bravor wrote:He could have played Batum more at the 3 or even at the 4. This is one flaw i can easily admit in his coaching. But he had poor defensive wings to play besides MKG and Marvin when he was "on".

The whole backcourt was not complementary. Remember that Cho tried to land Butler when he was made available. Any valuable two way sg would raise significantly this team's record (if the rest remains the same, we will see with new coach/roster).
All i am saying is that last two seasons are not a proof of how bad (or good) Clifford is. I think he did his best with what he had, even if he messed up some games (overplaying Kemba and Howard, or benching a guy that was performing for a supposed starter who was sinking the team). But some does not mean a lot. The whole mess during last two years starts and end with players on the court not named Cody or Kemba.

I'd agree with this if Batum actually can guard anyone when he does not engage his efforts... nonetheless, Batum can't guard 2 either way...
Batum is the single biggest disappointment after 15-16 season
Hi Clutchie, I love you... :kiss

Hopefully Mitch completely cleans house in the front office. Team just needs a brand new start. Like an expansion franchise.
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

As far as Clifford goes...I think he's a good coach, just not a good developmental coach. It took a collection of underpaid veterans in 2016 to even build a team that could've maybe made it out of the first round if things had bounced a bit differently. This was, of course, unsustainable; as two of the vets were then overpaid here leaving no room for the other three.

This isn't an uncommon thing for teams to have to deal with, but it was at this point they needed to rely on their young talent and the cupboard was just bare. Now this isn't solely on Cliff, as the team made little effort to keep any pick that fell outside the top 10. But Cliff saw his job as winning the next game, not necessarily building for the future. He often spoke as if development was on the player and his only influence would come through osmosis.

He wasn't here to coddle college sophomores, but to be fair he was essentially put into a win or else situation this year. In that respect, and given his most successful season was on the backs of veteran players, I can see why he felt he should follow suit this year. Without hindsight, I'm not so sure that was the wrong move. The problem was, when this plan didn't bear fruit, his unwillingness to deviate from his initial plan until injuries forced his hand.

So, again, I think he's a good coach, but the current situation just isn't right for him. Hopefully he catches on somewhere though, I think he's a great basketball mind that can really benefit the league as a whole.

I have been impressed with Bennett's work at University of Virginia, but would his coaching style--slow, deliberate, work the ball around, with intense, structured defense--work in the NBA? I doubt that Jay Wright is going anywhere.

Been calling for this for a while. About time our sham of a medical staff gets the boot. IMO they significantly altered the course of MKG's career by bringing him back when they did in 2016.

I'm trying to contain my excitement and stay classy. Or maybe me and Eoghan are currently on a Fear and Loathing style Vegas trip to celebrate.

So, we are still yet to see what Kupchak has up his sleeves in terms of building an actual team, but hes off to a great start with everything else. Overhauling our training and scouting staff was just as needed as a new coaching staff and GM.

I'm in a holding pattern. I am elated with the firing of Clifford but the news of Fizdale seriously oft-puts me. I loathe Fizdale, aka Mark Jackson 2.0. I'd rather keep Clifford than hire Bleeding Gums Murphy.

I'm very optimistic about the house cleaning though. Fire the ball boys too, no one should be exempt.

I don't know much about Fizdale, but your anti-endorsement is enough to get me off the bandwagon.

Everyone is excited when Teams clean house but cleaning house is easy, hiring good people is hard. I will hold my excitement off till then.

I explained it in the coaching thread but it's just a gut feeling. The same gut feeling that let me know Clifford was a terrible coach before basically everybody else.

Oh c'mon, was Fizdale the one who had the Grizz contending even when nobody on the team could shoot?
