We were once excited by a new coach called Larry Brown. We know how it went. Top 4 pick has more consistent value, coaches can be hit or miss much more.
We can get both things right...

If Red Auerbach came down from heaven and wanted to coach the Bobcats I'd still choose the draft pick. If Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach and Gregg Popovich agreed to co-coach  the Bobcats, I'd still choose the draft pick.

I've been a draft junkie for as long as I can remember so it's an easy choice. Plus, draft picks are generally a lock to be there 3-4 years whereas coaches come and go a little more easily.

One thing we can control (selecting the right head coach), one thing we can't (lottery balls).

Interesting results so far - for me at least.

Would you rather have prime MJ on the team or Phil Jackson as the coach? MJ

Bill Russell or Red Auerbach? Russell

Kareem or Riley? Kareem

I could coach a team of Magic/MJ/Pippen/Rodman/Kareem to multiple titles.
Phil couldn't coach the team we had this year to a .500 record.

That makes sense, he's probably still writing the post to go with it.

Should be quite a read in 3 hours time.

Easy to answer with the benefit of 20/20.

Attack it from another angle though. Look deep within.

Well, what is the pool to select from? If we could get any NBA coach in some kind of coach version of expansion draft then I would vote differently (as long as that coach would be thrilled to work for Bobcats and we could rule out quiting on a team and wanting out). But we can only choose fomr mostly meh coaches and less experienced assitants who can become very good but right now it is a gamble.

I would rather have Pat Riley than Kareem Rush but that's just me  :)

pick.

we are going to hire a head coach with little or no previous head coaching experience. someone to come in and be patient and teach, while losing a lot of games. whoever we coach will most likely be gone in 3 years.

Head Coach, as long as Cho finds him it will be nice to have someone that can actually manage a game for once.

That is actually one of the angles of my question.

A draft pick influences (realistically) an individual result where as a head coach effects an entire team.

I am still shocked at the results so far.
