I like his music. It's a nice change of pace for me. I wouldn't consider him overrated if he's not really rated highly among the masses. I view his music as an acquired taste

Let's see if I can recoup any street cred with some pirate metal or Finnish Folk metal:

Always been one of my favourites

listened to that song two days ago. always a favorite. when i was in junior high i was a drummer in an awful garage band. we played mostly hendrix and cream songs. songs we played:

hey joe - hendrix
purple haze - hendrix
voodoo chile - hendrix
sunshine of your love - cream
badge - cream
white room - cream

the first tape cassette i ever bought was in the 7th grade (that would have been circa 1985-86 ish). before then i had always bought albums. that cassette was jimi hendrix - are you experienced. however, my favorite hendrix album is axis: bold as love (which is also my favorite hendrix song and one of my all-time favorite songs, period. i think this song is simply brilliant.)

and speaking of hendrix , who could forget stevie ray vaughn's versions of little wing and voodoo chile?

There are few things more enjoyable on this board than Fats reminiscing.

Unfortunately, I haven't listened to any full album of Jimi's besides Are You Experienced. Obviously that needs to be corrected some day.

oh and my Stevie Ray Vaughan contribution:

probably the music that most reminds me of growing up in West Oz is ACDC with Bon Scott

Being a little rough around the edges but pretending to be smooth for a girl

Rosie is actually a real lady from Tasmania that Bon met once on tour. She was a little big boned, but apparently the sex was that good that Bon really developed a crush on her

I saw some Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, etc. in this thread. I don't know, maybe I'm just too big of a backpacker but I can't get excited about those popular new artists.

It made me come up with my 10 favorite hip hop artists whose careers started post-2000 for you to see who I like:

Celph Titled (had some late 90s stuff with Equilibrium but I won't count that)
Cunninlynguists
Ill Bill (once again I won't count the 12 inch singles that he had with Non Phixion in late 90s)
Action Bronson
Apathy
Joe Budden
Madlib
Joell Ortiz
Reks
Roc Marciano

HM to Cannibal Ox who had one excellent release yet fell of afterwards. El-P's production on The Cold Vein probably could have something to do with it.

shout out to El-P/Company Flow, MF DOOM and all the underground acts who mostly started off in the late 90s yet could be considered a huge part of the last decade.

edit: I just realized Lootpack's album is from '99 but I don't want to take Madlib off the list.

Good job! You sir get a cookie. It was also in the movie 'Clue' starring Tim Curry. One of my favorites as well.

I'm not a fan of Bowie but I've been listening to this song a lot ever since I saw the Walter Mitty film. Absolutely love it now.

Wow you really are a backpacker..how is it possible you like action Bronson and not ghost face? Joell Ortiz is a beast who can't make a decent album to save his life.

Is the ghost face in question really Ghostface Killah? I'm confused but you're probably not talking about GFK.

(Edit: Oooh, ok. You referred to Ghostface because Bronson sounds just like him. Well, I love Ghostface. Who said otherwise? I listed artists who started their careers post-2000.)

You and I share the same opinion on Joell Ortiz then. "Free Agent" could have been the most disappointing album of the last few years. As I wrote after its release:

"I consider Joell Ortiz to be a top5 emcee active right now. His wordplay can be out of this world...

However he completely **** up with the highly anticipated "Free Agent". I don't get how he can spit so many meaningless freestyles that get rotation on Premo's Live from HQ and my PC and then drop such average tracks on this album. He seems to be at his best when just spitting rhymes for no reason (the Slaughterhouse DJ Green Lantern freestyle still blows my mind).

Horrible album for Joell's standards, full of filler. I rather make up a playlist of his unreleased tracks (seriously, why does he have to leak Project Boy, Memories etc. and then release this crap), freestyles and "Farewell Summer" than listen to "Free Agent". 2.5/5"

Haha yeah that's about as backpacker-y it gets lol :D

What's your opinion on Joey Bada$$ Lamar ?

I love this new generation, I think hip-hop it at its best it's been since the mid-90s, there's just so much talent around and there's so much diversity there has to be something for everyone out there.

I'll come back with my top 20 albums or something from the past 5-10 years

EDIT: BTW here's my lastfm in case anyone's interested : http://www.lastfm.fr/user/Tupiik
