GT: Hornets vs Wizards Sat Feb 6 7PM EST

Post#1 » by fatlever » Sat Feb 6, 2016 3:55 pm

Back to back home games, that doesnt happen often. We immediately get a chance to make up for the blown game last night. Wall has been on fire lately. He's always been a tough cover for Kemba. I could see MKG taking a turn on Wall if he gets going, otherwise MKG will probably be on Beal when he plays (he is playing, right?). Gortat seems to always bring best against us as well.

The Wizards played last night as well. Wall had a triple-double. They probably had only 5-6 hours to rest. If we can't pull off a W our playoffs hope is pretty much over.

Lin has generally played well against Wall, but I don't think we'll see that match up tonight.

Back-to-back triple-double for Wall?

Lin - come back kid, it's Wall again, licking his chops. (and wounds from Whiteside?)

I think whether Lin can play well tonight or not depends on his minutes and what role is he going to be asked to play.

If he was asked to do a lot of playmaking, then the ball will start moving and the entire team should do well and hopefully we can get a easy win, but if he plays mostly off ball, then it will be hard to tell. Just my personal opinion.

What type of style are the Hornets going to play? If the Wizards beat them at transition, fast-paced offense they'll need to slow it down. Otherwise, the transition game has helped them which is inspired by MKG.

I want to see more creative pairings. I think MKG in the 2nd unit for stretches should happen. Lin and him can do some things together and need the opportunities to just do it. I think Batum/Cody is for real and that can be stressed based on how well Cody can deal with Gortat. We have to know that a team is going to hit 3 pointers against us, last night's game was way out of the ordinary. So that's a concern. And Frank with the first unit needs to be tried more vs. always going to Hawes to replace Cody.

Lamb, Frank even PJ to an extent need comeback games. No concern with Lin, he'll be fine. I don't know about us on the defensive end though vs. Washington. We'll see.

Yeah our playoff hopes are almost over with a loss tonight and it's not even the all star break.

Okay...

Well, we were expected to lose the Cavs game and win the Miami game. Or had a better chance in the Miami game of winning. So, take care of the home floor and do way better on the road. At least we haven't totally collapsed like the Knicks or Orlando. We still have a chance. But time to get over and stay over .500 and don't drop any further than the 9. But we need to make a run. And a bunch of road games are ahead in coming weeks.

It seems like every time we won, so did most other teams in our conference. We never gained any ground. We need to start winning our winnable games and win some of the difficult ones.

we have been around 2-3 games back from the playoffs for a month.

we need to start having some w streaks if we want to get in.

We have also been decimated by injuries for that month. Not saying we are going on a streak, but at least I'm finally starting to feel hopeful it could happen. At the worst even if they don't make the playoffs, it should give a better idea of how everyone plays together and the direction this team should go during the off season (Assuming everyone avoids a long term injury).

+1
Need to do that now when we're "healthy". You'll never know when the injury bugs will bite again.

Meanwhile, the Cavs lost in a tight game to the Celts, who has been sizzling of late.

Meh, last night IND, ORL, NYK, MIL and CHI all lost. Agree we need to start some win streaks though.

I wonder if sometimes when an unheralded player beats you, it's because--as some were putting it the other night--the coaches were "sleeping" on him. So there is not enough preparation for that player, he gets on a roll, and before you know it, he's burning the nets.

When that happens, a lot depends on attention to detail on the defensive side, something that is lacking with this young team. They do not have the experience to recover from an unexpected threat.

Not to beat a horse to death, but if Dudley is beating you, the coach needs to put Hansbrough on him, and not let him put up a triple number like Whiteside did last night. He does not match up well with Gortat, however.

Er...we didn't win last night. So we didn't gain any ground.
