Why Do Opposing Fans Hate The Bobcats So Much?
Spawned form Crunk's talk about our infamy on the GB (and exclude our Bobcats posters that give us a bad name on the GB) - why do opposing fans dislike us so much?
Its obviously not tall poppy syndrome. We haven't been involved in some on court of off court scandal. We don't have any real dislikeable players (although Hendo gets under the skin of opposing players).
So, what gives?
Isn't the general public meant to root for the underdog?

I really don't know. Maybe just because it's cool to make fun of the teams that aren't winning, some people see that and fail to recognize that it's fun and games. It seems like maybe a few individuals take that lighthearted ribbing and go way too far with it.

I think a lot of the hate stims from a lack of any type of success, and the fact we're named the "bobcats" I would assume if our name was changed we'd experience a lot less hate.

I guess I sort of put it down to the same thing (lemmings = everyone else heap on the Bobcats, might as well too) but half of the chumps doing it call MJ either our coach or our GM or blame him for drafting Okafor instead of Howard or for orange being a colour in the gambit of colours or suggest we keep looking for a straight edge on a basketball.
99% of them don't know/recognize the fact it was impossible for us to be a serious team during the 1st three seasons we were in the league (thanks for that NBA) or the fact we are trying to develop a team in a city where NBA basketball became a dirty word thanks to Shinn.

This is about as incorrect an analysis of the situation as could be put forth. But, whatever confirms your rabid obsession with the Hornets name, right?

I've noticed most of the GB Haters go into threads saying Charlotte deserves the Hornets name back

The name of the franchise is the first thing an ignoramus would look at; if "haters" looked at the things they hate on logically they wouldn't "hate" in the first place, its like racists who hate on people just because of the color of their skin, they look at the book at its cover only.
To put it simply, "bobcats" is easily the worst franchise name in the league, couple that with the franchise failures, and you got yourself the perfect storm that attracts haters

I've noticed the vast majority of people don't post on RGM. I've noticed that even most of the "Haters" don't say anything about the name.
For the record, haters don't actually exist. It's a concept pushed by guys like Kanye who want to feel like the only reason someone would disagree with them is because they're irrationally hateful.
I guess the important point is that our name has nothing to do with it. If someone complains about the name, I'm willing to bet they complained about that right after complaining about something else. If it's complained about, it's just more wood for the fire rather than having any causal relationship in the process. But yeah the lack of success definitely plays a role. I bet if we had won a playoff game or two it would have been a little better, maybe.
Also, and I'm not trying to be inflammatory by saying this, but a lot of the analysts are competing with MJs legacy. So when MJ does something bad, it's good for them, maybe? Maybe not, it could be a reach.

I guess you don't know what a "hater" is, a a hater is someone who irrationally and excessively hates on something without any good or an overblown reason why. An example of a hater is a racist
I thought the premise of this thread was why does a good amount of GB posters give negative criticism to the bobcats. if we're talking about outside of this site, I still think it boils down to the name. because a teams name is the first thing someone can look at and judge a franchise by, without actually knowing its history. Sorry but that's the truth, if we were still the Hornets, or had a more respectable name we wouldn't be hated on as much.captaincrunk wrote:I guess the important point is that our name has nothing to do with it. Of course once we start winning we'll receive less hate

I am pretty sure there is not a hate conspiracy against the bobcats. It's just a lack of respect and most people not taking them seriously. And I get it. And the name has some to do with it along with there being no history or success.

Re: Why Do Opposing Fans Hate The Bobcats So Much?
What I've noticed is that it seems to be guys with lower post counts (<1000 or so) that have the most vitriol towards the team. Maybe that's just confirmation bias, but it does seem that way.
Something else that might contribute towards the hate is the MJ connection. Jordan has always been either really hot or really cold with fans so perhaps the haters have transferred that hate to the team?
Another thing may be the "new kid syndrome". We don't have a history and haven't had much of a chance to build any sort of powerhouse team so guys are like "**** 'em".
One would think the Bobcats would be one of the lovable loser teams. For the majority of our short existence (at least up until this year) we've been a team of high effort and tough players who "play the right way". Most people applaud effort...... yet the Bobcats still get a ton of hate.
One this is for certain though, the Bobcats get an inordinately high level of hate in comparison to other teams

Yeah that's what I meant really, combined with what I said about analysts. MJ definitely isn't a neutral guy in the NBA.

There might be something to this. We've won a LOT of games that teams of our caliber had no business winning. We've beaten the Celtics and the Lakers and so on in years where we couldn't even make the playoffs. So we've had some annoying wins in the past.

*in similar situations. The Heat are definitely hated, but it's a personality thing. People hate the Lakers and the Celtics and such, but it's because they've lost to them, or hate Kobe because of the court case.

I guess you don't know what words are, because I already used a whole bunch showing you that this was just crap. It's just a buzzword that people use to avoid accountability. Everyone is called a hater these days. You think LeBron needs to work on his post game? you're just a hater!
People use the word, and by your definition it should be a pretty serious accusation. You're essentially saying someone is being intellectually dishonest.

Regardless this is all opinion anyway, so there is no true right and wrong. do you have some type of obsession of trying to prove posters wrong on a message board?

It says opposing fans. Are only RGM posters fans now? At any rate, the whole "everyone's right!" is just something people say when they know they're wrong.

The mod hypocrisy on the GB is astounding. Some global mods have posted some obviously offensive things about the Bobcats whereas if it were their team or any other team the thread would be locked/posted suspended.

It's Raptors fans stirring up trouble because they're still butt-hurt that MJ backed out of the Calderon deal.
