Bulldozer. A lot of really exciting wing prospects in this draft.

If Hezonja doesn't fall to us, I'd take Johnson first, and Oubre would be me second choice.

Not a good fit for our team.

Decent shooter, but I think he is the type of player you want to put his head down and get to the rim. He has a long way to go as far as developing an NBA offensive game. He has a Wade type build, but like Wade he is best 15 feet and in. That takes time to learn how to be good in that range as a SG.

Really tough, strong, good defensively, but not excited about his offensive game at all.

I feel like we would have same issues with him that we do with Hendo.

He could be a better Tony Allen if he is willing to accept that.

I mean Johnson shot 37% from three his freshman year on a pretty large number of attempts. I don't understand why we should treat him at though he has no potential for perimeter scoring.

My question is if somehow both Stanley Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis are both their at 9, who do we take?

He shot a decent percentage yes... but you have to remember that the NBA line is further back and he was not taking a ton of attempts. He won't be MKG like, but I dont want him taking more than 1-2 per game.

Reminds me of Hendo too much. Hendo could make threes in college too.

I wouldn't be mad if we selected him, but I think we could do better.

Meh, that's a bit of a stretch. Hendo's freshman year, he only attempted 25 threes and made only 8. Johnson attempted 112 threes last year.

Not that it matters all that much, but Johnson's freshman year was much more impressive than Hendo's. I think he has much more talent.

I think he could be Luol Deng, he is already a much better shooter/scorer than Allen is/was.

He is nothing like Deng, who was a much better athlete.
I like Johnson as a top10 pick, not for Charlotte, but, if he is the BPA at 9th he should be the pick, you dont really have a back up SF, Marvin is a stretch PF, and Johnson is young and can come in if MKG misses some games.
It is difficult to find a comp for him, but for me he is something between Evan Turner and Ron Artest.

I don't at all agree that Deng was a better athlete. He was longer but his standing vert was just 27.5 and his max was just 31.5 at his combine. Deng was never an elite athlete, he was just heady and long.

Of the two I think Johnson is by far the better athlete.

I think his shooting will be fine, he shot 1.3PPP on catch and shoot jumpers which is very good. Geralds biggest problem is he wont take a three unless he is wide open.

Can Arizona's Johnson improve in NBA?
Arizona's Stanley Johnson is in the top 10 of many mock drafts, and will probably go very high in the first round. But Johnson has yet to officially declare, reportedly looking for assurances he'll go in the top 10 before putting his name in the Draft.
If he does declare, the 18-year-old has got a lot of work to do at the next level despite being named the Pac 12's Freshman of the Year and being a first-team all-Pac 12 selection. He was also a finalist for the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association Wayman Tisdale Award, given to the nation's top freshman.
He's strong going to the basket. Probably can play some wing and two. Solid ballhandler. He can get where he wants to go, especially to create a basket.
– College coach on Stanley Johnson

"I think what people have a concern with him is that he may have plateaued a little bit, as opposed to Winslow," one veteran scout said.
Johnson, who won four straight state titles at storied Mater Dei High in California, is viewed as an undersized three by pro scouts, who aren't sure he's 6-foot-7 as listed by Arizona. Like Winslow, Johnson shot the college 3-pointer well (37 percent), but isn't viewed as a great NBA perimeter threat.
"He's got to work on his stroke a great deal," a Southeast Division scout said. "He's got some strength and some athleticism, but he's got to work on a lot more. I see Stanley more in the three box than the four box. He's not going to post up any ... as far as that being his bread and butter, come on and get me a bucket, that's not what he's going to do. The three is where his advantage is going to be. Every time I've seen him, his biggest thing was facing up. He would go to the mid-post some, but in our league, going down there with fours, I can't see him going down there with LaMarcus (Aldridge)."
Jason Carter
Stanley Johnson has a strong dribble-drive game.
Listed at 245 pounds, Johnson may be a classic tweener -- too small to guard most NBA fours. But he's a cut 245.
"He must have been a (handful) in high school," a Southwest Division executive said. "His body, he's got a (Metta) World Peace type of body. I can't imagine anybody dealing with him in high school. He's strong, he's powerful. He has to work on his shot and I don't know what his work ethic is. I see these mocks in the top 10, but I wouldn't want to pull the trigger.

I pass on a wing that has "to work on his stroke a great deal". We have enough of them.

Plateaued at 19?

And who says "come on and get me a bucket"?

I'm still a fan, currently have him as my 7th ranked prospect. I agree with the above quote saying he's not a 4, he's definitely a wing. He's a pretty good scorer, if he can be a solid 3-point-shooter then I think the fit is solid.

I just don't like tweeners

Johnson isn't a tweener, he has the skillset to play 3 positions SG/SF/PF. Kevon Looney is a tweener not Johnson.

he is actually smaller than i thought, 6' 6.5" with shoes 6-11 wingspan 242lbs. He is barely bigger than MKG.

Well what's he supposed to say? "Yeah I'm good on defense, but I suck on offense and have to refine my jumper a lot"? Every player picked in the lottery is probably going to tell the media they're the best player in the draft.
