Lost in the Dario - The Dario Saric Thread

Lost in the Dario, I walked like an Injun,
So Carlo won't suspect that somethings wrong here,
I dance in place, and paint my face,
and act like I belong here
Throw back the little ones,
and pan fry the big ones,
you tact poise and reason
and gently squeeze them

for the record, i have no interest in saric. too risky for my blood. i'll let someone else with bigger balls take him in the top 10. hey looks like a really nice player though...

I know nothing about him and don't want to draft him because I want to draft a player I saw in college. Is that so wrong?

i might warm up to him a tad, IF he can come over and play this year, with little buyout issues and if he seems like he wants to be here.
nothing could be worse than drafting a euro, who wont come over for a while, might not want to be in charlotte (because he knows nothing about it).

This is a big time sleeper pick.

I'd be surprised if Saric is starting material right off the bat. He averaged as many turnovers as he did assist (3.3 to 3.4). Don't want.

i think it's easy to overrate turnover rates for young players. not necessarily a sign of impending doom. and you can live with an inflated turnover rate if the player is productive in the NBA.
that said, yeah, i would need assurances that Saric is going to start his NBA career now to pull the trigger. the comparison du jour for him is nowitzki, but i don't see that. he's got a good stroke but not that extra length that often makes all the difference with dirk. still, i can totally see skills there for a borderline all-star upside. maybe even more if he matures just so.

Saric is an interesting player. Really unlike any I've seen the past few years. He has a very unique skillset. Ultimately, he's just too risky to take at 9. You're talking about a guy who has little athleticism, an inconsistent shooting stroke, and is a poor finisher at the rim. Combine that with the unknown of when he's coming over, and it's just way too risky. He's either boom or bust. I do like Saric and hope he succeeds. But you just can't take him at 9.

No euros with the 9th pick too much of a risk

My report on him from the lottery mafia:
http://thelotterymafia.com/2014-nba-draft/dario-saric-the-croatian-stat-stuffer-comes-stateside.htmlHe has super role player potential. If we didn't have Zeller already I'd be on board because hopefully Zeller improves to make having Dario redundant. I'll say this, we would have been a better team this year with Saric instead of Zeller b/c Saric can do everything Zeller can do except jump. Way, way better passer and ballhandler (point forward) and his shot looks better than Z's considerably too.

I wouldnt just arbitrarily write this kid off. He was absolutely dominant in this year's Adriatic league final 4 against fairly high level competition.
Everyone, me included, thought Dallas were fools back in the 90s when they drafted a cant miss prospect in Robert Tractor Traylor and proceeded to trade him to Milwaukee for the draft rights to some unknown German Kid named Dirk.
The Hornets should at least conduct their due diligence and have Saric in for a group workout. If he blows their socks off and its clear he'll be able to report come fall, he should be in the mix. If he's just so-so, the safe thing to do is pass as he could just as easily be the next Nikoloz Tskitishvili or a wasted pick on someone who never comes over due to buyout or personal issues (Fran Vasquez).

Are all of the Euro's for sure coming over this year? Do not want a Rubio situation on our hands.

I think Saric could be a really nice player in this league, but the Fact he may not come over scares me. I do not want to take anyone in the Lottery that may be a year or 2 away from playing for us. Also, I think even when he comes over it will be a pretty big adjustment for him and may take him a few years to find his own.
Not saying I don't think he could be good, but I think I would just rather let another team take a chance on him and see how it plays it out.

My guess is that Dario will come over asap just to get away from his alcoholic father. The one thing that's for sure about Saric, he wins just about everywhere he goes.

1. Piece of cake for Mark Price. Dario was 5/8 for 3 in Adriatic finals, that's some potential

. His jumper might gonna get even elite.
2. Will do. He's only 20 with no pro basketball behind him, until previous season (and his first pro season he wins everything versus all odds)
3. He played with bunch of non-payed nobodys in Cibona and it was all on him. Focal point of Cibonas game, although the youngest player on court. Reportedly he was the driving force in the locker room, who made underpayed and broken down team win the league. Result: he wins everything in pro competition vs. some Euroleague clubs.
Satisfying scenario: Hornets pick Dario, he stays for another year, playing Euroleague and getting better, while McBob does his thing at Charlotte, and then following season Hornets swap McBob for Dario, who is kinda same type of player, but with more talent and upside.
With Dario being versatile team player he is, I think he might even contribute if he came over immediately, and based on his interviews in Adriatic media, he is very keen to join NBA
