Out of all the top draftees this is the one guy I really do not want!
With feet like boats and knees like door hinges he is somewhere between lumbering around and injuries waiting to happen. Reports are he "changed his running stride." Right, in a few weeks time he changed the way he runs. DO NOT TOUCH!

Some of the advanced stats love this guy. ;)

part of me is interested because he is a shot blocker that can also stretch the floor, the other part doesn't want to touch him

He is possibly the worst fit for us in the draft. Too small to play Center and we already have two stretch Pfs.

Also, he has mobility issues with his running style. I would expect either the Pacers to grab him or WCS if they are available to install that smaller ball type of basketball with a more athletic big than Hibbert.

Maybe the guy I want the least....

I'm getting sucked in by this guy. Check out this video that has clips of his workout and the audio is him giving an interview. Sounds like a smart kid that understands the game. Looks like his wingspan is a legit 7'4" and he already weighs 240 at just 19 years old. With his height, length, rim protection skills, and the fact that he already has solid weight but looks like he could add more, I think he could be a legit center option.

I really don't know what to make of his running issue. Here is a great piece on it. Honestly I think I'd trust the opinion of team doctors on it and if they are ok with it and confident that it won't be an issue, I wouldn't worry about it.

he is definitely a center IMO. i think he can contribute early, 15mpg stretch the floor and play defense.

Aha! Just as I suspected! He has weak gluteus medius that cause excessive pronation!

Where were these docs when Adam Morrison was shuffling around the court like he was wearing rusty roller skates?

:o :o :o I think if we are at #9 and Kaminsky is on the board,we will pick him over Turner..Otherwise it will be best available player....Herzoja Johnson

You know, Turner at #9 might not be bad.

A partnership of Noah and Turner at the 4 and 5 for the next 10 years could cause havoc for other teams at both ends of the floor.

Only problem I see with Turner is that he seems like another long-term project. Could be 2-4 years before he is really ready to play starter minutes. We already have 3 long-term projects at PF/C. If we want a big man, would prefer to just get Frank, who can contribute immediately.

My view is that taking less talented players because they are ready to contribute right away is how team's become treadmill teams and limit their potential. BPA all the way unless a player is so raw that he might never be even a decent contributor.

I think Turner could be a serviceable third stringer now.

This guy looks phenomenal . . . from the waist up. Seriously, watch the way he moves around the floor, even sans defenders. Go to the 1:40 mark and watch him run . . .and this is after he supposedly fixed his gait. There is something funky about his legs. If he's on the Hornets I'm gonna love watching him shoot and block shots . . . while sitting on pins and needles waiting for one or the other of his knees to crumple.

My view is still what I said earlier in this thread - I would rely heavily on medical professionals in assessing his health and proclivity for injuries. If there are question marks there then I would probably stay away, but if it's a minor, easily correctable issue then it's just a bonus because it takes him out of consideration by teams above us.

Get a medical expert that focuses on this area and make the call based on that feedback.

That's totally fair. I guess the other factor for me is the way he shuffles reminds me of Hibbert, and today's NBA seems to be moving toward a faster paced game where players are long, mobile, agile and versatile. Maybe I'm reacting to having to watch Al Jeff slow down all our young studs. I accept Turner's ability to shoot brings versatility, and he has great length, but will he be able to get that shot of his with his lack of mobility and otherwise not cause stagnation? He's certainly not busting out on the break with Cody and MKG. I also recognize your valid argument expressed in other threads that if we rid ourselves of Al Jeff we need someone to score some points, but I'd still rather have a racehorse big like Cauley-Stein.

I think that's a very valid concern, but I also think teams draft centers all the time without going into as deep of a dive into how fast they can get up the floor. Half the bigs in this draft didn't even do the running portions of the combine. I think people are just sensitive to it because of the potential injury issue.

My problem with comparing him to WCS is that WCS is 2.5 years older than Turner. Give Turner 2.5 years of development and I think he will be way, way more valuable than WCS.

Lol imagine we had to go through this degree of scrutiny to get a job: "I'm sorry we can't hire you here at McDonald's because photo imaging we took of you serving cheeseburgers showed excessive pronation of the ulna which could lead to ulnar nerve damage and end your food serving days prematurely."

Knee and Hip Mechanics
The diagrams look at the angles of Turner's upper leg when he's running. An example of the lack of pelvic stability the reports point to can be seen clearly in the first picture, while the second shows a loss of control in his legs in his natural running stride.
