He is probably the best overall fit we could draft, in my humble opinion.

His defense reminds of James Harden.

He's quick on the floor unlike Henderson, McRoberts and Al Jefferson. We have too many flat footed players who plod along.

He's a sharp shooter unlike Kemba, Hendo, MKG, McRoberts and most of our bench. He'd be every bit as effective as McDermott with wide open threes. It's his ball handling abilities that will help him make better use of wide open spaces.

His BBIQ and passing ability is on par with McDermott.

He's like a quicker version of McDermott at a position of greatest need.

If you're a McDermott guy I don't see how you could be against this guy.

Both will have major question marks on defense. But since MKG would be his wing partner, you know the rest.

it will take MKG only 1 quarter to foul out of the game?

Stauskas tested really well at the combine. In terms of overall athleticm his numbers were better than Harris and Smart's. James Young only competed in the vertical jumps and his numbers were identical to Stauskas'. More importantly Stauskas is the most skilled player out of the guards in this draft class. His lightning quick release and ability to pull up on a dime and nail shots reminds me a lot of Curry (who he has said he models his game after). He also has great court vision and passing abilities. If we stay at 9 I'm leaning towards Nik being my guy.

That wouldn't be anything that we aren't already used to.

James Young had a groin injury at the combine, so I would assume they truly are not on par.

I like Stauskas. I like Young better, but I wouldn't be upset with the Stauskas pick. If he doesn't pan out as a starting 2, which some think that he is really a 1, but without the vision. I really feel he can be the first guy off the bench, combo guard, Jamal Crawfordish without the handles, and light the scoreboard up on certain nights. I guess it just depends if you are willing to live with that at #9.

I like Young too, but he's not done growing and his true position will end up being at small forward. If we're commited to building around Kemba and MKG in the backcourt I don't think Young should be the pick. His handles are too limited and his defensive awareness needs a lot of work. As for Stauskas his offensive game is the perfect fit between Kemba and MKG, the question is if he can adequately defend his man to the point that he isn't a liability. If he can he starts, if not he's our sixth man just like you said.

The problem is none of the wings in our range can defend currently (with the exception of Harris). Lavine is just as clueless as Young is on the defensive end and Stauskas really hasn't shown much ability there. Thankfully MKG gives us the luxury of drafting a guard who struggles defensively at this point in time. As long as we believe we can coach them up on that end of the court I think it's a risk that we're prepared to cover for.

Do not want..his combine numbers dont translate on the court. he does not have great lateral quickness and it shows on defense. this kid is Kyle korver which is not the worse thing in the world but if we I like young better and i think mcdermott has some of the same issues but is a even better scorer.

Once McBob opts out we'll only have one.

Either way that's a silly reason not to draft someone. McDermott, Stauskas, Saric, and Nurkic will all likely be in consideration at 9.

I really like Stauskas. He fills our biggest need, which is a 2 than can light up the scoreboard. He can be a secondary ball handler and would be a perfect fit beside MKG. We don't need a lockdown defender at the 2 because we have MKG. If Clifford can just get him to work hard and give great effort we'll be fine.

My biggest knock, or shall I say question mark on Stauskas is whether or not he could consistently defend the shooting guard position. Michigan placed Stauskas on the opposing team's weakest offensive player throughout the past two seasons. I'm almost for certain that Stauskas won't be All-Star caliber in the NBA, but he'll have a J.J. Redick type of productive career. I like Stauskas, and wouldn't be mad at the pick if he were selected, but I think there are better options

Stauskas need the ball in his hands. He was Michigan's de facto PG this past year. He was just a role player off the ball wheh Burke was there, but a good role player might I add. I'm not high on picking him because I wouldn't entrust him with the ball that much. I'm on the Young bandwagon and I'm sticking to it.

Lol hey im just being honest. Theres only like 2 white guys in the NBA who are game changers, im not really liking our odds. Besides I want us to sign Lance.

Good point. That's why I stated that he'd have a similar career trajectory to J.J. Redick (not comparing style of play) whereas he'd be just a slightly above average role player without the ball in his hands

Stauskas is indeed a de facto point guard, and his ceiling could be Goran Dragic, whom I would consider his best NBA comparison

There are more than just two really good white players in the league. And if it makes you feel any better Stauskas is actually Lithuanian, a country that has a great track record for producing good NBA players.

I like him after James Young. Two questions with him. Can he get his shot against NBA 2's? Guys like Stephenson, Beal, Thompson, Danny Green, Iman Shumpert and Wes Matthews will chase you off the three point line. So his ability to make shots on the move or off the bounce is critical. My next question is, can he guard anyone? Hornets play good team defense, so if he truly is lights out at this level, I'd love to see him in a uniform.
