T.J. Zanin will leave the Brooklyn Nets for a bigger role with the Charlotte Hornets.

Zanin was had been the Nets' West Coast scout and will become the Hornets' director of college scouting.

Zanin's brother, Frank Zanin, is the Nets' assistant general manager.

His resume is pretty impressive actually:

He was also a scout for the Clippers, 76'ers, and USA Basketball. And before that he was the video coordinator for the Grizzlies.

Interesting. Don't believe we currently had someone in that role.

With our summer league team in the works, this seems a necessary position to have filled.

He was with the 76ers during their period of mediocrity, with the Clippers during their period of suckitude and left once they were good, and then was with the Nets in their period of mediocrity.

Great fit.

I always wonder how people like this get hired?? so you were with the 76ers from 2010 to 2012...and they sucked ass? did something you did lead to a change? nope they didnt listen to you at all? they drafted Evan turner when you wanted Cousins?

Can't wait until we draft someone from the big 10 for the 4th year in a row.

He was with the 76'ers from late 2005 till right after the draft in 2010. In that time period they drafted:

Thabo Sefolosha at 13 in 2006
Thad Young at 12 in 2007
Marreese Speights in 2008 at 16
Jrue Holiday in 2009 at 17
and Evan Turner at 2 in 2010

Not a bad track record when you consider all but one of those picks were late lottery or mid 1st round draft selections.

His brother is the Net's Asst. GM. We're just lining up that Lopez trade.

If we're sending Al out in the process I'm A okay with trading for Brook. I wouldn't give up more than our expiring contracts and the 2nds they owe us back though.

I'm not. They're practically the same player, except Brook has more injury issues to worry about and is on a bigger contract. Al at his best is better than Lopez at his best anyway.

did the Hornets even have a director of college scouting before this move? if so I never heard their name mentioned, and I pay attention to that sort of stuff. either way, I'm glad they seemingly targeted a candidate and brought them on board. if Zanin can lead to common sense draftees like the Sixers ones listed then he'll be earning his keep.
