal to net a late first round pick to get him. Nonetheless, I'm satisfied with Kemba and Biz. One might be starter-worthy than the other but only time will tell.

Well, I wasn't just speaking of what Reggie did as a rookie. Last season, in nine starts, he averaged 17.7 points (.487/.449/.676), 4.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists (1.0 turnovers).

maybe reggie really was playing at 50% all season due to injuries. is it possible this guy comes back next year and looks like a completely different player?

honestly a good reggie williams would fit my "gunner" role that i mentioned in the team building thread.

Last year, I wouldn't have taken Kemba or Bismack. I'd take Bismack now but would prefer one of my choices last year over Kemba: Charles Jenkins, Cory Joesph, MarShon Brooks, Norris Cole.

Hopefully we'll see the Golden State Reggie Williams next season. That dude was a stud when he was healthy.

No way. The only one of these I actually somewhat agree with is Brooks, and that's a stretch. Jenkins, Cole, and Joseph are always going to be scrubs, nothing more.

I still would have taken Bismack but I'd rather have Kawhi Leonard than Kemba. I'm actually fairly confident that Kemba (and Biz) will have much better 2nd years than a lot of the players from their draft class. I don't think Faried, Thompson, and those other guys are going to get much better (Klay might fool me).

Kawhi would have made this season easier to digest if it meant seeing Maggette, Thomas, and Jamario Moon less.

norris cole has like a 6.5 PER, brooks is garbage, and who is jenkins and joseph.. none of those playes are worth the number 9
