The 2016 NBA Trade Deadline Thread

With the deadline less than 3 days from now, I figured we could have a general discussion/rumors thread for the Hornets and around the league. Obviously any Hornets acquisitions will get their own thread, but this will serve as a catch-all for now.

For those that may need it, here are some of the top names to follow for breaking news/trades:

@WojVerticalNBA
@SpearsNBAYahoo
@ShamsCharania
@ESPNSteinLine
@sam_amick
@ramonashelburne

Even our own @rick_bonnell - though he has blocked me - sorta kinda broke that we would obtain Lamb, so he may be worth a follow.

Another guy worth following, former NBA executive @BobbyMarks42, has been doing a team-by-team "guide to the deadline" series with Charlotte still upcoming. He also just released a "Front-Office Insider" report for deadline week: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/front-office-insider--trade-deadline-week-172233202.html

Basically just some info on how trades come to fruition and the protocol for getting them confirmed by the deadline, number of teams with trade exceptions, teams in the luxury tax, etc. Of note for the Hornets was his "FREE AGENT ON TEAMS’ JULY WISH LISTS" section, of which only one player was mentioned.
Nicolas Batum
Once you get past All-Stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant, Batum, 27, is the best free-agent wing on the board. The versatile Batum, who was acquired last June from Portland, has had a career year with Charlotte. Forced to play multiple positions in the absence of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Batum has found a comfort level with the Hornets.

Batum, who has full Bird rights, will be an unrestricted free agent in July. Although he will have plenty of suitors, the Hornets still have an advantage in offering years and money. Factor in that Charlotte has been able to in-house recruit Batum this season, instead of depending on a two-hour meeting in July, and the Hornets certainly have an advantage.

My hope is for a shooter, an upgrade over YMCA PJ (McLemore is on the block) and a defense-minded center upgrade over Cody to help absorb the loss of MKG's rebounding, perimeter defense and moxie (Heat are gauging interest in Whiteside). I think McLemore would be a savvy buy-low and Whiteside would be a smart audition to see if he fits in with his hometown team.

Kemba
McLemore
Batum
Kaminsky
Whiteside

Lin
Lamb
Batum
Zeller
Hawes

Orlando has made Oladipo and Harris available.

Biggest Hornets-related rumor thus far comes from @QCHSpencer of Queen City Hoops, who has reported that "the team is definitely serious about Dwight" (Howard). That's about the extent of that rumor, though.

Honestly, I'm pretty skeptical about this particular guy's "sources," as he's spent most of his time this week trying to put it out there that he "broke" the "exclusive" report on MKG. To be fair, he did break the news, but that could've just been obtained through deduction.

We'll see, this team is notorious for being tight-lipped about trades, and we always seem to do SOMETHING around the deadline.

Dwight makes sense and both Lin and Clifford could provide valuable input about his makeup. But man, I don't see why the Heat and Rockets don't just swap centers. I suppose it could be a challenge to get the salaries match without decimating the Heat's roster. They have too much tied up in too few.

I'd be interested in Harris.

Agreed on the wing suggestions, especially Harris. With MKG out and Batum spending most of his time at the 2, we just can't afford to start PJ and still expect to make the playoffs.

I don't think we can afford Harris on that contract.

What do you guys think the deal is? The GMs just feeling each other out or asking prices are just too high? When do you predict the first domino (Overall) to fall?

I don't want Harris. He shoots threes, but doesn't make them, attempts to defend but isn't that good. To me, he's an extremely expensive SF/PF version of Jeremy Lamb.

If the team can turn Al into Harris they have to do it IMHO. I just suspect that Orlando is going to want a lot more than an expiring and a pick.

Not Hornets-related but, hey, trade rumors!

@MikeAScotto
Sources: Detroit Pistons have discussed a deal to acquire Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova.

@sam_amick
Pistons & Magic are progressing on deal that would send Tobias Harris to Detroit & Brandon Jennings/Ersan Ilyasova to Orlando, I'm told. The talks were reported by @MikeAScotto. Nothing done, but seeming likely at this point.

And it's done.

@Chris_Broussard
Source: Orlando trades Tobias Harris to Detroit for Brandon Jennings @ Ersan Ilyasova

Can't say I understand this for Orlando.

LOL Orlando. It's nice having them in our division, makes us not look so bad.

So Skiles screws up Harris both times he's had him and trades him for Jennings and Ilyasova who he happened to screw up with in Milwaukee. Good times.

im not close to a harris fan, but that is pretty bad for orlando unless they wanted to get rid of his contract.

I wonder if there are any picks involved in that trade to even things up.
