I understand that Gordon is a good player and someone most teams would want. But overpaying RFA's is the worst way to go. It usually only works out when you have the opposing team up against the cap:
CHO:
Came after Millsap when he was at Portland, we matched.
The next year he came after Wesley Matthews and that is one of the few RFA's worth keeping in the last 5 years that the home team passed on. Why, we were already in the Tax because of the overpay to Millsap the year before, and we just couldn't match.
We were always going to match Hayward and everyone knew it. Why offer the money when you know the team is going to match. CHo should have spent his time during this Free Agency going after Unrestricted guys! I get going after RFA's only in the situation where you can hurt a division or conference foe, or if the team you do it to is pursuing a second FA that both of you want. In the case of Hayward that didn't exist. In the case of Parsons that was the case. Dallas wanted to hurt their Texas rival and they know they are going to match.
If Cho didn't offer Hayward, no one would have. Look around the market, it wasn't going to come from anyone else. Phoenix would have been the only team that would have considered it, but they couldn't and the reason why is simple but long.
Only Cho...could screw this up.....and he did! Cho further solidified his idiocy by paying an injured Marvin Williams $7M per. We were offering $3M per because he is a great veteran presence, but he is on his last legs. He is coming off an achiles issue and our Radio voice said all season he couldn't believe Marvin was out their playing because when he watched him after every game he walked around hobbling like an old man. Our radio voice guy said that the Jazz wanted Marvin back, but that they likely wouldn't pay more than $3M because they don't think his body is going to hold up.
Cho is an idiot.

Maybe Karl Malone would have won a world title wrestling! Oh wait...

Marvin must have been OK for you to come and act like such a moron. Thanks for making us feel better.

Now I feel way better about making you guys give the max to Hayward.

I would say the idiot is the guy running the front office that thinks it's smart to tell everyone you will match any offer and actually be telling the truth. That's ridiculously dumb for the reason Cho just showed you. Enjoy that contract. Maybe next time your stupid front office will keep their mouths shut. your team owns the worst contract of free agency by far. You got played. The dumb GM is yours and you can't even see it. lol.
