The Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Bobcats all have interest in Ellis, a scoring guard who opted out of the final year of his deal worth $11 million with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Ignoring chemistry and culture, he's a decent fit. I don't think he is good enough to be a first option on a championship team but with him, jefferson, and kemba scoring we wouldn't really have much trouble in that department. They're all good for at least 18 ppg. His size and defense (relative to Hendo and Jeff Taylor, that is) isn't so great but he passes well.

No, no, no to Monta Ellis coming to Charlotte. Just reading that the Bobcats inquired is the worst news I've read all day

We're currently @ ~$52M with the cap, do we even have cap room for Ellis? To get him, he has to either sign for less with 7M or with a sign-and-trade.

it seems we're adding pieces to a young core that we think can compete. Kind of like adding David West to the Pacers, except they were ahead of us by already having Granger. But remember Granger was gone all year and they still did well with Hibbert, George, and West. We have Kemba, MKG, and Jefferson. It's a similar composition in terms of ceilings. The Pacers are obviously better right now, but that's the idea I think.

Acquiring whatever assets we can? If we can get him at an affordable deal maybe flip him at the deadline? Hell, beats me.

I'd assume we'd renounce Hendo if we agreed to terms with Ellis, thus freeing up $7.7m.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt 1m

Monta Ellis deciding between Atlanta, Dallas, per source. Also interested in Sacramento but Mbah a Moute deal may take Kings out of mix.

There's so point in getting monta unless we plan on trading him later on in the year. Not sure what the FO is thinking

You guys are never gonna believe this but I was interviewing for a marketing job in Uptown and they gave us a tour of Time Warner Arena. In one of the rooms I saw a big white board with names listed on it in different color markers. I didn't think to snap a picture with my camera phone but I probably wouldn't do that in the middle of an interview. But if I remember correctly this is what I saw.

1. OJ Mayo
2. Andre Iguodola
3. Monta Ellis
4. Kevin Martin
5. Eric Gordon
6. Gerald Henderson

There were also plus and minus signs after each name.

What do you think it means, fellas?

IDK.

I don't really expect that the Bobcats are serious contenders for Ellis' services.

That said ... logically the team needs 3 point shooting and hasn't moved on Hendo. Ellis could be an answer.

More realistically I expect that the FO is letting many free agents know that they are interested. They are building up visiblity, both with NBA players (sending the message that they intend to get better) and with agents (keep us in mind next year with your clients).

Edit: lol @ MasterIchiro 8-)

I really dont see the FO pushing hard on Ellis unless they have been told by Hendo's camp he wants much more $ than they plan to pay, or that he simply does not want to return. If that was the case, I'd be fine with the FO finding a way to bring Ellis to Charlotte.

the plan under larry brown was to be like the pistons and build a team around defense and 5 solid starters - that didnt work

then we decided to be like the heat and try to clear a ton of cap space (dust chip) to land chris paul and carmelo (remember that two week saga) - that didnt work

so then we decided to be like the thunder and tank hard to land several years of high lottery picks and find our kevin durant - that didnt work

and now we appear to be trying to follow the pacers model of adding solid vets to a core of decent, but not superstar guys on rookie deals. and when that doesnt work we will try to emulate the next team to have success. we are always following someone elses blueprint, never our own.

Hopefully, the Bobcats can dodge the bullet of Monta Ellis becoming a detriment
