depending on if there's actually a Hayward S&T, not necessarily implied imo

If he's waived then there's no trade

In don’t think so. I’m pretty sure there is an extended period of time that a team has to wait before signing their own waived players.

It essentially stops teams/players from restructuring contacts or double dipping with 1 team.

Looks like he’s signing with the Clippers as soon as he is waived.

So his stench will loom over our franchise for a few more years. What a treat.

In all seriousness though, what a damn joke.

Cap situation after cutting Batum?

Post#1406 » by BuzzCity » Sun Nov 29, 2020 8:12 pm

I know we needed to clear $9ish mill to sign Hayward...we cleared $18mill given still owing Batum $9mi this year.

I wanna say that was already factoring in the signing of our rookies but maybe just Melo.

Any know how much cap we currently have?

Does it matter anymore? we clearly don't use it properly. I'd rather be hardcapped so we don't hand out any more stupid ass contracts

Probably front load the hell out of Haywards contract.

How we turn a 27M expiring contract which is an asset considering the amount of teams that want space for next season into a negative is beyond me

You absolutely give OKC or NYK a first round pick to eat Batum or Cody Zeller instead of making this move

But instead Mitch is insane enough to think we'll be East finals contenders with this roster and we absolutely had to keep Cody Zeller for our Finals push

Why couldn’t we just pay some tax to get Hayward ? Without waiving batum. And just paying the tax

We didn't have the cap space to sign Hayward. Wasn't an issue with tax

Can only go over the cap to retain your players, not sign new ones

Do we still "Stretch Batum?" IF no what is the saLARY WE ARE WAIVING? If he is going to resign with LAC Do we get anything back for him players or $$$? How about Rosier? LAC wants him why aren't we gtting saomething back? $$$$$ I"M CONFUSED???????????????

We didn't have cap to sign Hayward so we were forced to waive and stretch Batum or find a team to take on his contract. We could not find a team. So we got 2 2nds for creating a TPE for Boston.

We don't get anything back from Batum unless someone claimed him on waivers, which will not happen. Once he clears, he will sign with LAC.

Sometimes the best solution is to do nothing at all. This is one of those situations.

An ACL injury for him would be nice.

I thought the trade to get Batum was a good one. Much like the situation with Kemba when he earned All-NBA, Batum was the beneficiary of the massive cap increase following the new TV deal.

Always was a neat dude, but Batum was never going to live up to that contract. And the Hornets were never going to pay to get rid of it. The decision to waive Batum to acquire Hayward was (and is) opportunity cost.
