Will we make the Playoffs?

Post#1 » by Elden Payton » Sun Jan 10, 2016 2:01 am

We are slumping hard and the East is much improved, we are not the only team with injuries...

We are trending down unfortunately.

Can we right the ship?

Top 5 pick

It is going to be tough. Batum and Lin's injuries would impact a lot. If Kemba is injured too, Hornets's season would be over. I am also concerned the coach might have overplayed Kemba in many games. Big guys have bigger consistence issues these days.

Yes, we can still make it. Our bigs are not very good -- may need some trades to improve it.

I should have put in the OP, the big question is what do we do, as we near the midway point of the season?

Should we tank or should we make a trade for another vet?

Over the last 5 seasons or so, I would have loved to have our record as it stands right now...but as is our luck we've improved in the same season as everyone else.

We mortgaged our future this offseason imo and we are eleventh in the East as it stands...

Simmons, Ingram, Dunn, Brown or Rabb would be great for us imo.

I hope Ingram or Brown can play SG though.

Only Utah has dealt with more injuries than us

we're missing 3 starters and our two most important guys off the bench are walking wounded

injuries are a thing. sucks but it happens

All I see is excuses. Every team has had to deal with injuries.

I feel like we pretty much have to make some kind of trade. We have too many weaknesses. Our biggest need is center imo. I like Cody but he isnt going to cut it until he stops playing scared on offense and starts shooting jumpers. We could also use another wing. I still like the idea of Gordon + Ajinca package.

More than anything we need to get healthy. It would be huge if MKG comes back after the all-star break.

Kemba, Batum, MKG, Frank, Cody
lin, Lamb, PJ, Marv, Al/Hawes

That might be good enough but i still feel like we are missing a piece. Id feel alot better about something like

Kemba, Batum, MKG, Frank, Cody
Lin, Gordon, Lamb, Marv, Ajinca

If you have Love and James on your team you can survive missing your PG and SG (who splits his time with JR). Who was the third one? Irving and Shump and thats it right?

And comparing your team to the finalist last season is a reach. In the last years east you guys would be the 7-8th seed. With an improved conference and your injury issues you guys will most likely end up as the 10-11th seed

we will probably finish around 12th, Wizards are currently 12th with a .5 game gap.

2 games out of 8th and about 3.5 games out of 7th

lol...comparing the kings team to anyone else is almost blasphemy. Lebron James could literally play 5v1 and still make it to the playoffs.

to me it depends what comes of our injury situation. If batum and lin get healthy fast enough, we have a shot at securing the final slot. If not then we will sit out, likely in the 9-10th positions

Don't make me bring Coach Mora in here, because I will.

Very unlikely. Brutal injury luck plus the rest of the East being a lot better than expected makes it a long shot unless the team can pull out of this nose dive very soon.

On the question of whether to tank or trade the pick for immediate help, I say neither. I don't consider playing out the string with our current roster as tanking, and I'd prefer we stick with what we have (minor trades are fine, of course) and see which of these guys are worth committing to in the summer and which can be safely cut loose. I have very little confidence that a trade will vault us back into the playoff mix, it would be foolish to trade a lotto pick for a bandaid like that. Even worse if the injuries get more severe (losing Kemba, for example) and we end up squarely in the top 5.

This team is weak up front...they really don't deserve to go to the playoffs and the east is pretty competitive. So no

We are four losses behind the three seed and there is over forty games left in the season so I think it's a bit too early for the tanking calls at this point.
