Still no love for the cats?

Been reading around various forums including realgm and speaking to many basketball fans and everyone puts the cats down? We are a top 5 defensive team in this league with an all star calibre point guard and soon to be an ELITE perimeter defender in MKG if not already, not to mention a great post player if not the best post player, and are in a playoff position.

Anyone get the same hate for the cats? I think its time people really do need to recognize that this franchise has changed drastically and with the hornets coming back next year, and the nice capspace we could be a really dangerous team, im banking on it infact.

What are your guys//girls views on this?

I honestly feel like this would be a good thread... If we were the Phoenix Suns..

Were 14-18. 3 games out of the 3 seed and 4 or so games to being next to last in the conference. I don't think we deserve anything, especially the way we've played lately.

Ofcourse lately the cats have been underwhelming by the standards we have seen this season, but...we're starting tolliver at SF with CDR backing him up? Lets not forget who is out..MKG AND Jeff Taylor, u cant just dismiss that. CDR brings absolutely nothing on the floor, the dude looks like a headless chicken waving his arms around like a fool. I'd rather beg the case to play with 4 on court instead of him there.

I know the east is bad but, we deserve respect for what weve done thus far and the fact we are on a plus at closing out games. Once MKG is back we'll see what goes on. I have full faith in this franchise acheiving heights even this season. Do not be like the rest and under estimate.

Agree with Liver_Pooty. If you go back and look at our wins, there is nothing there to write home about, we haven't really beaten anybody we weren't "supposed" to beat, and have lost to some pretty horrendous teams. Plus as many others are pointing out, we are doing this in a season when it is more acceptable to lose. I don't think there are any outright tank jobs by the players but some FO's have put their teams in a position to fail.

I'm happy you are confident, but Kemba has regressed this year, and it will take another season or two and staying healthy for MKG to even sniff credit around the league.

Im honestly not bothered were not .500 at the minute, what it is that has annoyed me is teams will have no love for us even after coming close to beating thunder...indiana....THE HEAT...last year we got blown out and the year before was even worse, but now we actually compete with teams! thats a good sign. Also coming back to beat detroit was sweet!

So i emphasise more on the matches lost that were quite close as to games we won. I'm curious, do you believe we'll make the playoffs? Even if it is due to the easts horrible form. My issue is also that it shouldn't be acceptable to lose, we're the fans of a franchise and we want to win, we don't accept losing. Draft pick or not. Atleast i don't condone losing? I honestly feel were just 2 pieces from a top 4 playoff team in the east.

As for kemba, in the assists column he has regressed, but statistics aren't everything, last year he was THE MAN. This year there's a lot of hand offs to big Al rightfully so. However, kemba now has a nice 3point shot, needs a little work still but it's lethal enough for the defense not to sag off. Im please with his progress because last year he prgressed more than some thought he would. And the offense goes through Mcroberts thats why his assist numbers are quite high aswell.

As for the mighty MKG, he has already locked up carmelo, one of, if not the greatest offensive threat in the league, all i think he needs to do is build more confidence, right now i think he is a great lockdown defender, by next year i see an elite defender, i know i come across as a pessimist but i honestly feel all this will follow.

I honestly think we would have been this competitive regardless of Jefferson. We're just showing the natural progression of our young guys and have the addition of a good coaching staff for once. Kemba, Hendo, MKG, Taylor, and Biz are all getting better so there is no way we would have been as bad as last year.

So i emphasise more on the matches lost that were quite close as to games we won. I'm curious, do you believe we'll make the playoffs? Even if it is due to the easts horrible form.

I hope to god we don't make the playoffs. If we can't do any better than 5th seed, and that's looking more and more likely each game, we should go stealth tank to make sure we keep our pick.

No fan wants their team to lose but you have to crawl before you can walk. Trying to walk too soon leads to a lot more losing than patiently rebuilding. We don't have the assets/means to acquire 2 pieces and become a top 4 team in the East because Cho hasn't drafted well enough and wasted cap space on Al Jefferson.

I think we'll make 6th-7th seed, more 6th than 7th...We are owed 2 picks, a pick from detroit and a pick from portland, i have confidence we will get both this offseason, id rather package those 2 picks and get a higher one, possibly top 12 than 'tank' we need to win now and sign a 3 and d guy (or draft that) and a big defensive interior presence. I didnt say sign 2 max contracts?

I think we draft one of what were looking for and hope it pans out, get the other one via free agency i think its perfectly do-able and would get us top 4.

Can't wait to be the hornets, no more laughing then :D

Firstly I must say I really respect your enthusiasm and I'm glad you have it! being honest it reminds me of how I used to be!

I say used to because after years of supporting this team, the optimism has subsided due to the headache that is loving the Bobcats and the continual disappointments we as fans have had to endure.

I feel I have the right to feel this way, as I am emotionally and financially invested in the team.

These days I try to look at things with a level head and analyse our team as any other.

I feel like we've kind of been lied to, after blowing up the team we were sold on taking a step back take a few steps forward, it seems that we've taken two steps back to take a step forward and the reality is that we are still a step behind from where we started.

We've blown up a treadmill team...to build...a treadmill team...wtf?

Our starting 1,2,4 & 5 are amongst the most inefficient of starting players at their respective positions in the league, they are shooting 41,42,41 & 45 percent respectively, MKG is clearly our most efficient player and gets told to stand in the corner and take 6 shots a game.

MKG is dangerous offensively in the post, transition and isolation but we don't run anything for him at all.

Our offense is horrific, pathetic and almost unwatchable.

Kemba has regressed, Hendo has not improved one iota and I love McBob but we must be the only team in the league that would give him the usage we do.

We are in dire need of rim protection and we have a guy basically glued to the bench who would be perfect for that role, Biz is averaging 7.4/12.4/2.2 per 36 but is only getting 18mpg, if you take away his minutes from when Al was injured then he's probably averaging 10 minutes a game.

It is completely inexcusable.

Tanking is a dirty word and I would not advocate it but would we really be worse off if Biz and MKG (when healthy) were getting the minutes that would keep their confidence up and made them feel like they are given every opportunity to develop.

Would it kill us if we actually prioritised our prospects PT who have sky high potential.

I seen someone post the other day that it's good that we are bringing our guys like Biz and MKG along slowly now like the well run franchises do.

I cannot agree with this as generally the well run franchises have late picks and have to develop them slowly into their system, also, successful teams are usually talented and deep and prospects have to get to the level to beat out their competition at their position.

MKG was a #2 pick and is clearly one of our best players, Biz was a #7 pick and needs minutes to justify that.

We've put a lot of effort into Taylor and to be honest I don't really rate him at all, in fact he's pretty terrible.

Good value for a second rounder but there is clearly a reason he slid.

Biz at the start of the season losing minutes to Rocky was head scratching, Biz not replacing Zeller in the rotation already is frustrating and ridiculous (and I'm a Zeller fan)

I'm not on the fire Cho bandwagon that some are riding on and I don't think Cho has done a terrible job but clearly he could have done a better job imo.

I'm starting to think that Cho spends his days playing minesweeper on that super computer of his.

I suppose that what I'm saying with this rant is that there is a very good reason that there is still no love for the Cats.

We don't really deserve it at this point.

7th and 8th is pretty much an instant exit, 6th is likely against someone like the Hawks and we struggle mightily against them as well. Packaging low 1st rounders to move up into the lottery sounds great but it's much easier said than done. This is a really talented draft, there won't be many teams wanting to trade out of the lottery.
