Every team outside of the top 8 of the standings in the East has a negative net rating except us. Four of the seven teams directly above us in the East standings, including two teams in the top 8, have a worse net rating than us.

Makes me believe even more that tanking this season and getting a new coach could be so beneficial. We are too talented to deserve a top 5-7 pick in the draft, but we are right there in a great position to get it.

A stud prospect, a good coach, and some better play from Batum, could cause this team's outlook to do a complete 180.

That @T1m_NBA dude had a piece out recently that said we had the best schemes in the league.

Much of his stats are just based on his opinion and I'm going to guess he hasn't watched many Hornets games.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

We have zero players that have played in each of our last 10 games and posted a positive net rating: https://stats.nba.com/players/advanced/?sort=NET_RATING&dir=-1&Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&LastNGames=10&TeamID=1610612766

Super self indulgent, but I took a look at stats to see which teams other than the Hornets I might be interested in watching as the year winds down and Cliff keeps Monk nailed to the bench. My criteria: OFRTG (must be top 10), Assist% (tired of no-pass ball), Pace (Hornets aren't terrible here - but fast >slow), 3PA (I like 3s), FEWEST FTA (don't like watching folks at the line all the time - ironically the Hornets are leading the league here). I didn't care about D, ;)

Anyway 3 of the top 5 teams didn't shock me. Warriors, Cavs, & Raptors ... but two did. The Pels & Nuggets both came up as teams that I might want to watch. Now I doubt that the Pels will be as interesting without Cousins, but I'm probably going to try to catch a few of their games now. Ditto for the Nuggets.

Charlotte Hornets have the 2nd worst bench production in the NBA (29th in NETRTG), only ahead of the Phoenix Suns. Most of that detriment is driven down by them having the 2nd worst offensive rating among benches in the league (29th in OFFRTG), only ahead of the Sixers by a single decimal point at the moment

I found various parts of this interesting, but the draft section at the end is what really caught my eye.

starting lineup has -26.8 rtg in 71 mins. that needs to change, tank or no tank.

cz, roz, bac combo seems to be root of trouble. -27.5 in 97 min.
meanwhil, dg, bac, pj are +13.1 in 64 min

13th in 3pa

Yeah that’s not just a little low that is several levels lower than any other starting 5 in the league. JB should consider starting with the group he has been closing with. Or experiment by swapping Bacon and/or Cody out with someone else.

My biggest fear is when Batum comes back all of this comes crashing down and we are back to being tank commanders.

Graham appears in all of the top fifteen three-man lineups so far this year. (Minimum 48 minutes played.) Unreal. But only the top seven are in positive territory for + / - after ten games.

The information comes from Basketball Reference.

Edit: the stats have been updated this morning to include eleven games, so they now differ a bit from the above statements.

After 18 games, only two Hornets have a positive +- per game: Batum (3.0 in 7 games) and Cody Martin (0.8 in 15). Right after them come Monk (-.9) and Biyombo (-1.4).

What is surprising to me is the two guys at the bottom: Rozier (-7.9) and Bridges (-9.0). Truly awful numbers, considering they have played in every game. The two players just above them, Zeller (-6.4) and Bacon (-6.7), are also having abysmal seasons. The same four players, in different order, also round out the bottom in net rating (minimum 6 games played).

Not all that surprising with the exception of Batum being a lot higher than I would’ve thought and Marvin being a bit lower.

Wth are we going to do with Miles? His season is disappointing to say the least.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with both Miles and Bacon ... and they were two of the guys I was most excited about over the summer with all the workout stuff they posted.

I wonder if they were actually a negative influence on each other. Bacon looking to get his and posting stats. Miles with his connections to to LeBron's extended camp.

And looked at the two stat links above again. It is interesting how well Batum is doing in both of those.
