How much would be too much?
He'd be a perfect fit here.

He would be a perfect fit here, but didn't he have a pretty nasty (no pun intended) injury? Can't remember / too lazy to look it up. Maybe that will lower his value some.

He is out of our price range unless Al opts out.

No one knows how much he'll sign for with that injury. Very unfortunate for him.
I'd guess he signs a cheap one year deal to prove his leg is ok, then makes bank when the cap goes up and he can pick who he wants to play for.

Al would have to opt out or we'd have to find a sucker to take Marvin or Lance for pure cap space for this to even be possible. He would be the perfect fit if not for the Achilles tear though. Even better than Middleton.

I wouldn't doubt if he would want to take a one year deal to prove he can play off the injury. Maybe even two. If that's the case I wouldn't doubt it's less money. Maybe he falls into our range.
What is our cap space this year depending on the opt ins?

If everyone opts in.. Almost zilch. Henderson opt out gives us 6. If we let Biyombo go that's what? 4.5 or so?
I think we could make an offer, but I don't think he'll leave Portland.
BlackOutBuzz would know way more.

As I recall, based on the projected cap numbers we'd have less than $1.5m if everyone opts in. That's with 11 players. As long as we don't completely trade our first round pick while not taking on salary, we'll be over the cap by free agency with at least 12 players (13 with our second roun...I can't even finish that, we'll trade it for cash).
Best we can do, should everyone opt in and we're over the cap, is offer the mid-level exception, which should be around $5.5 million annually.

What about if Henderson opts out and we don't sign Biyombo? Does that leave 11ish mill?

I'll break it down a bit more: As of now the estimated salary cap is $67,100,000. With our 11 players under contract, we're at $65,676,979. The ninth pick scale amount is $2,177,100, and we'll have a cap hold of that amount (putting us over the cap) until we officially sign him. It should be noted that something like 95% of first round picks get 120% of the scale amount, so in this case $2,612,520.
Hendo opting out would net us an extra $6m. Biz is not one of the 11 under contract, so his amount has no bearing outside of the cap hold (which isn't a big issue as we'll most likely be operating over the cap anyway). So...
Current cap: $67,100,000
Current salary: ($65,676,979)
Rookie salary: ($2,612,520)
Hendo opt out: $6,000,000
Net cap space: $4,810,501
So no, only about $4.8 million should we keep the pick.

And once again you're truly the man at the cap stuff. Great post.

I do not see Portland letting him get away, especially if they lose out on Aldridge.
I agree he would be a good pickup for us, but I think he is worth more than we can offer.

I still think that it's fairly likely that Lance will get stretch provisioned in terms of cap space. However I'm not as bullish on Wes Matthews now as I was pre-injury. The history of guys his age having that injury isn't great. The odds are that he will only come back at 80% or so of the player he was. That's still good, but it's unlikely that his production here would match the kind of contract it would take to get him.

Would love to get him. No team will take Marvin or Lance for pure cap space so we would have to take on a crappy contract like Hawes or Landry to get cap space this off season for one of them but stuck with their salary for a couple of more years.

We could use the stretch provision on Lance if no one will take him. I don't know that we will, but it's an option.
I hope we keep Mo so that might make Brian Roberts expendable solely to create some space.
While unlikely at this point, Kemba could be moved if the right deal becomes available. And you know they want to move on from Marvin in order to create playing time for Noah and Cody.

If they lose LMA, Portland is going to blow it up

This is the one year where one year deals might be able to net you some real talent. Lots of FAs have to be thinking about capitalizing on next year's cap raise.

why would anyone want Matthews coming off a torn achilles anyway? You are signing this guy based off what he was not the player he is right now.

A torn achilles isn't a death sentence or anything.
