Best nickname in Carolina sports history

I'm trying to get the best nickname as voted by the fans of every city on the forum, I'll make a poll of the winners on the general board after all is said and done. Since Charlotte is Carolina's only team I'll make a poll representing both Carolinas. (max 7 contestants per poll)

Edit: Sorry guys I couldn't come up with many more nicknames for Carolina

Already Voted:
Atlanta: The Human Highlight Film - Dominique Wilkins
Boston: The Truth - Paul Pierce
Brooklyn/New Jersey: Vinsanity - Vince Carter

DLo and Stewart are Double Trouble, Smash and Dash didn't last since Chris Johnson and Lendale White claimed it. If we get Tyler do we get any MJ names? And charlotte's not the only team (you even mention two panthers), there's also the Hurricanes.

poll needs some work, not even close to the best nicknames from NC

also should define parameters of who qualifies - all the players below either grew up in NC, played college in NC or played professionally in NC

michael "air" jordan
"big game" james worthy
eric "sleepy" floyd
"the intimidator" - dale earnhardt
tyrone "muggsy" bogues
"grandmama" - larry johnson
"pistol" pete maravich
fred "curley" neal
cedric "cornbread" maxwell
horace "bones" mckinney
"the greyhound" - walter davis
charlie "choo choo" justice
enos "country" slaughter
jim "catfish" hunter

Most of the guys you listed had much longer careers with other teams, for example Air Jordan will be in the poll for the Bulls. My bad about not having Muggsy.

that doesnt make any sense... tyler hansbrough grew up in indiana, played 4 years of college ball at UNC and then played all his pro career back in indiana, but you add him to the carolina list. conversely jordan grew up in NC, played college in NC, and now owns a team in NC. - not good enough?

curly neal, born in NC, grew up in NC, played college in NC before playing for globetrotters - not good enough?

dale earnhardt born and raised in NC, raced in NC, son lives in NC, has a minor league baseball team named after him - kannapolis intimidators - a total icon in the state - not good enough?

grandmama - nickname was coined while playing with charlotte hornets where he was a marketing legend - not good enough?

cornbread maxwell - born in NC, grew up in NC, lead tiny University of NC-Charlotte to final four, one of most recognizable NBA nicknames of all-time. - not good enough?

MKG has only been in NC for less than a year and not a very interesting nickname to begin with, just his initials.

i dont know anyone who refers to williams and stewart as smash and dash. that nickname faded after about 10 minutes. everyone calls them dwill and jstew

i have no problem with coach k on the list. well deserved.

perhaps some other NC locals can back me up on this - or just pick you want and move on. who needs a poll in that case?

Lol the names mentioned in this poll is ridiculous.

I'd vote for the intimidator though

david skywalker thompson (not sure if he had this nickname in college)

tshimanga biakabutuka is cooler as a real name than most players nicknames

Change all the options, remove what's there and put in Muggsy, The Intimidator, The King and Grandmama.

1 vote for Muggsy

Since wrestling was brought up, wasn't Ricky the Dragon Steamboat born in Charlotte as well?

Oh ****, the Nature Boy wins hands down.

In terms of basketball, I have to go with Cornbread.

Yeah I was trying to come up with some Panther or Hurricanes ones until I saw The Intimidator and The Nature Boy, one of those would be my pick.

I agree that the poll needs to be changed to the ones folks have suggested. Initials aren't inventive, and the other choices weren't used often enough.

Fat's list is spot on. Plus add in the Nature Boy. And I guess Coach K too even though it's not imaginative.

There are a lot of really good nicknames in there, so it's hard to choose. But I'll go with Muggsy.

Just forget it, I'm in over my head, this entire idea was a mistake

Wait! I thought of one more. Rod Smart, RB for the Panthers. He wasn't around long and didn't do too much, but "He Hate Me" is just too good of a nickname to ignore.

I think the general consensus here is Nature Boy or Intimidator, just take one and run with it.

I like the idea. You're doing fine, but would probably be better off going to the forums and doing it organically and letting the members come up with the best choices for themselves because it's hard for anybody to know all the popular/famous/best nicknames from different parts of the country.

I'd like to see the finished results whenever you get to that point.

I'll add another vote for Nature Boy, btw!
