Admit you were wrong.
OK. In the spirit of keeping everything subjective:
This is my big confession - I bet my brother that Tim Duncan would never pan out in the NBA because he was too passive.
What are your grand predictions that failed miserably?

i thought curry was too short, thin and unathletic to play in the NBA. I expected something closer to the career jimmer has had.

Not too bad. I had serious doubts about him as well. I'm still amazed that he can play at the level he does - god bless GSW.

Re: Admit you were wrong.
Probably my biggest mishap was thinking that the Cleveland Cavaliers should have taken Derrick Williams with the 1st overall pick & Kemba Walker with the 4th overall pick instead of Kyrie Irving & Tristan Thompson in the 2011 NBA Draft, but the jury is still out on that. Time is still telling if I was completely wrong on that because despite Kyrie becoming a all star in only his 2nd season it hasn't amounted to much success in the wins column & he's overtly injury prone
My other admittance might be that I didn't think James Harden was worth a max contract, but I still believe that. I think he's moreso worth a deal that pays between $13-15 million. Time is still telling how wrong I am on that as well

Re: Admit you were wrong.
DJ Augustin once had me under his spell.
When I saw him live a few times I was convinced his quickness would carry him to star potential.
When I make mistakes it's usually because I envision best case scenario rather than selling a player short. On the rare occasion when I sell short I tend to be right. I more often overestimate a player than underestimate him. I think of how he could become successful and my mind gets caught up in that.

I thought Felton would be as good as Chris Paul.

Re: Admit you were wrong.
great thread
speaking of duncan, during garnett's rookie season i bet my friends that kevin garnett would have a better career than tim duncan. i lost the bet, but it was not an outrageous claim
obviously i was dead wrong about ammo, well documented on these boards
wrong about felton - said he had as much talent as paul and deron
i said gerald wallace was no better than stacey augmon after his 1st year here.
i was wrong about adonal foyle. i really thought he was going to be the next mutombo
wrong about bo kimble and lionel simmons, sadly - i loved those guys
wrong about randolph childress, my favorite college player in last 20 years.
wrong about ed cota who i thought would make it as a backup pg
i was wrong about rajon rondo. i cut him during his rookie season in my dynasty league. doh!!!
but damnit i was right about kevin love, steph curry, durant over oden and walter freakin herrmann!!!!

Re: Admit you were wrong.
I thought Curry was going to struggle do to his size and being more a SG than PG. Also going back further I thought DaJuan Wagner would have been better.

I actually thought Adam Morrison was going to be a great NBA player. Very happy when the picked him. Now, very sad that they picked him. I was wrong.

I hope that when we do this thread next year, I'll be saying " To think, I wanted Len rather than Zeller. What a mistake that would have been!"

Cut yourself some slack, it's a bit early to pass final judgment on that draft and probably the one before it really.
I was wrong about Hibbert and Brook Lopez. I thought they would be total stiffs. I didn't take into account the complete lack of decent bigs that allowed Hibbert and Lopez to become All-Stars.
I thought Steph Curry would be too frail to stay healthy, he's doing his best to prove me wrong so far, good for him.
I really liked the Morrison pick at the time but I think I was just delusional because during that draft I was in the hospital hoping my dad survived his heart attack. (He did) I still think Ammo would have been okay had the ACL injury not robbed the pathetic amount of athleticism he had. (In a similar vein, I thought Jonny Flynn would be good but injuries got him too.)
Way back wrong admittance: The Hornets drafting Jamaal Magliore. I absolutely was incensed with rage and never in a million years would I imagine that Big Cat would be decent and actually make an All Star game (still amazed by that).

Those two top my list of ACC players I thought for sure would translate well to the NBA and didn't. Childress was just *deadly* in college.
Then Christian Laettner and Marvin Williams are two I expected to be superstars who haven't lived up to how high they were drafted.
If Syracuse counts as ACC, I'll throw in John Wallace. I thought he'd do more.

Re: Admit you were wrong.
I thought that I was wrong once ... but I was mistaken.
I thought that DJ Augustin had potential. I thought that Morrison was a "swing for the fences" pick that was going to be great or be a bust ... but I really thought that he might make it.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu

Re: Admit you were wrong.
Here's what I was wrong about the Bobcats- I'll do something for the league as a whole later:
- I thought the Charlotte Flight name was perfect and that it was going to be picked.
- I thought the Bobcats orange was going to be awesome rather than an eyesore.
- I thought we were going to get Howard, because I was positive the Magic would take Okafor.
- I thought Morrison was going to be the next big thing. I was thrilled when we drafted him, and thought that Felton, Morrison, Wallace, Okafor were all going to be all-stars and were going to win championships. (I was only 13 or 14, so...)
- I thought Matt Carroll was legit.
- I was a J-Rich maniac from his time in GS and went berserk when we traded for him and I thought he was going to be an all-star.
- I thought Walter Herrmann was going to be a bum. (I know, that's just unforgivable)
- I really wanted us to draft Joe Alexander or Anthony Randolph (or Westbrook if he fell) instead of Augustin.
- I thought we could get positive value for Morrison if we traded him
- I thought Diop was going to be good.
- I thought Tyson Chandler was going to be amazing. (He was, just not for us)
- I wanted one of Terrence Williams or Demar Derozan (or Henderson but I really hoped Curry would come here)
- I thought either Sherron Collins or Livingston would start over Augustin
- I didn't think we would trade Wallace at all, but I thought we were going to get Batum if we did
- I was ready to give up on Kemba after one season and call Augustin PG of the future

Re: Admit you were wrong.
- I thought Bismack Biyombo was gonna have a much more immediate effect on defense, although at the time, I thought he was like 2-3 inches taller than he actually is.
- I thought Tristan Thompson wouldn't pan out as an NBA player. Same for Isaiah Thomas (Jr) or Klay Thompson
- I thought the Heat would win a title their first year.
- I thought the Blazers and Timberwolves were 7th or 8th seed locks after summer league.
- I also believed that Kobe Bryant wouldn't be able to:
1. Average more than 25 ppg without shooting less than 45%
2. Play at an elite level this far into his career considering injuries, wear-and-tear, and it's like his 18th season playing.
- I thought DJ Augustin would play a LOT better on another team with finishers and PnR players.

Re: Admit you were wrong.
I thought Larry Brown would lead us to the "Promised Land", but then again he is the same reason why I got so mad at my Lakers back in 2004 for having such a "stacked" team and being beat in the Finals.....so.....I started out fresh that year with the Bobcats.

Re: Admit you were wrong.
back to hornet drafts, in 1999 when the hornets lucked into the #3 pick i wanted them to pick anyone other than baron davis. athletic guard with no jump shot and questionable playmaking skills, coming back from ACL tear in college and refusing to work out with the team, yeah, you can understand why i wasnt on board. i was really hoping we'd get lamar odom or steve francis.
