Poll: Trade or keep pick 9?

Post#1 » by MasterIchiro » Wed May 21, 2014 7:12 pm

Earl (Durham, NC): First Hornets question please tell me they keep both picks and get 2 shooters

Chad Ford (1:30 PM): Sounds like they are shopping this pick as well. They shouldn't. This is a nice way for them to add some young talent and I agree -- shooters would be great. Doug McDermott is an obvious fit. Nik Stauskas, Gary Harris, James Young, Rodney Hood, PJ Hairston. This is an area the team really needs help with and there are some really good options in this draft.

Possible players @ 9

Doug McDermott
Nik Stauskas
James Young
Gary Harris
Zach LaVine
(other)

Possible trade targets

Dion Waiters
Jeremy Lamb
Tim Hardaway Jr.
Gordon Hayward
Chandler Parsons
(other) - will be updated with new players based on feedback. Just toss me the names.

I'll vomit if we trade the 9 pick for any of the players you listed except maybe lamb

Keep the damn pick

Use our assets to trade up from 9 into the top 6 or 7.

If not, then select one of McDermott, Lavine, Stauskas, Harris, or Young.

One scenario where Exum goes to the Hornets...

Cavs select - Wiggins
Bucks select - Parker
Sixers - Would they consider the right to draft Embiid best value when they have Noel at C??? And would they consider Exum untouchable when they have MCW???

Pick 3 is attainable.

Pick 4 seems to flexible as well since the Magic need a PG most of all but can get one at 12.

I really think we will see some teams move up in this draft and we are a top candidate. We have picks and young players.

I voted to keep the pick because trading it for a player like Lamb or Hardaway Jr seems like such a huge waste. If we were trading to move up to get a good player I am fine with it though.

Keep pick and take James Young, McDermott or Stauskas. Those are the only three picks that actually make sense for the Hornets to get at this point.

I'm worried they are going to trade the pick for a "win now" player like Afflalo.

The talent pool at 9 is hot enough to draw interest of GM's offering a better return than Afflalo, imo

Trading it for Tim Hardaway Jr. would be a huge waste because there's players that are just as good that'll be available at #24 like P.J. Hairston, Jordan Adams, and C.J. Wilcox, but trading it for Jeremy Lamb has just as much value as drafting a current prospect there. Lamb is only 21 years old, and just as young as some of the players in this draft class like Hairston and Rodney Hood (who are both 21, soon to be 22 this year), and younger than Wilcox (23 years old)

Perhaps but couldn't you argue Hardaway Jr. is more proven than Jeremy Lamb?

Lamb isn't worth the 9th pick in the draft, his value isn't that high at all, he wasn't even the 9th pick in his draft

I would trade the 24 for Lamb. But like you said we could get similar players there so trading the nine is a huge overpay for OKC's bench guys.

Hell no. Why? Just because he received consistent minutes on a burning ship of a team called the New York Knicks that might've been the biggest disappointment of the year?

Lamb had just as good of a season than Hardaway Jr. on a team where there isn't no other offensive options besides Durant or Westbrook

Not straight up, he probably isn't worth it from a negotiating standpoint, but in a packaged deal I would do it

Yu could make that argument. I think I lean Lamb as slightly better but the difference is not so huge that I would call someone crazy for saying the opposite.

What package? Problem is 21 does not cut it and they have no other pieces they are going to give up that hold any value.

What about selecting McDermott and dangling either McDermott + Henderson or MKG + Henderson for a sign & trade for Parsons?
