Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors are excited about another season with star point guard Stephen Curry leading the way, but they may have some concern about his future in Oakland.
Curry talked last week on The Doug Gottlieb Show about potentially going back to his home team and playing at some point in his career. It was very obvious that Curry is intrigued with the idea, and could end up doing that when his next contract rolls around.
“I’ve always had thoughts about playing at home, what it would be like,” Curry said, via Diamond Leung of Inside the Bay Area. “My dad played there for 10 years, and people around the Greater Charlotte area in North Carolina have done a lot for my family growing up, so you always think about it. Right now I feel like I’ve got three years left on my deal, so this isn’t going to be an issue for me for a while. I love the Bay Area and where we are as a team trying to win a championship, and that’s what it’s all about. Of course everybody dreams about or thinks about what it’s going to be like to play at home. Obviously if that opportunity comes along it’s a different discussion.”
Those are the type of quotes that can concern a franchise about the future of their star players. Curry is obviously looking ahead to that potentiality, and if it presented itself it seems like he would be more inclined to return home than stay with the Warriors. That being said, it’s hard to know exactly what he’s thinking off of those recent quotes.
Curry has been improving steadily since coming into the NBA, and had the best all-around season of his career last season. He averaged 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. There is no question that he has become one of the most dangerous scorers in the NBA, but he has also improved his playmaking ability to force defenses to respect that area of his game as well.
All of that being said, the draw to play at home is obviously on Curry’s mind and he has thought about it in the past. It would take some things happening and falling into place for it to come about, but it’s not necessarily out of the question. The Hornets are currently happy with young point guard Kemba Walker, and they just signed Lance Stephenson as well to go along with Al Jefferson.
Overall, the Warriors will have to work hard to lock Curry up to another extension before this deal ends in a few years. He is too important to what they’re trying to do, and if they lose him, they can kiss their championship hopes goodbye. They are a very young team that is moving the right direction with a young star leading the way, but it is a bit unnerving that he has thought about playing elsewhere already.

it's the first time I've heard of this "sportsglory" site so I'll just post what InsideBayArea has on this matter to add more legitimacy. don't take this the wrong way though, Kaorto, great find by you.

Warriors guard Stephen Curry indicated Tuesday in an interview on The Dan Patrick Show that he believes he is the better offensive player compared to Cleveland's LeBron James.

Asked by Patrick who is the better offensive player, Curry said he had never before been asked that question.

"Me," Curry then said, chuckling. "Gotta be, right?"

Told the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player James is the better scorer and that Curry is the better shooter, Curry said, "I don't know because he obviously demands a lot attention on the floor, but I like to say I can distribute, get my teammates involved and be a playmaker as well."

Patrick then asked Curry how he'd answer the question if in a game it'd be a contest of which player could score more points, and the 6-foot-3 point guard again expressed confidence.

"I'd like to say my shot would help me in that situation," said Curry, who averaged a career-high 24 points per game and led the NBA with 261 made 3-pointers. "If I get a double-team, I could hopefully shoot from farther out."

James, a 6-foot-8 forward, was third in the NBA averaging 27.1 points per game last season for Miami.

Curry in an apparent response to the attention his comments received tweeted, "That's funny. Anything is news these days lol."

Curry told Patrick he was surprised James left the Heat to return to play for his hometown team in the Cavaliers, but added, "I'm sure there's no better feeling than going home."

The subject was raised to Curry on The Doug Gottlieb Show last week when asked if watching what James did would lead him to consider playing for his hometown Charlotte Hornets.

"I've always had thoughts about playing at home, what it would be like," said Curry, who is in the middle of a four-year, $44 million contract extension with the Warriors. "My dad played there for 10 years, and people around the Greater Charlotte area in North Carolina have done a lot for my family growing up, so you always think about it.

"Right now I feel like I've got three years left on my deal, so this isn't going to be an issue for me for a while. I love the Bay Area and where we are as a team trying to win a championship, and that's what it's all about. I won't get excited about this possibility until the offseason after next though, his contract is for another 3 years.

Doh, saw in that article that he "is in the middle" of his deal and assumed that mean he was two years in. Bummer.

It's just a fun thing we Hornets fans like to dream of. He wanted to be in Charlotte to begin with, fam is huge fans of Jordan. Davis is also best friends with MKG and it has been rumored they want to play together again. We will more than likely be in need of his position at that time too. The issue is he would technically still be under the Pelicans control as a possible restricted free agent unless he takes the Qualifying Offer (I might have that part mixed up though).

Yes, if he refused the extension and take the QO he can become a free agent in 2017. But man, that is a heck of a lot of money to turn down. But I'm never mad at small markets competing. Better for the league.

How bad ass would it be if Curry signed with us in 2017 and we have all-star weekend in Charlotte that year as well?

assuming the impossible, that anthony davis was hellbent on playing for the hornets

could we offer anthony davis a 2 year, 30 mil deal when he is an RFA, with a player option after 1 year - knowing that the pelicans match the deal. Davis then, opts out after one year, hits the free agent market in 2017, but also gets to play 2016 for 15mil instead of whatever his qualifying offer would be and at least gives him some flexibility if he changes his mind or gets hurt.

That would be an extremely creative way to circumvent the "QO vs. long-term financial security" choice that RFA was designed to force players to face. The Pelicans would likely accuse us of collusion, and that essentially is exactly what it is, so they could make a decent case to the league. Assuming the commissioner didn't overrule it for "basketball reasons" I would think New Orleans would immediately begin negotiating for a sign and trade.

There is also the risk that even though NO would be forced to trade him at that point, they might intentionally ship him somewhere other than Charlotte where he would also likely resign. Davis would have to be hellbent on being a Hornet for us to get him within the next 5 years, unfortunately.

On the subject of Steph Curry, I would bring him on board without a moments hesitation. The team's biggest weakness is shooting, and he's arguably the best pure shooter of his generation. MKG/Lance/Biz would also help hide his deficiencies at the defensive end. Even if Curry comes on at the end of his career I wouldn't be against it. Spot-up shooters generally age well and the fans would eat it up.

Not a good idea he will be broken down by the time he wants to join another team with those glass ankles.
