this is how i would rank these teams.

1-Spurs, its the Spurs.
2-Orlando, Vogel
3-Dallas, he has played there before and he will start
4-Portland, can compete for starting job and get lots of money
5-Minnesota, will backup but Minnesota should be a contender soon.
6-Charlotte, compete for starting job but doesn't have money
7-Wizards, wont start and might have money

I would put us in third. He would fill a need here and be in a position to win. Manny and Portland are a bit up in the air. Dallas has no idea what they are going to be. Now if he isn't chasing a chance to get into the playoffs then that changes things as money is limited.

He's honestly what we need. I would love to have him, but I agree I don't think we can offer him enough.

We need a paint protector. We win the Heat series if we have anyone that can help defend and rebound in the paint.

Was 14th for centers in adjusted Reb%, Frank was our best at like 32.

Mahinmi also allowed 34.5 DFG% at the rim. The lowest in the league for any center that played 20+ minutes. We had two of the worst 8 in Al and Frank.

I don't think we can get him, but he would be a wonderful situational big man to put our shooters around and defend the paint in close games.

Mahinmi is ideal but Aldrich is not that far behind. Our bench would be so much better with Zeller or Aldrich there in place of Al.

Indiana was insane to let him go and replace him with Al.

any one of those teams can sell him on making the playoffs.

Minny has KAT, Pekovic and Dieng so I'm not sure he'd want to join that logjam for minutes.

I'll be honest: I'm not that high on Mahinmi. That said, I trust your eye and evaluation of talent so that makes me feel a little better about him.

I like Mahinmi too. I'd probably pencil him in as a starter too.

Wiz and Minny both missed last year so there is that. Portland made it but as a bit of a surprise and Dallas is a mess because they keep missing on everything they try to do. We are a more stable option that he could see he fills a need on because with him we likely make the second round and might have taken Toronto out as well.

Thanks, Slam.

He's obviously not my first choice, and he has his limitations. Just with everything last year and watching us against the Heat, we need a guy like him. It's kind of why I was OK if we did go after Howard and got a decent team deal. He's not gonna fill up the stat chart for you and get a lot of buckets, but even as an above average center at the things we desperately need, its a huge leap for us because of how bad we were.

He' was also 13th in PnR PPP last year for guys who did it over a fifth of the time they were on the court. For a team that had no spacing, and worse passers than us that is pretty good. He's not a guy you have to run plays for, which we really don't need at that position.

But if you can run him out there with good passers, decision makers, and shooters on offense (which I believe we have) then he can be effective on rolling to the rim and back cuts.

I could just be blinded because I think we really need a guy like him and even a slightly above average guy is a major upgrade for us at the type of things we need to make the next step.

With Batum to Mahinmi, we'd have the French Connection.

Wouldn't be opposed to Mahinmi - would be nice to have a fairly legit defensive presence down low.

Have no idea what $$ it would require, but I'd prefer Ian at much lower salary to Marv at a ridiculous overpay. At some point we have to run with Frank at the 4. Mahinmi would be a solid 5 to pair with Cody.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
