The Sam Dekker thread

Seems like Dekker's not getting much love here. Oubre and Booker both have their own threads, and Dekker's likely to be drafted around the same time as Oubre, probably ahead of Booker.

Great athlete, good handles, solid jumper, good size, playmaker, very polished. Another great wing prospect in a draft that's absolutely loaded with them.

I don't particularly enjoy being "that guy," but I can't help but compare Dekker to Hezonja. After Winslow, I think there's a tier of SG/SFs who are widely classed together. As potential point guards, Mudiay and Russell are excluded. But as far as Hezonja, Oubre, Booker, and Dekker (et al.) are concerned, I can't help but ponder the differential between Hezonja, who is widely considered the best wing prospect in the 6-lottery area, and Dekker. Sam Dekker possesses similar athleticism, play style, mechanics, and overall competency. Is the talent gap between Dekker and Hezonja THAT significant, or would we be looking at Dekker differently if he was a Euro/if Hezonja was a college player.

I look at the two players and come away with the same impression: Superb athletes with well-refined basketball IQ who may have been scouted in the wrong circumstances.

Anybody remember Kieth Van Horn? Dekker seems kind of old school to me. Like our team, built for the 90s, right? If he were wetter from 3 . . . ?

But comparing Hezonja and Dekker, Dekker seems to have a more deferential personality. I expect him to have a Mike Dunleavy kind of career, where it takes him a few years to settle in, then has a long, fruitful career as a valuable complimentary player.

Whereas, if Hezonja's talent matches what appears to be an Alpha Dog ego, then he will be a star.

To me Dekker looks like a better dribbling but less explosive leaping version of Gerald Henderson.

Dekker is a soid player, but he will never be a top 3 player on a team. The only reason he is getting touted as a high draft pick is because he had a great run to end the season when he got hot in a few tournament games. He underachieved pretty much every year at Wisconsin and always seems to take a backseat role.

He would be a good versatile player off the bench, but I would not want to try to build around him.

Yeah, I don't want him at all unless we move back to like 15 or later. I'm really not seeing the alleged "great athleticism" at all and he doesn't even shoot that well. The section of his draftexpress video that was supposed to highlight his quickness and athleticism was a bunch of clips of him barely getting any separation and then making a layup or getting fouled without finishing. I'd be pretty pissed if we drafted this guy.
