Kobe says the Hornets 'had no use for me' in '96

Kobe decided to play a little revisionist history game on Twitter, posting:

"On this day 18yrs ago the hornets told me right after they drafted me that they had no use for me and were going to trade me #thanku #lakers"

Except the Hornets were told Kobe wouldn't play anywhere but LA, and we only picked him so we could get a center (Vlade Divac), who helped us win more than 50 games the next two seasons. Kobe is straight-up creating things out of thin air.

All the great ones make up absurd **** to fuel their egos and need to compete. This can be filed under that because he has no idea what he's talking about.

I was looking for a reason to go to the gym today, now I got my motivation. Seriously, what a d*ck. His agent told every team he didn't want to play anywhere else but LA.

Ignorance mixed with arrogance like this is the reason why Kobe has never been accepted or respected by the city of Philadelphia

I've never heard the "nowhere but LA" thing before, but it was well documented that Kobe only wanted to play in a big market team.

Still wonder what would've happened if we would have just kept him. The Hornets might have never left.

I've read a newspaper article from 1996 that quoted Dave Cowens as saying they would play him at point guard.

I was a kid when Kobe got drafted but I never wanted a player more in a draft. Prior to the draft I was hoping kobe had fell to the Hornets. I even told my Mom and all my friends about Kobe. I knew he would be a special player. When Dave Cowens said he was going to trade him for Vlade Divac I was so upset. But I am not sure if us trading Kobe was the WORST thing ever because it took Kobe a while to become a good player. By the time his contract were up I truly feel he would have left the way Alonzo did. I just dont see him resigning here. But throughout the years Kobe has proven that he can BARELY win a ship without Shaq so my answer to Kobe is below

Yeah kobe we had no use for you, unless you were coming in a package deal with Shaq :P

OT - in true off-season fashion the most up-voted topic on reddit yesterday wasn't news about LeBron or Carmelo, but a topic titled "Does Kobe Bryant have friends?"

Surprisingly enough, it did provide some interesting answers. Per example, presumably one of his best friends, Derek Fisher, has never even been in Kobe's house. From the articles the members of the reddit community provided his team-mates just don't ever get the chance to visit him there.

The man lives and breathes basketball. You might have a relationship with him in the arena, but after that he's a stranger.

Well by trading him he is technically correct other than using him as a transaction in a trade.

Yeah he's dead on. I'm sure we sat him down, said "we have no use for you," and sent him on his way without provocation.

What's weird is that, if this happened a few months ago, it's a jab at the Pelicans.

Use self motivation, and a friend system instead of using any type of anger motivation.

I've looked and this is (I believe) a board record for number of views, and its hilarious because this is a single page thread.

The only one that comes close is the "Charlotte signs Jefferson" thread, and even then its not that close.

Can anyone find a thread with more views? Would be a fun game to pass time.

As for the topic at hand, I could care less about Kobe and don't even want to waste the effort posting about it

Everyone knows that Kobe is full of it.

It's a shame that he has to slander the Hornets for some cheap attention, but what else is he to do when nobody is talking about him?
