WTF? VA Beach is practically in North Carolina....did we just gain another NBA team? How in the world is an NBA team going to sustain there? Its smaller than Raleigh without the colleges!

This is annoying for the NBA. And they'll still be western conference, which will be annoying for the teams who have to go out to play them.

decent sized metro when you add norfolk and hampton, but still...

this is a little too close to my bobcats. what if they get a better tv deal and take away the raleigh/durham market?

on the sacramento board they're confident that it's just a rumor at this point, that the VA Beach side put it out

I would think that Kansas City or some other city like that would have a MUCH better change of getting an NBA team than Virginia freakin Beach.

Why would a team be rumored to go anywhere else than Seattle? That city deserves a basketball team more than any other city.

Isn't Seattle unwilling to build a stadium? Plus, with soccer being big there as well, they'd likely be the 4th pro team that matters in the area and that would hurt them quite a bit.

Yes, you're correct - Fred Durst is Gastonia's Jay-Z.

I'm pretty sure they'd bump Milwaukee over to the Western Conference.

Seriously though, Seattle/Vancouver or Las Vegas would make a lot more sense than Virginia Beach. Too close to Charlotte or Washington DC.

Why? Haven't they lost two teams already?

Considering that there are states with multiple teams I doubt if that matters much.

Speaking as the triangle's number one Bobcats fan I have enough love to accept the kings, and still shoot down to Charlotte for games. :D

VA Beach will always be among the metros seeking a pro team, and they are getting a meeting with King's brass. That means nothing but hearing a pitch, which helps you build upon your leverage in other situations. But, I do think the potential for a move is real given their situation.

Kansas City is dying for a pro basketball or hockey team team, as they already built a grand arena in hopes of landing one. They'd prefer basketball. St. Louis NBA fans always clamor for a move here, and there is a great arena that could share basketball with the NHL Blues, but the market probably cannot handle 4 pro teams.

I seriously doubt any NBA team relocates to the Norfolk area, although they do have a large population to draw from.

California's bigger than the Carolinas, Virginia, and DC combined and has a population several times that.
