Eric Collins has been hired to do Hornets play-by-play on SportSouth.

What do we know about this guy?

Collins has done Big East basketball, college football and baseball previously for Fox.

Will be interesting with a three person announcing team, those can be tricky.

who the hell is Eric Collins....i know uncle steve was old and crazy but at least him and Dell seemed to like each other.

After thinking about it, I don't think Dell or Stephanie would be very good at play by play, so I'm glad they're bringing in a third guy. The key will be getting Dell and Stephanie to work well together on air.

I posted a bit more about him in the Stephanie thread, has some experience on the national stage.

Don't know about team crews, but the national broadcasts typically have three (right? think so).

I just remembered that I have been collecting such clips of their dad jokes and Steve's Troy Wroten-like mispronunciations.

Does this board like Steve enough for me to put something together before the season starts? At times it seems like some of the guys here genuinely dislike Steve.

Hell yeah Lamar, I'd love it.

Steve wasn't perfect... far from it in fact, but he did have charm. and he did have a long history of representing the Charlotte NBA team on TV. he's as intertwined with Hornets history as playing Isley Brothers - Shout during 2nd half timeouts. yeah he would seem a bit drunk, and especially in the last few years, he'd get kind of out to sea during certain games, and you could tell Dell would try to reel him in. still, I'll miss hearing his "for THREEEE" calls a little bit. looking forward to a new voice though.

hell yeah. I don't think anybody hates Steve. He could certainly flub up less often, etc but it could've been a lot worse. A lot of announcers show zero emotion over anything the opposing team does and are really monotonous. Steve was pretty good. But it'll be nice having Stephanie and Collins as new voices there. Interested to see how a trio will work.

Collins is very good, actually. He's a lot of fun to listen to and a great addition. Love hearing Ready is getting her shot, too. Should be a fun team. I'm sure Dell and Steph both had a say in who the third person would be, and I'm guessing Collins was able to muster up.

I'm gonna miss Steve, but I'm glad they've put together a very capable broadcast team moving forward.

thats going to be weird, 3 person teams are tricky.
