Just keep the band together and leave $30m open for next summer for the miracle scenario. Other than replacing Al and the end of bench guys for more defense and shooting, I'm perfectly happy retaining the same roster. If we let Al, Hansbrough, Jorge, and Harrison go for a defensive center and three specialist scrubs, and retain Nic, Marv, Troy, Lee, and Lin, that's my ideal offseason.
I'm excited.

How are we retaining Lin without losing Lee or Marv?

$10M for Marv, $7M for each of Lin and Lee, a couple million for Troy puts us right around the cap including Nic's cap hold, then we max out Nic with bird rights. I can't see Lin coming this cheap and I think Marvin and Lee will both cost a bit more than this, but this is my ideal scenario. We would realistically need to move Hawes and/or Lamb in order to retain Lin. Unfortunately I think it would take our 1st just to move Hawes and I don't think Lamb has much value to any other team right now after how his season fizzled out.

Obviously everything is up in the air right now, and I am not saying this is the only outcome that I believe in. However, I think this is a super realistic formula and equals a better team then last year.
Step 1- Agree to pay Batum the Max
Step 2- Let Al, CLee, and Marvin walk
Step 3- Give Lin a multi- year deal. Something like 3/24, most offers will be short term he gets.
Step 4-- Sign Joakim Noah to 2/24, Batum can recruit him and he can be the starter.
Step 5- Give Jon Leuer the MLE
Step 6- Draft a wing at 22 Bembry or Prince/ Draft a stretch 4 with purchased second Bentil or Robert Carter
Step 7- Give Troy a 2/6 and promote Aaron Harrison to 3rd PG
Cap wise, Start with 45 million in salary + Batum 20 million cap hold, + Lin 8 million+ Noah at 12= 85 million
85 million + Draft picks and signing Troy should put us right at the Cap, then use the MLE to sign Leuer and finish paper work with Batum.
Style wise- We have a ton of talented guards and wings that give us both depth and ability to play small and fast. Noah is the perfect 5 man as he can help facilitate the offense, would be our best rebounder and give us a lot of defensive toughness we lacked. Zeller would be our first big off the bench, and he would be one of the best backup centers in the league. Our weakest position would be the 4, but we have guys who can shoot it and space the floor and it gives us minutes to play with if we want to go small with MKG or Batum at the 4. We would have a really solid starting 5 and one of the best benches in the league with Lin, Lamb and Zeller. Also, with Bembry, Bentil and Harrison that gives us some guys to bounce back and forth to the DLeague to help get them more NBA ready and compete at the same time.
Final Product something like this with minute allocation included.
1- Kemba (36)- Lin (12)- Harrison
2- Batum (24)- Lin (12)- Lamb (12)- Troy Daniels
3- MKG (30)- Batum (12)- Bembry (6)
4- Frank (30)- Leuer (12)- MKG (6)- Ben Bentil
5- Noah (26)- Cody (22)- Hawes
Also, with Lin, Bembry, Hawes and Noah we would have the coolest hairstyles in the NBA

I like the concept of Noah but I trust his health even less than say Dwight Howard .
Ultimately this off season is going to be messy because the guys are UFA, a lot of the decision is out of our hands but in their own decision (guys like Lin / Lee / Marvin could easily take lower offers to play for a contender. They're pretty much all seen as the type of vets contenders want, flexible with real contribution and professional with good character. ) and what the market offers.
You have to choose between Lee / Marvin / Lin for sure, at best you might keep 2 of them most likely outcome is only 1. odds of Al coming back is really low unless he takes a massive pay cut.
There will be plans, but ultimately one has to go in assuming that things may not go according to plan, you better have a plan B and C and D and E and F .
It's going to be a really wild ride from draft night to late July.

If we sign Lin with cap space than our MLE is $2M. We won't get Leuer or any other decent, rotation worthy PF for that.

"If Barnes determines he would like to have a chance to be a more featured part of an offense, the Warriors would likely honor that — especially if a sign-and-trade deal could be worked out. A deal involving fellow free agent Nicolas Batum of the Hornets (Barnes played college basketball at North Carolina) has been rumored, but of course nothing along those lines has actually been discussed."

Why would we S&T Batum? What value could GSW contribute that would offset the lack of fit?

A lot of fans of other teams are going to be really disappointed when Batum signs with us.

My favorites are the Thunder fans that don't realize that Durant's enormous cap hold is gonna prohibit them from signing basically anyone, let alone Batum.

a Nic for Barnes sign&trade would be weird.
I dont want Nic at a max, but i really dont want Barnes at a max.

It would be a great way to really troll us all.
1. Cho sign's Batum for the max, board explodes with pockets of rage at the slight overpay.
2. A few hours later Cho flips Batum for Barnes, situation is even worse than previously imagined, the meltdown is complete.
3. Cho:

The meltdown when we traded for Batum was crazy.

If Batum is gone, Lin would become quite a bit more important.

Speaking of Lin, his last deal with 8M/yr, not counting this tour with the Hornets, and with the cap increase, there is no reason for him to take anything less than that. The other reports of 10 - 12 sounds about right. This is the reason of having the 2nd yr as the plaer's option and opting out.
This means that, I think, the Hornets should pick up Batum as soon as possible and then Marvin and Lee.

A reminder that Lin fans had zero clue what Lin wanted 12 months ago.

Fair enough, even Lin had no clue where he was going 12 months ago. Both Lin and his fans thought he was going to Mavs; a cut and dried deal so he was stuck in China when it fell apart and had to scramble to find a CHA/Cho who would accept his 1st yr opt-out demand.
If you believe another DeAndre Jordan/Mark Cuban/Deron Williams disaster is going to befall Lin again this free agency, you are free to believe.
NBA shortened moratorium to prevent another DeAndre, Lin will be back in America prior to commencement of free agency and finally Lin's reputation has been rebuilt after his Lakers season - but you're right, a fiasco could happen again.

Lin could go anywhere or do anything. Fans that claim they have some insider scoop on Lin are misguided IMO. Fans that say there's no chance he resigns with Charlotte also are as I don't believe in talking in such absolutes.

Batum talked of keeping most of the same guys. Which guys do you think he'd want to see back most? Big FAs we already know are Marv, Lin, Lee and Al.
