I really like this kid. Unique and very rare skill set for 7'1" player. Dirk and Mirotic come to mind. Prototypical mobility and versatility for today's league. Sweet stroke with deep range. A seven footer who can shoot on the move, even coming off screens? Imagine the versatility afforded a coach with a frontline inclduing Zeller, Biz, Vonleh and Porzingis?

I pray he is off the board by the time we pick.

He is a versatile player who has a lot of strengths, but at the same time he has a lot of red flags.

He is middle school thin, too small to play center, Not super excited about him playing PF...

Add in he is a european player and we have see a lot of these types of players fail.... Jan Vesely scary

He might prove me wrong, but he is the type of player I would rather see somebody else take and watch me be wrong....

I see him having to start off his NBA career as a small forward and then slowly go upwards position-wise.

There is no way he is there at 9th.

I suppose a report on him being brutally bad in the draft combine could make him slide down a bit. Like, him having poor results in weight-lifting. Not likely that it would have him ending up at #9 though.

I mostly agree with this, but I think you might be underrating Philly as a market, at least from a consumer standpoint. The Sixers are a massive basketball franchise that are currently in an ugly slump. Maybe it's semantics, but I dunno. I feel like the public has the Lakers held on this pedestal by Kobe and a rich history while ignoring the fact that Philly is on a much better trajectory than LAL.

Demographically, Philly is, I believe, the fifth or sixth largest city in the States. It's huge. It's at least four times bigger than Charlotte, and the city has a very deep basketball history. Further, they have a chip on their collective shoulders due to the fact that they're seen as a talent feeder to NYC.

If I was a foreign player and trying to decide on where I wanted to land, Philly would be at the top of my list. If Saric had made his mind up before being drafted by the Sixers (especially in their current state where he could really thrive as a singular star), he's either stupid or unbelievably idealistic to the point of stupidity.

As quickly as foreign leagues are expanding, I still can't help but think turning down the NBA regardless of market, is a bad decision if you're given a guaranteed rooking contract. The whole market debate thing is moot to me until Euro/Chinese leagues are able to start competing with the US on an international level.

I'm a Portland Timbers (MLS) fan, but I'm still able to look at PTI and think to myself that they're a middle-tier minor league soccer team at best in Europe. That's just how it is. If Porzingis or Herzonja end up saying they're staying in Europe for another year or two, it's not because they were drafted into a smaller US market, it's either because they aren't ready physically/mentally or they can't dodge previous contract obligations. Maybe both, like Dario.

and if it did, would we really want him if the reports were that bad? kind of a lose-lose on this guy

This kid's game just seems too weird to be utilized effectively by us. We'd tell him to focus on rebounding and setting screens around the ft line.

Draft express has us taking Porzingis. Weird, I thought his stock was rising. I think I would take him over anyone outside of the top 3 and Hezonja. I would try to flip Al for whatever and roll with Cody, Biz, Porzingis, Vonleh. Even if we get stuck with Al we could let Vonleh take the Maxiell spot for a year and then let Al walk.

I think Porzingis seems like the perfect stretch 4 for this team. He would basically play as a SF on offense and be a rim protector on defense. He definitely needs to add at least 15 pounds of strength in his first two years. I'm hoping for one of the Euros to fall to us. Preferably Hezonja. I might be slightly annoyed if they were somehow both available and we took Porzingis.

Glad I'm not the only person who thought about Vonleh playing short stretches at SF for a really large lineup. Still think Bismack starts at center over Zeller in this scenario though. Not sure how much defense Lamar's cousin would give us. Starting to warm on Porzingis just a little bit. I'd consider taking him if he was there, but I'd much rather make a move for Hezonja because holy **** we need wing scoring so bad.
