McBuckets or Stauskas?

Poll says it all. I'm on the fence - Nik potentially solves our SG issue, but McD is a great fit with Al on O and allows us to upgrade SG via free agency.
Both have defense issues that could potentially keep them out of a long term starting role.
Thoughts?
ETA: I went with McDermott because he could provide a major scoring punch on the second unit and he'll have Biz to help him on the block. That may be some seriously flawed logic though.

This is a difficult one for me, because I have McDermott one spot up on my shortlist from Stauskas. Stauskas is intriguing because I want a Henderson replacement as soon as possible, but I think McDermott's style of play that doesn't require him to be ball dominant makes him more ideal in my eyes even if it does mean stealing minutes from MKG
I'll go with McDermott as a great change of pace hybrid forward 6th man since he doesn't have a position, but he'll be productive without a doubt in my mind

The way I see it, they are similar because they both are elite shooters with concerns on how they will be able to defend. I would give the edge to Stauskas because of his ball handling and passing. Both of them are going to be able to spot up and run off screens to score. But Stauskas can handle the ball in the pick and roll, create for himself and for others. McDermott isn't that type of player. Then you add in that we have a bigger need at SG and it gives Stauskas the edge by an even larger margin.
It's close. But Stauskas is the better fit.

don't want either but if I had to choose, I'd go with Stauskas.

Instant offense. Both are going to score from 3 when set up on a double team on Al Jefferson. What sets Nik apart from McDermott is he's a playmaker and will make his teammates better in addition to benefiting from the double teams on Al. MKG is a SF and McDermott loses value at PF. Nik should be drafted regardless if they plan to sign a SG like Lance Stephenson because he's a great hedge if Lance rejects the Hornets or of the Hornets are not interested. Nik is most likely SG to oust Henderson earlier than later. I don't want to wait on this one. If Lance signs, oh well, we have a sixth man in Stauskas who gives depth at SG and PG which to me is more important than SF and PF given our roster.

McDermott, but barely. Would be happy with either.

I just have visions of McD camped out on the perimeter feeding Al in the post. We are not going to find another 4 that has McD's perimeter shooting ability. Think about how McRoberts was able to either blow open games or keep us in them when he was hitting from outside. Now think about if we had a 4 that has like 5X the outside shooting ability.
I think a big question mark for McD is whether he'll be able to set up teammates and create some offense for others. He wasn't asked to do that at all in college, but 1.5 assists per game in college isn't exactly heart warming. If he's going to fit in with out starters, creating for others is a must.

I have visions of Stauskas feeding Al because he's the better passer.
With Nik we get the luxury of the team finding him off an Al double team but we also get the benefit of Nik finding someone when they're rushing the perimeter or collapsing on Kemba.

I just have visions of having a legit wing player who can shoot that orange ball into a basket from long range.

I don't view McDermott as a 4. He's a 3 unless you want to play super small.

I want McDermott. If he's gone, I'll be glad to have Stauskas.

I'm imagining a unrealistic possibility that Clifford will talk to the Van Gundy's and Thibodeau this summer, and he'll return next season as a more flexible coach with his rotations, whereas if McDermott was drafted by Charlotte he would use him in the game at the same time as MKG during important stretches of the game and the Hornets become a above average offense to compliment their above average defense with a '50 wins' season because of it

High on them both and with Aaron Gordon's stock seemingly on the rise, both of them may well end up being the finalists for the #9.
I'd be happy with either but my preference hinges on Charlotte's broader plans for the overall roster:
If Charlotte truly intends to make a run at Stephenson with a big $ offer as has been widely speculated, I'd give the edge to McDermott as the better fit as he and Stephenson complement each other well given McDermotts propensity for off-ball scoring and stephenson's court vision.
If Charlotte has no intention of pursuing lance, and if they do not plan on bringing in a starting caliber SF to challenge MKG's minutes, Stauskas makes the most sense since the roster would once again be lacking shooting and facilitation from the wings.

If McDermott can play the 4, I see no reason that Stauskas couldn't play with Stephenson or another SG in a small lineup. Though Clifford may not allow anything deviating from a traditional lineup.

Shouldn't Stauskas win this rather easily since he was higher on the boards' Hornets Big Board?

Stauskas voters already won the big board debate so they won't all participate.

So Stauskas already won, and this thread is (sorry OP) rather a useless plug to voice one's opinion on how much he'd prefer McDermott over Stauskas

He wanted a do-over. Don't count though. Big board's up permanently.

Felt like putting a point on the debate, as I have sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a popular topic for the next three weeks.
ETA: plus this is just head to head, whereas big board allowed votes to be for other players. Not the same. Stauskas only took 16 of 38 votes for #8 on the big board.

I like McDermott over Stauskas too even though I like both. I'm fearful that Stauskas won't be as productive of a player without the ball being in his hands as much as it was during his sophomore year at Michigan, because I watched a lot of his freshman season as a Trey Burke fan and he never really struck me as a game changer 'off the ball', but that's not to say he wasn't good, just not a player that I'd expect to take the NBA by storm. However, it would be wrong for me to judge Stauskas by one season as a freshman, but it leave me skeptical, and that's why I'm higher on McDermott who had been killing the collegiate level to 20-plus points since his freshman year
