Its not that I dont think he will be a very solid defensive big man for a long time, but he really would be a disappointing pick for many reasons. He does nothing to help our offense, shooting and spacing. We just spent back to back top 10 picks on Zeller and Vonleh. We still have a chance to resign Biz who should be fine in the WCS role. The only way this pick makes sense is if they know for sure they dont want Biz back and plan to address the scoring and shooting elsewhere. Even then it feels like such a safe pick, since he would essentially just be replacing Biz in our rotation.

If he is there at 9, I would not mind grabbing him assuming Herzonja isnt available.

If we drafted WCS, we probably would let Biz walk. Which honestly is probably the best thing to do considering he will get more money than he is worth.

WCS takes over Biz role of defender off the bench and plays big minutes behind Big Al. Then at end of season we can re-evaluate the center position and decide if WCS is ready to take over the starting role heading into his sophomore season. If he is then we let Big Al walk away, have our defensive rebounding center who can run the floor and catch lobs, and we spend the money saved on a talented scorer.

He has the chance to be the next DeAndre Jordan if used right, and I think he projects better than Biz does longterm.

I like WCS, but I agree that he'd be a disappointing pick. If the cap wasn't going up dramatically next season and we didn't have tons of salary coming off the books the cap savings argument would have some pull with me, but neither is true.

If we needed help on defense I'd be more interested. With the guys we've drafted I don't expect defense to be an issue for the foreseeable future, barring trades. I'm a believer in BPA, but I think you also have to consider who we have drafted in recent history and WCS is just redundant with our roster.

Jeff Goodman has us taking Trillie Willie in his latest mock. Would post a link, but I'm on mobile.

Would much rather go small and retain Biz than draft WCS, let Biz go, and wait 64 years for him to develop

Doesn't really make a lot of sense for us. I just have a feeling that when we pick at 9 or 10 or 11 or whatever he is going to be the best player sitting there. I really don't care what we do in that case. Draft WCS, okay lets give it a shot. Trade the pick for a future pick, sure whatever. Reach for a Bobby Portis, Myles Turner, Kelly Oubre, Jerian Grant, or Sam Decker, meh, fitting end to a terrible year as a franchise.

I would also be disappointed if we picked him, he doesn't do anything that Biz cant do except defend the perimeter.

I disagree. WCS has demonstrated much better hands, ball control, transition instinct, and has actually made jumpshots in games.

I don't particularly want him ahead of some of the wing prospects in this draft, but I would argue that he's much, much more polished than Biz will ever be. I think he'll eventually be a DeAndre Jordan-esque type of center, and I don't think Biz will ever get to that point.

Agreed

I don't like the Jordan comparison. WCS doesn't have that elite rebounding ability like DeAndre.

Deandre didn't come into the league the way he is today though. DJ was as much of a project as anyone else really...

I don't think that WCS has that kind of frame though. He reminds me a lot more of Chandler tbh, maybe a bit more versatile. But he's a lot smarter as a player than people give him credit for. I don't think we'll retain Biz. There just hasn't been a consistent theme that says we do. And if we don't.... He's a great replacement.

If we take a big while we could not pick wrong with any of the talent that will be available even at 9, I'll be very mad!

He reminds me of Chandler too. I think Clifford would like WCS and can see us drafting him. Depending on who is available I'd draft him just for value in trades.

In the minority, but Stein and Hunter are probably my top 2 right now. Just have a feeling. Will change 30 times from now up till the draft, though

I like WCS but if we spend this offseason getting worse by drafting him to let Biz go I will be pissed. He is a good player but unless we are dumping Al for a shooter and running Biz and WCS out there as centers this pick would be terrible.
