The Charlotte Bobcats will target Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson in a potential trade.

Steve Clifford is believed to be fond of Afflalo and Nelson.

Nelson, 32, is entering the final season of his contract at $8 million, but only $2 million of that is guaranteed if Nelson is waived by July 15.

Afflalo, 28, is due to earn $7.5 million next season and has a player option for 2015-16, also valued at $7.5 million.

Man I hope this is wrong unless we are going to trade Henderson and Neal and the 24 and that is it. Anything more is a massive overpay for those guys.

Just posted that in the FA thread. He reports "Clifford is said to be fond of Afflalo," of course nothing concrete.

we could absorb a lot of those contracts with our cap space. however, not sure the magic are looking for salary relief right now. they are probably more interested in that detroit pick.

yeah, that seems like a massive overspend for those two players, who would no doubt make us better.

Afflalo is a solid and consistent player, has decent defensive ability too. I think he and Nelson would bring veteran savvy and leadership to complement Al Jefferson.

Nelson isn't worth the money at all. Afflalo would be a fantastic pickup, but he's only under contract for 1 year. I would be very surprised if it's any more than two of Neal/Hendo/24 for Afflalo. I wouldn't be upset if it was more than that, but I would be very upset if we threw away the Detroit pick for one year of Afflalo.

Afflalo is what everyone expected Henderson to be had he developed his 3-point shot.

If that is the trade Cho needs to be fired and never hired again by anyone. That would be such a bad trade for old average players. That is very short sighted and not designed at building a winner. That is a maybe we can get out of the first round before everyone is told old to play trade. Screw how good we are in 3 years sacrifice it all for a middle of the road playoff team.

It wouldn't be a bad acquisition(s), but I'm under the impression that the front office could do better via free agency and the draft

It makes sense position wise - we're definitely in the market for a starting SG and a backup PG. Not sure about all those $ though.

That trade doesn't work, thankfully. We'd have to add more pieces - likely Neal and Haywood - to make it work. Plus, eating Nelson's contract would be us doing them a favor, so the Detroit pick shouldn't even be discussed.

We trade $11.3m in salary for $16.1m, but we can immediately cut Nelson and drop that number to $10.1m. Plus if we trade the draft pick that's another $1.25m in savings.

Here we go again, a knowledgeable group of fans hungry for young and exciting additions, and we've got to worry that mgmt is about to trade young players and picks with upside for $15 Mln worth of guys nearing the end.

$8 Mln to have 32 year old Jameer Nelson be Kemba's backup PG will make me cry.

i feel like this should be a fall back answer if we dont get the guy we want in FA because nelson is not worth the money at all

Youth movement. They have 2 top 12 picks this year! They're about to draft the likes of Jabari Parker, Dante Exum or Marcus Smart, plus Gary Harris, Doug McDermott or James Young to add to their young core of Harkless, Harris, Vucevic & Olidipo. They'll want to give those guys as much pt as possible. I'm sure Nelson will be the price we have to pay to get the guy we really want, Afflalo.

But here's my other concern. They might go after Afflalo & Nelson because Clifford likes them? Who does that sound like? Right, Larry Brown. What coach doesn't prefer veterans to youngsters? If this happens it will damage the mancrush I have on Clifford.

Aging veteran that's not a part of their future plan. Considering his talent, pedigree, and résumé, Afflalo is a above solid asset for them moving forward

They signed CDR because Clifford had a previous relationship with him from the Lakers. It also appeared that the Ridnour-Neal deal was something that Clifford favored as well. I'm concerned too
