Okay we've come to the end of the regular season and while we are waiting for the playoffs to start and between twiddling thumbs and tapping toes, I thought I can put my GCP stats into some good use.

Here are some ideas of how to make use of the GCP that I have been compiling:

Top 5 Players GCP average per game
(1) Kemba - 28
(2) Marv and Al - 20
(4) MKG - 18
(5) Lin - 17

5 Most contributing Players in CHA (by Total GCP):
(1) Kemba - 2,256
(2) Batum - 1,695

Top 5 Best value for money (by GCP/million dollar salary)
(1) Lin - 620
(2) Frank - 372

Yeah we all heard it before, CHA got Lin for a steal (but by how much?) - taking into consideration that the whole team's average GCP/million dollar salary stands at 209 - Lin's contribution was worth at least a 6 million salary - so CHA had saved 4m in this regard. (This also likely mean that if CHA don't plan to pay Lin 6m next year - others might - so very likely Lin could decline his player's option) - but back to the topic - seriously these 5 deserve some kind of pay raise (if those of you are interested to know who deserve a cut in their salary - can pm me for details).

Last year Charlotte had historically prolific shooting but lacked backcourt passing, specifically 2nd unit backcourt passing unless Batum was out there. Getting Belinelli should help close the starter/bench backcourt efficiency gap - I'm sure that's what Cho had in mind.

Speaking of which, players generally shoot better against opposing benches compared to opposing starters, exceptions often being playmakers required to finish possessions in 2nd unit lineups light on ball skills: Paul, Lowry, Middleton, Harden, Love, Hayward and Batum are such examples.

eFG% vs. Starters = shooting eFG% when playing against 4-5 opposing starters.
Potential Assist TS% = the TS% on a player's potential assists including TO's (all plays, vs. all units).
Usage TOV% = TOV's relative to possessions the player consumes

Hmm... Without looking at anything, gonna say Kemba Walker, January.

My darkhorse candidate is Marv's February - 14.8 pts, 51% FG, 46.3% 3PT on 5.4 3PTAs, 7.8 boards

I think we still have seriously understated how absurd Marv's transformation was from 2014-15 to 2015-16. Literally zero people on this board would have believed that was possible last season, myself included.

And credit Miami's 3 point line oriented defense for that Marv not showing up in the playoffs.

IMO, here are some of the best months of the year. One per player. They aren't in any particular order, but I think we would all agree those top three are neck and neck for the best.

Some other notes:

-Frank having his best month in the last month of the season (only 8 games, but still), is phenomenal. Most rookies hit a wall and he just got better and had his best shooting month down the stretch.

-After November Lamb was garbage, but he had a damn impressive start to the season. If you can get 13/5/2 out of him on 52% shooting throughout the year, his contract is an absolute steal.

-Courtney Lee struggled in April, but he hopped right on board when he got here. 48.9% from three is ridiculous

You see us shooting below 30% from three (29.9% to be precise) and assume we must be near the bottom of the league in 3PT%. Then you look and see that we are actually barely below league average, 19th overall and higher than GSW, LAC, TOR, PHX, OKC, and DEN.

Weird.

Our ORTG is ranked 14th. Also surprising.

My guess is Kemba in March. He had really good 3pt and overall TS% if I recall correctly.

We are currently allowing the fifth highest % on above the break threes (38.1%) while also allowing the most attempts from that zone (24.5 per game).

Suspect that small sample size + Avery Bradley had something to do with that, but something to monitor.

On the plus side, our low post defense has been solid. We are allowing the second lowest % on restricted area FGs (50.4%, distant gap between us and SAS in third at 55.8%), even though we allow the 6th most attempts in the RA.

We have four guys on our team shooting 100% from the FT line. You would think that Marv or maybe Cody would be in that group. Nope - it's Marco, Roy, Frank, and Spencer. Batum is shooting 86.7%, Kemba is shooting 85.2%.

Our two worst FT shooters are Cody and Marv - 50% and 61.9% respectively. Sessions at 62%. MKG at 69%.
