He had interviews with some french medias (you know, he spends lot of time in France..) which were suggering he was thinking about it. But as usual, it wass mostly words.
I was also considering it since he did not show for the training camp (yeah, optional, but when you are paid 27M you kinda show your a** , question of respect).
In his last itw here (yesterday) during the nba evening stuff for the finale, he was basically saying he has one year left.

As for the reason i was hoping he would consider moving on, considering what he already 'earned' here and all the stuff this team has been through, basically because of his contract (and the way he 'gave back').
It was also something i wanted to see for a more selfish point of view as we are thin at sf with our national team and i wanted to see if he could find another team (in the nba or in europe) that could restore some of his skillset and energy level. anyway since nba will probably be still going during the olympics at least i will look for better options (Hoard being one of them).

I guess he will serve as an expiring after all.

I legitimately forgot this guy still plays for us. He is that irrelevant.

Nic Batum isn't quite ready to retire and be a family man:

I knew this waste of space was talking rubbish when he said he was considering declining his option. No minutes for him at all - please let him rot in street clothes. The least we can do in return is give him the least chance possible of getting a contract next season.

His days as a starter are done. Can he be a low/mid tier 3&D guy on some contender's bench? I lean yes.

His days as a robber baron will continue for another year. His days of giving a crap about the game of basketball have long since passed.

I don't think he has much love/energy to give an NBA team at this point. Even on a contender I don't see him turning it around.

Batum will take the money somewhere. He's more like a blowout guy though, no real value besides a practice body.

He'll get signed to a vet minimum deal for a contender and barely see the court.

Lmao. I just can't get over that we were so close to being completely rid of him and then MJ was like nah, I think we shall pay him for another three seasons...

I wish NBA GMs valued Batum the way the General Board does. These guys have no idea how much he sucks these days, they've got pictures of Portland Batum dancing in their heads.

woaaw you guys really dont care abt him ! not even a reaction for him being released !! im happy for him that he can get out of this situaton that he created ! From France its really seen as a huge disapoitment, so from Charlotte i cant imagine ! he needs to find something in order to become again an NBA player ! He litterally spent the whole time since season restarted commenting NBA on french shows in France. He's also involved in a top team in France (ASVEL) as a co-GM with Tony Parker so he def needed the money for his team !

He took our money and quit on the team. Didn't show any effort or urgency. We are supposed to be happy about his 2016 stretch where he got us to 48-34? The only redeeming quality he had in his time here?

Dude is toast.

Didnt say you should be happy ! There is absolutely no way to be happy abt anything in this situation ! But he took the money that was on the table. On the french show he talked a few times abt his situation and his answers were always : "i told the whole board ill never be super offenssive, im more a facilitator" so without having any offensive mentality he got lost in nowadays NBA ! Boris Diaw could do that bc of his IQ ! Maybe Charlotte is the team french lazy players need to leave in order to rebound (Boris Diaw with Spurs was a King after being a fat man)

Remi, we've been down this road and it's 100% revisionist history. Nic himself talked about his role changing and him needing to provide more offense back when he came to the team and when he signed the new contract. Yes, we've all seen your posts about his recent discussions with the coaching staff about not changing his game, but that really doesn't have any bearing here. Nic knew was the expectations were when he took the deal and he failed to deliver.

Even slower, and wanting to pass more, last year Nic could have been a great floor general on the second unit if he had just played a bit harder. It wasn't just shooting either. His TRB% and AST% were both down too while TOV% went up so he wasn't grabbing rebounds and was making bad passes a lot more. All of those are independent of minutes played. His actions on the court ended up looking a lot more like he wasn't even trying than it was that he was limited by age or injury.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody
