http://fansided.com/2013/09/14/charlotte-bobcats-send-patrick-obryant-training-camp-invite/Those crazy Cats. The soon-to-be Hornets are going to take a look at “Patty O’B” in training camp. Does he have a chance at making the team? Maybe, but, he wouldn’t get a lot of playing time.
He was a first round pick in a rather weak 2006 draft, at least because there quite a number of busts in that class. O’Bryant was one of them and, in just four seasons, he disappeared. Last NBA game was during 2009-10 season. During his NBA career he averaged 2.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in just 5.8 minutes. He’s been playing small roles in the D-League and overseas.
At 27 years old, he still has room to grow although he may never be a starter in the NBA. Still, as the 9th pick in his draft, he will go down as a bust. I mean, I’m not sure what else to say for him. If he can get on a roster, then that’s great. That’s the first step. Then, you go for more minutes during practice and stuff. As long as he’s ready to go when his number is called, he should be fine.
As long as no money is guaranteed, I'm okay with this.
Career per 36 stats: 12.8ppg, 8.7rpg, 2,7bpg, 49.4%, and 8.7 (!) fouls per game in 90 games.

All part of our plan to employ every bust from the illustrious class of 2006. Ammo, Tyrus Thomas, now Patrick O'Bryant. Shelden Williams is waiting anxiously by the phone.
Agree - sort of a non-invite invite. Doubt he makes the team, but if he does, I'm sure he can waive towels with the best of 'em.

No use picking up Saer Sene though, since we already have Biz.

We should sign David Noel (picked 39th in 2006) that way we can shut up people that said we should've drafted Noel and laugh in their faces when we have a Noel that actually plays in 2013-14.

The chances that he makes the team are the same as the Panthers winning a close game

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_n ... -camp.htmlRod Higgins, Bobcats president of basketball operations, confirmed Monday that O'Bryant, a 7-footer out of Bradley, has been invited to camp at UNC Asheville next week. O'Bryant, 27, was originally drafted ninth overall in 2006 by the Golden State Warriors. Higgins was in the Warriors’ front office at that time.
I should have known there was a connection. how did i miss this? further proving the point that higgins is one of the worst talent evaluators that has ever held a position of power in the NBA.

I remember how the Warriors kept drafting these bigs that supposedly would take Biedrins's role as the young and promising center off the bench, yet Andris outlived each one.
From Ike Diogu and Patrick O'Bryant to Kosta Perovic and Jermareo Davidson. Higgins was part of their FO when drafting all these guys.

Embarrassing and maddening as usual.
So, any connection between Abdul Gaddy and Higgins?
Meanwhile, I haven't heard anything about Ewing Jr or summer star Jerome Dyson (or my fave Brandon Triche) being invited. Is it possible PEW Jr won't be there?

I thought we actually drafted Davidson in the second round and then traded him a year or so after? Either way I think Higgins was the guy who drafted him?

He came over in the Jason Richardson trade. It's possible that they made the pick for us though. Either way Higgins was involved in it.

Ah. I stand corrected.

and just to be clear, i have no problem with higgins bringing obryant in for a workout. he has a previous relationship with him, so its understandable that obryant's agent might try higgins' team as a landing spot for a tryout.
doesnt take away from the fact that higgins blew the pick back in 2006.

Well, I do have a problem. Since he's been out of the league his performance has been disappointing everywhere he's played. If you average single digits in the D-League, Puerto Rico, China and for an average D-League club, you most likely aren't good enough to play in the NBA.
I would rather have given Ike Diogu or Hamed Haddadi a camp invite.
