I really liked Phoenix the first two weeks as those guys are young, athletic and can defend. But after winning a few close games and being 5-2, their luck has turned (as it should have) and they've hit a slump.

Should be a fun game.

I hope Bledsoe play so I can see how Kemba matches up against him. I have a feeling MKG is going to have a good game to the tune of 15+ points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. I wonder if Alex Len is playing tonight or is he injured with that stress fracture?

Playing against who? Gerald Green? The Morris twins? Quadruple double.

Len's been playing a little. He'll probably play.

Also Jefferson will play.

I'm definitely glad he is going to be back for the game I just don't understand why they insist on playing him when they know it is probably going to cause him to miss the next three games. If it were up to me i would tell him to sit out for as long as he needed to, or about a month and then bring him back to see if he could play for an extended period of time. It would be nice to actually see him build a rapport with the starting lineup.

If he does play a solid amount of minutes tonight I fully expect him to destroy the frontcourt of the Suns. Should be close to his stat line from the Celtics game, 22 pts and 11 rebs. Kemba shouldn't have a difficult time handling the backcourt either, after he put up 31 against the Nets.

Al Jefferson has been out for 1 week & 2 days (4 games) since his last game. There definitely should be a minutes restriction on him to the tune of like 25 minutes max until he can prove that he can play several games in a row without the ankle injury lingering

I like your optimism.

I am concerned about Al, but I guess they know what they're doing. They're not gonna destroy his ankle for sure. Or I just hope so...
However it's good to see Al back! Cats need to win this one. Hope Jeff Taylor will drain some threes and MKG hitting at least one jumper.
Now, Hendo is a mystery :eyebrows:

Welcome to the forum, amigo. I would have welcomed you earlier but I thought you were popping in from other regions of RealGM. :D

This will be one of the more interesting match-ups we've had this season I think. Teams are fairly similar. Both like to go with 2-pg line-ups (Dragic and Bledsoe vs. Kemba and Ramon), both have young, athletic forwards (Morris twins vs MKG and Zeller), an atypical perimeter big (McBob vs. Channing Frye) and uber-athletic C's that can't be counted on for much offense (Plumlee vs. Biz). Having Al play tonight probably swings this in our favor if it wasn't already.

Game #13: Bobcats vs. Suns 3-on-3 Preview

1- STATS. To pretty much anyone who follows NBA basketball, the fact that Charlotte and Phoenix are both top-10 defensive teams this season is a shocker. How are the Bobcats and Suns excelling on the defensive end?

Spencer: Both teams have been very good at protecting the rim and keeping teams at bay from deep. This is a testament to the coaching, probably more than anything else. Hornacek and Clifford have convinced their teams to sell out on the defensive end.

The Bobcats are extremely connected as a core, defensively, protecting gaps and closing out on shooters like a S.W.A.T. team. Although I haven’t gotten my eyes on Phoenix a ton early in the season, I’m going to assume it’s a lot of the same. Many times it comes down to effort on the defensive end and neither of these groups are lacking in that department currently.

Greg: I touched on this a little bit the other day, but the Bobcats have been very good at protecting the paint — they rank sixth in opponent FG% on shots within eight feet of the basket. They’re also doing a very good job on the defensive glass so far, ranking fourth in DRB%. That they’ve managed that without a dominant rebounder is a testament to the team’s effort and coaching.

The Suns have also been very good at protecting the rim, holding opponents to the fourth-lowest FG% in the restricted area. They’ve combined that with good three-point defense, holding teams to the third-fewest attempts and the fifth-lowest 3P%. That shouldn’t bother the Bobcats too much, since they’re in the bottom five of three-pointers attempted.

Mathew: For Charlotte, it’s been protecting the rim. For all the things Bismack Biyombo struggles with (hint – offense), his impact is certainly felt on the defensive end, particularly around the rim. Opponents have only converted on 51% of attempts in the restricted area, a full 5.5% above League-average. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist continues to improve on the wing as well.
For Phoenix, you can’t look past the acquisition of Eric Bledsoe and the ferocious on-the-ball defense he provides at the point. However, much of the Suns’ success can be attributed to protecting the rim as well, as they’ve allowed teams to convert only 50.8% of the time. Take notes, kids – protecting the rim is important.

2- SURPRISED? For better or for worse, who’s been the most surprising player on either of these rosters so far this season?

Spencer: I’m going to go with Gerald Green. He’s always been a high-flyer, but never an extremely efficient player overall. So far this season Green is averaging 15 PPG and sports a TS% of 64.6. Overall, Green has a PER of 17.07, significantly over the league average of 15.00. He’s been a nice shot in the arm for Phoenix so far this season, especially offensively. Although I doubt this continues throughout the year, it’s nice to see due to the fact that he’s failed to find a consistent home so far in the NBA – Green has played in 7 different cities in 6 seasons.

Greg: People were expecting Eric Bledsoe to be good, but few probably thought he’d be this good this fast. He’s upped his scoring (20.4 points on 50 percent shooting), assist rate, and rebounding (4.6 per game), and he’s an impact player on defense. All that effort and energy means he’s a bit mistake-prone, averaging 3.9 turnovers a game, but it’s still fun to watch.

Mathew: Markieff Morris. He’s really improved his efficiency so far this season, due in large part (which is weird to say in today’s game) to taking less 3-point attempts. A full 50% of his attempts have occurred at the rim so far this season, where he’s cashing in at an astounding rate of 65.9% (50.4% last season). He’s still not a prototypical 4, and he may well develop a better stroke from deep with time, but right now he’s reaping the benefits of a big man’s traditional shot selection.

3- PICK IT. Charlotte goes for their second straight win + an above .500 record while Phoenix is trying to avoid their 5th straight loss. Who ya got?

Spencer: Charlotte. The Suns are reeling, losers of 4 straight. Charlotte, on the other hand, will be fighting to get back over .500 tonight + is likely getting Al Jefferson back.

Greg: I think it’s Charlotte. Phoenix doesn’t rebound well on either end of the floor, and they’ve only got one road win so far. They’re turnover-prone, too, which Charlotte should be able to take advantage of. Have a nice Friday, everyone.

Mathew: Bobcats. I think another close game is in line, as these teams are pretty well matched. The Suns shoot a lot of threes, an aspect of defense the Bobcats have struggled with over the past few seasons. If they can limit the Suns open attempts I think a victory is likely.

Do you participate in this, Mr. Knowitall? I was just curious because I notice you post these every game. Either way, I enjoy reading them, so thank you!

Bledsoe (shin) didn't complete the Suns' morning shootaround and is highly doubtful for Friday's game in Charlotte, the Arizona Republic reports. (34 minutes ago)

If Bledsoe doesn't play I don't think PHO wants to win, I think we win.

I have no participation in these previews. I just post them because I think they are a more insightful look into the game beforehand. I'm a black sheep on this board. Many would know that I'm actually a Sixers fan, but I've grown a passion to follow Bobcats through their struggles over the past 3 years that I heart them like an adopted child

Bledsoe scared of Kemba!!! :dontknow:

Just kidding but I was really looking forward to their matchup. He really need to sit because I don't want to witness a Kevin Ware of Louisville type incident tonight.

I remember several posters on here saying Bledsoe would only be good as a change-of-pace backup. Wish he was playing tonight.

I think on any good team, he'd still be a sixth man playing behind/next to a pure point- he'd be a really good sixth man but it's too early to tell.

I know I've had a back & forth with 'fatlever' about Kemba vs Bledsoe a while ago. He's very high on Bledsoe. Now that Bledsoe is a starter, it would've been interesting to see them finally duke it out with similar levels of talent around them

if you believe that bledsoe is only a 6th man on a good team, then certainly you must feel the same way about kemba.

Based on their careers so far, Kemba has been a far superior player to Bledsoe. If Bledsoe keeps up what he's doing right now or anything close to it, then yeah, he's a starter, but he's averaging 21/7. He won't be sustaining that.

good memory mrknowitall, you really do "know it all" :D

yeah, i have been pretty high on bledsoe for a few years, mainly because i had him in my dynasty league since he was a rookie so i spent a lot of time focusing on him when i watched the clips. not saying i think he is some kind of superstar (at least not yet), just that when he was a backup, to me, it was clear he had the talent to shine as a starter.

obviously he needs to keep up his play for more than a month to really prove that he belong with the top half of the point guards in the league, but at least people now have a glimpse of what he can do given minutes and a green light.
