Who is Troy Daniels?

I thought I knew every NBA player, but all of a sudden this guys name is popping up as an under the radar type FA, so I had to look him up. 6'4 sg from VCU, played for Rockets last year; small sample size, but his numbers are silly: 48% from 3 and scored 17 points in 21 minutes in a playoff game vs Portland. In that game he shot 80% from 3 (4-5). :o Why aren't we going after this guy, when shooting is our biggest weakness?

The dude nearly saved the Rockets' season in the playoffs. Hit an enormous shot that won them a game. haha.

He actually played for our SL team last year.

Would've made a great 3rd string PG for Charlotte had Cho/Higgins had the brass to go with the relative unknown over Jannero Pargo. It's obvious that they evaluated him highly from the onset, but they let their foot off the gas in training camp

Wow, I've been watching this team for years and didn't know he was on the SL team. Is he an sg or pg, because he's listed as a 6'4 sg on ESPN.

Both; a combo guard, but probably best described as a undersized SG

I looked up his stats, he averaged 1 apg. Plus, I don't think 6-4 205 is that undersized.

He's probably 6'4" with extra cushioning in his sneakers. The listed height is being generous

Edit: He's 6'3.75" without shoes. Pardon me, but he look small in stature

Grantland ran a great article last year on Daryl Morey's experiment with their Rio Grand Valley D League Team, called The Amazing Pace, http://grantland.com/features/nba-dleag ... asketball/ where the team tried to get up as many 3 pt shots as quickly as possible. Daniels figured into this. The thing is, while he was a good 3 pt shooter in college, don't know he would have got the green light in CHA or anywhere else than RGV to showcase he could contribute:

Though he had a nice career as a 3-point specialist at Virginia Commonwealth University, averaging 12.3 points last year as a senior while shooting 40 percent from 3, few scouts saw Daniels in the NBA. Now, though, he’s sixth in the D-League in scoring, at 22.8 points per game. Shooting 40.3 percent from distance, he leads the league in 3-pointers made per game, with 5.3.

“Of the shooters that I’ve had either on the Vipers or the Rockets, the two best are Steve Novak and Troy Daniels,” Morey says.

Daniels said he’d heard from six or seven NBA teams with interest in signing him, but he hadn’t gotten the big call yet. “In any other system,” says another NBA exec, “I don’t know if he’s playing as well or opening up eyes as much as he is right now.”

Yeah. The kid can shoot. Just applauding Morey's experiment for giving him a shot. We didn't, unfortunately. I would love to replace Neal with a kid like this.
